You forgot to mention how the infectious curse reduces the CMC of all other curses making those late game curses come out faster

I love the synergy between Infectious Curse and the rest of your curses, allowing you to spend less mana to get your curses rolling. I'm surprised you didn't mention this, as I thought it would be key to casting the expensive curses.

I made this deck a few days ago, and I'm loving it. I've already taken 2 tournaments with it, especially easy since agro is the meta in my area. I recommend adding authority of the consuls and open the armory. It helps tutor for the curses you need and slows down those hasty bastards. Kambal in the side board is good, but I rarely use him since I tend to board wipe a lot.

This deck reminds me a lot of the mono black deck I played during Scars block. Painful Quandary was a beating after enough turns, and the aristocrats and later extort she'll around it game you the pressure to stay alive in the meantime.

Played a sealed Amonkhet league at my local store and ran three Trespasser's Curse for the first few weeks. I was shocked how conservative it forced my opponents to be when I got one out by turn three. Let alone two. Token generators got switched off and made my opponents timid as they tried to play around black removal spells. (I actually had very little in the deck.) I LOVE THIS DECK TECH

Love this deck and might just have to try it out with a few twists. What I would love to see is some Mill ideas for standard. I have been working on some builds and it seems that U/W are the colors to go for, but I would love to see what you could come up with!

Nice, I knew almost nothing about standard, but traded some cards for what I thought might be a viable, fun deck...mono-black curses plus torment of hailfire. I won my first match against mill, then lost 3 matches (but won a couple of games at least). This video has given me some better ideas to try out, though I will be staying mono-black (using filigree familiar in place of renewed faith and discard instead of cast out) for budget purposes. Thanks for the inspiration! :)

What would you recommend as a replacement for a couple trespasser's curse copies if your local meta is super control heavy so no one has many creatures?

Where on the board do you place "enchant player" cards? Are they on the battlefield? Are they affected by cards that affect the battlefield? How do you get rid of these from the board otherwise? Searched everywhere, no one has the answer

I mostly play Limited and Vintage (yeah...I kinda love both ends of the spectrum and nothing in-between lol) Occasionally play some Modern or Legacy but never really been a big fan of Standard. Especially the recent past didn't seem fun. But DAMN this deck looks SWEET!! Good job and thanks for sharing!

Losing life early can be problematic against really fast decks, but it is certainly worth considering. I am going to run 1 Anguished 2 Cast Out myself.

Anguished Unmaking is certainly worth sideboard consideration, but in early testing we couldn't afford to lose 3 life against a variety of decks. Ended up not being able to cast it specifically due to the life-loss.

Scarab God commander please I have a list going but I want to see your take! Basically, put in a single copy of most curses except the cheap ones, 4 copies of curse of misfortunes and the witch. Put in cheap cmc good card for control until you get your cheap ping curses and misfortunes on the board and hang on until the curses get stacked for free each turn on your opponent. You can sprinkle red for curse of pierce heart with the black pingers. And some curse of the cabal to put on some more pressure and maybe temporal extortion to go from 4 to 5 cmc or as another extortion card.

How does Overwhelming Splendor stop cards like Torrential Gearhulk? O.o Its' ability isn't an activated one or is it? I don't understand.

ThorsShadow it makes them lose all abilities, triggered or activated. Torrential Gearhulk will be a 6 mana flash 1/1 which is useless late game.

I suppose Splendor would simply make the gearhulk a 1/1 but I agree its ability is triggered/ETB not activated so splendor won't stop the player from nabbing something amazing.

ThorsShadow it comes into play with no abilities so it's etb doesn't exist it's the first line of text creatures are 1/1s with no abilities that includes etb

Jesse Falke he probably doesn't play it causes how much mana he wants. Evolving wilds just takes a land right out the deck and that's not what the high mana curve wants you to be doing

I would certainly be running Wilds over Sanctuary. I am not sure why he isn't already, but the thinning is very minimal and not a valid reason. I know myself, ill be running Evolving Wilds instead.

Make a esper god pharoahs gift deck. I built one and went 3-1 with it, it's super janky and fun and not many people expect it. Running cards like champion of wits striped riverwinder and peace of mind to dump creatures early game then win by reanimating tons of stuff with god pharoahs gift scarab god and anointed procession

I'm not really playing in standard but are there really 4 blocks in standard(Innistrad, zendikar, kaladesh and amonkhet)? That seems like a lot of blocks in standard :P

Scrapbasket This is accurate, but keep in mind that both the Zendikar and Innistrad blocks will rotate when Ixilan is released in a few months. (Also, they're all standard legal because players complained about quicker rotation, making WOTC leave Zendikar in Standard for longer than they originally intended.)

Yes it is a lot of blocks. We're in a sort of unprecedented standard environment where we're running around with 8 entire sets, each with their own heavily pushed strategies and mechanics. Come Ixalan release, we'll be losing BOTH Zendikar and Innistrad to rotation. Because that makes sense.

I feel like I would rather have card draw over Renewed Faith. I personally will try out energy theme with Aether Hub, Live Fast, and Die Young.We have the problem of not being able to recover from enchantment hate sadly, so maybe perpetual timepiece or splashing green for Wildest Dreams dunno. I have this shell built already but using Zendikar Retreats over Curses.

I'm not sure about "instead", every land you fetch is a land drop you're more likely to miss later. With a high average CMC, it might make sense to hit more land drops late game... my suggestion is to split the difference and run 2 of each

Yeah, I'm not really sure about the math here. There's probably a mathematically optimal answer to the question but I'd probably go with playtesting the deck a lot to see what works.

Giving you the numbers is possible, but is too lengthy for me to try to do right now. I assure you that the "thinning effect" is minimal in such small amounts. If you somehow cracked all 4 Wilds then you have a lightly better argument.

I think Remorseless Punishment is better choice over Cruel Reality. The opponent gets to choose, but you double the pressure.

Dennis Christofer I was wondering the same myself. Grasp could be replaced with Sandblast from Hour, not quite as good but still viable removal. Nixilis could be replaced with Liliana or Gideon of the Trials. The one that hurts the most to lose I think is Accursed Witch, still looking for a viable replacement

I suggest using Die Young over Grasp and likely Live Fast over Renewed Faith. I have been playing a deck very similar to this build and this is what I will do when I try it this deck. Nixilis can find easy replacements IMO. Any good old B/W walker with removal smacked into it works (Gideon of the Trials won't.) Accursed Witch... well, I would probably add in more card draw if we don't get anything good in Ixalan. I wouldn't worry too much about it. There is a good probability we see something that can take its spot in Ixalan block and if not, I am sure it isn't crucial to the deck's plan. I saw it been mentioned in the comments and I agree, it wouldn't be a really bad idea to splash blue for counters, especially against control, so maybe that can take those spots.

Tempest and a Computer mine have a few differences. I use 2 cataclysmic gearhulks and a play set of cartouche and trial of ambition. As for how it works, it's been pretty hit or miss haha. Sometimes it's control-y enough and sometimes I just get ran over haha

morkroth When it refers to "enchanted player" it literally means the player, not his creatures. For example, he can now not use Cycling. The creatures are still losing all abilities as it is a different line of text, the 2 clauses are not related.

I'd say tier 2 for standard. There are way too many aggro decks in the format to make a strategy like this sustainable, it would work ok against midrange since you'd be ok doing 1-for-1.
