I don't play standard, but this does look seriously fun. It's more or less what I want to do in Commander, but in Esper. Could you imagine versions of this deck going Esper for the sake of cards like Scarab God?

I play a blue/red version of God-Pharoah's Gift. Having access to Cathartic reunion, Glorybringer, and one of the best targets for the gift is combat celebrant. Chaining together the Celebrant's exert ability and getting a bunch of 4/4s with haste is super powerful. Also as Wedge pointed out Abrade is a nightmare card and so just straight up playing red gives you access to arguably the best removal spell in standard.

I was super hyped for this deck and initially agreed with the blue white color combo but I now play this deck in the jeskai variant and instead of using angel of invention, I run aven wind guide. The wind guide for one has won me countless games where the evasion and the increased number of available blockers changes the tide of the games in a turn or less. The jeskai variant is imo better as insolent neonate is INSANE in this deck. And not to mention combat celebrant is absolutely disgusting for your opponent to have to deal with. I also found that combustible gearhulk in this deck is super necessary as it's a first strike creature that either gives you card advantage or does a massive amount of damage to your opponent and puts eternalize targets in your yard. I also LOVE having a lot of cycles such as striped riverwinder and curator of mysteries as these cards are fine reanimation targets and also fill up your grave yard on turns 1-3 while allowing you to draw into your gate to the afterlife. I've seen the variants of this deck with refurbish and I personally don't like it though I see why it's in the deck list. I also feel that a 2 of hollowed one is alright in the deck I run but in this decklist specifically it would be bad. I hadn't seen any list with the 1 drop energy dude that mils. Contingency plan in this deck is also bonkers. Love that card it makes the probability of cracking a gate to the afterlife on turn 4 way more realistic

What about Toolcraft Exemplar rather than Thraben Inspector? It doesn't give a Clue, but it makes the deck a little more rotation proof and will usually be a 6/5 during combat after being hit by the Gift.

You know what? I like this. This is the kind of UW deck I can get behind. No silly antics of control where your opponent just as to sit there and do nothing while you tell them "no", just a unique strategy that could only be pulled off in these colors. I wish more WU Modern decks were like this, frankly. In fact, I wish that decks that just told you 'no, you don't get the play magic, you just get to sit there and do nothing' would go out of style in favor of more creative and unique strategies. Sadly, I feel if someone were to try and make this into a modern deck, it'd get bogged down wit more control aspects and lose part of what makes this deck so good in the first place.

Golnax play testing this deck modern would actually just add better one drops and sideboard more control to combat certain decks honestly. Control cards would slow it down and make you a worse control deck so it's better to optimize the strategy than add another aspect

My BG Rot Farm deck was great at milling yourself and putting things from you library in graveyard. All so that you could easily play it from the graveyard a lot easier from the deck. This, though, is wicked, too

Watched this deck roll over a bunch of decks last night (including mono-red when it drew all it's 1 drops) and due to the timing on God-Pharaoh's Gift this deck can play around the Crook and Scavenger Grounds. Impressive deck.

i only started playing magic after the release of amonkhet and loved the idea of mill decks really liked cycling as well, made a drake haven and faith of the devoted deck and a black and blue deck with god pharoahs gift, but since the release of HOU loads of people are running crook of condemnation in there sideboard and completely destroys self mill decks with graveyard interactions

There's only two problems I see with this deck. It has no targeted removal (yes catclysmic can board clear, but your opponent chooses what they sacrifice, not you) and that crook of condemnation exists. Crook is an artifact and can literally be in any deck's sideboard. I play 3 in all my sideboards because of delirium/reanimation strategies. Once it gets rolling it is unbeatable, but not sure it has the legs to beat a single crook of condemnation or scavenger land.

Would you mind revisiting UB mill in Modern? I saw your video from a year ago and i took out 4 cards, 3 of the blue black spells that search till you find a land, and one crypt incursion and threw in 4 frayed sanity. i also took out the Hide land. Now its essentially a burn deck that's FASTER than burn. Ive killed affinity, burn, and soul sisters so far with out losing a match. Turn one Jace's Phantasm into a Glimpse the unthinkable left me with a turn 2 5/5 flyer. An opponents turn Archive trap into a jaces flyer left me with a turn 1 5/5 flyer. So this deck can kill with damage AND milling.

Oh and a lockdown kill with frayed sanity, mesmeric orb, and ensnaring bridge. Im also considering adding white to it for stoney silence to negate not only affinity but that pesky artifact (i forget its name) that shuffles graveyards back into libraries. Thoughts? (i love modern)

I cut mausoleum wanderer and thraben inspector for the red gear hulk and the discard 2 and draw 3 for 1 and red. It is a little more all in but I have gotten hate to the afterlife out on turn 4 around 80% of the time, and without artifact removal that is basically the game.

There can be iterations down the road but the deck only plays 7 cards in the mainboard that will rotate out when ixalan releases (mausoleum wanderer and thraben inspector)

here is the thing, the 1 drops are there to save damage. Honestly if you don't get an early god-pharoph's gift out you are in trouble. That is why Cat gearhulk and Angle are so huge. board ish wipes and more importantly a 6/6 haste flying vig lifelink will do work against mono red. Most of the time angle should be a 6/6 because of "hour of devastation". The thing with abrade is that it only destroys artifacts, refurbish and Gate to the afterlife can get it from the graveyard into play. So abrade only buys time.

you don't get the cast trigger if you reanimate it, and it doesn't have lifelink or vigilance. it is a win-more card that won't save you, while the angel can get you back into the game by immediately gaining you 6 life and, being ready to block and gain another 6 life.

I've been looking into this a bit. Toolcraft exemplar and slither blade look like they could be promising substitutes for thraben inspector and mausoleum wanderer. Obviously theyre not perfect 1 to 1 exchanges but they're both one drops that synergize with the deck which i figure will be close enough. Even thriving turtle has some merit to take advantage of the energy effects present in the list though i think the previous two are almost always better options. However i think splashing into a potential third color (likely red) would be the best bet as a general strategy in order to broaden your options giving access to cathartic reunion, abrade, and combustible gearhulk to fill in the rotation holes particularly in the sideboard.

I run an home made esper version of this deck and at fnm 3/4 games my opponents dropped crook against me and I still won, it's easy to play around

Christian, your comment is foolish. if this deck becomes a tier-1 thing, then people will have sideboard bullets for it, and crook being an artifact that can be cast by any deck makes it a good sideboard contender. That said, i'm not sure it actually does fold to crook. if they wipe your graveyard, then you just mill more cards and keep going.

abrade doesn't exile though, so you have 8 ways to get it back on the field. Does it hurt yes, but not as much as hitting a torrential gear hulk in R/U, or hitting a Heat of Kiran in vehicles. It is a great card, but not as good as you might think.
