I still cannot afford it, but when I first saw the Giger box I thought, "Man that's a nice box! It's got to cost at least $300". Its $150 price tag amazes me, and that told me that Leifkicker is not a greedy company. They could've easily made it $500 and still interest many (not sponsored).

H.R Giger is The Dude who designed the aliens from Alien originally... so the design suits the name very well. It looks very much like parts of the "cavepaintings" they find on the ship(s) in that franchise.

The box isn't, dare I say it, "sexual" enough to be a Giger Box in my mind. Maybe that's a design choice. Probably is, but I wouldn't call it a Giger Box when you remove one of the primary concepts behind the art. Also, his art tends to be monochromatic, which that box definitely isn't.

The Leifkicker managed to avoid criticism. No mention of the security of the lid? Would you trust it to drop off your shelf? No mention of the seemingly frustrating interior? You'll have to dump the cards out, and it looks pretty tight in there. I like that you're still doing these. Products just keep coming out!
@curbynet7 жыл бұрын
The benefit of the Arkhive is that for a tightly-packed card library, you can individually remove specific decks via the generous finger "scallops," similar to 4:55 in this video. The Dex Protection supreme one row doesn't allow for easy access to cards when the box is stuffed to the gills. On the other hand, the problem with the Arkhive FOR ME is that it is sized for boxes and not for cards. I'd want to put decks (just sleeved cards with dividers) in the Arkhive, and that ends up with wasted space as the box was originally intended to hold deck boxes.

Excellent review as always Professor, and for the irritated / unsure people commenting in the comments: As the name "Geiger" originates from the German word for "violinist" , I can assure you (speaking German as my first language) that the Professor's pronunciation of the name was perfectly correct. ;)

There are other deck boxes out there, that aren't the main stream brands. For example, Wyrmwood Gaming makes deck boxes, and their Sentinel box is a deck box + dice storage. These are solid wood deck boxes with a strap and snap closer, to make it very secure. But, because they are solid wood, and has to be made one at a time, the price reflects that, with the starting price of $50 and going up to over $300, depending on the type of wood used (some are rarer woods, thus more expensive, and different colors) and whether you want the regular deck box or the Sentinel deck box. $50 for a single deck box is a bit much, but offers a lot in deck protection and with a snap closure, it won't easily open up and spill your cards all over. I personally use the Pro-Deck Box by Ultra Pro. It's cheap and effective, the lid on it secures my cards easily enough, and not a hassle, and is fairly cheap. I do recognize the utility and craftsmanship put into the Deck Boxes by Wyrmwood, hence this shout out to them. Wyrmwood Gaming also makes products for another Wizards of the Coast game, called Dungeons and Dragons. As long as you feel good with your deck box, that is all that matters.

One use for the Supreme One Row that I can see is what I like to call the "modern lineup". Many of my friends have the entire library of their modern cards in the same sleeves and in one box and simply assemble an individual deck from them depending on what they want to play. I feel like this or the Archive would be a good resource to store that, along with a cube.

I would like to mention that the awkward deckboxes from ultra pro (the normal sized ones, don't know about the 100+) will not open when shaking it upside down, where the ultimate guard one will spill your cards all over the place. So yeah you have to work a little harder to get your cards out, but they won't spill as easily.

Awesome reviews as always Professor! But I want to say, I have a few criticisms about including premium custom deckboxes from Leifkicker and Wyrmwood in the same video as mass produced products. I understand the want to promote artistry in the MtG community, and I'm not saying they don't have a place on the channel, but maybe in their own video? It doesn't fit into a video review of mass produced items, because they quite honestly can't be compared fairly, as you say in the last minute of the review on it. It's a luxury item for players who want to really spend a lot of money to give their prized deck a unique flair. I believe separating the value reviews from the luxury reviews is a good idea. Simply because they're not comparable to eachother. I still love watching these reviews! They're the best quality reviews of these items on youtube! Keep it up.

I would like a deck box that will not just simply store but transform with the cards still inside. I feel like the traditional box loses it's usefulness when the cards are immediately taken out, it remains an empty box with no other function. why not have the box split in half to house the literal library of the cards and the other house the graveyard. If designed well enough it will streamline active behaviors like picking up decks, drawing cards and toppling prevention. Would that be useful?
