Hi Dev, today, for the 1st time, I tried one of your decks(this one) w/ proxys(since I'm missing 2 Torrential Gearhulks and the 4 cards that are dropped at sorcery speed), and I must say I had some pretty nutts results! I beat a Modern (but 4Fun) deck and I totally crushed an R/G Energy deck, and most important, it was really fun! Thanks for this deck, I thought Control would die w/ this new Set but it seems to be viable! Keep up the good work

Great video! I actually played this deck the 1st 2 weeks of Aether Revolt, using Mechanized Production with Clues. It was very fun but it falls behind to aggro which is everywhere right now. Engulf the Shore is probably the best card next to Gearhulk in the deck. Like I said, I had a lot of fun but it wasn't competitive because when you get behind, you get REALLY behind. Again, great video! Just wanted to give my real experience with the deck. I ended up going U/B and won my last F&M

I've been running a similar decklist recently and I'm glad you've noticed the strength of Disperse in the current Meta. Bouncing someone's Heart of Kiran on its first activation is great. Another thing I've tried that I find is fairly effective is Aetherworks Marvel in the Sideboard. Much like Dynavolt Tower it's great in Control mirrors. It turns counter wars in your favor since you can either spin and hit Gearhulk or any other counterspell in your deck. I've been using the Flash Blocker that generates energy and the flying energy bounce whale instead of Aether Meltdown and Sphinx, but I'll try out both and see how it goes. Meltdown seems like it's better. I prefer running an entire playset of Baral while cutting one Engulf and one other counterspells though. It can convince Aggro decks to keep a removal spell in their deck post-board and slows them down either way. Another thing to mention is that this deck can easily be converted to splash other colors by including 4 Aether Hubs and Manlands for either red or Green or just the Hubs for a light splash. That's not too important now since no other colors have Instants that demand splashing for, but it could become useful in the future.

Yo Dev, wassup. The reason Disallow is $10 is because Commander. Literally every deck I'm playing against right now in Commander league, even decks that don't focus on counters, is running Disallow. It's just basically the best answer to Combo in Commander, making it a high priority card for the Commander crowd.

I made this deck a few weeks ago, first one from this channel. Beats most budget - mid range budget decks which is ok. Took it to FNM and got smashed by all the $400+ Metalwork colossi, G/B Counters, and BU Also running torrential gearhulk. *Did not run dynavolt sideboard but doubt it would have made any difference, especially against metalwork colossus where engulf the shores did not affect it.

Played against this on xmage yesterday, though that version used Dynavolt Tower and Rise from the Tides in the main (I assume in place of some counters/removal) which seemed stronger. Relying on the hulk as the only wincon doesn't seem like enough.

I dig this deck man. Control decks 4lyfe. The only thing I don't like is Revolutionary Rebuff, because if you draw it even in the mid-game it feels more often than not to just act like a way to make a person tap 2 more mana that they weren't going to use anyway.

It's great early, but it's terrible when topdecked. One redeeming factor is that it gives us something to safely discard to Baral late. Still, the main reason it's there is because we need all the early help we can get. A turn 2 Scrounger or Voltaic brawler can put us at like 12 before we get a chance to deal with it, so cheap counters are a necessary evil

I hear ya, I just in general groan any time I draw that card late. It's the ultimate feelsbad. Also, Revolutionary Rebuff doesn't work on Scrounger because it's an artifact, but we'll just pretend you said "Winding Constrictor". :D

As much as I love blue I don't like mono blue because I prefer to kill things if they hit the battlefield rather than bounce and counter them. I made UB control deck for about $100 by subbing sphinx of the final word for gearhulks and by not using liliana or kalitas. I think it's pretty good but I guess game day will be the judge of that

It's still Sorcery speed... I like it, but it doesn't fit in the idea of a pure control deck... The other creature that I like with so many instants and sorceries is Docent of Perfection ... it's expensive (in terms of mana), but you could have an army of flying wizards attacking if you get to turn 8 or 9...

Just play 4x Disallow. It's the single best counterspell in standard. Zombies are on the rise and delirium's on the low. Void Shatter's pro is outweighted by its con of being colorless. There are no excuses to play the budget counterspell.

Lots of card draw means you get the hulks and required land into hand easily enough, get them on the field with free counterspell or removal, then keep them there with the rest of the counterspells and removal. They do become very difficult for your opponent to deal with...I find it especially fun to watch my opponents hopes and dreams die when I flash back a counterspell with one when they try to cast a Verdurous gearhulk:)

i think I would play unsubstantiate in this deck. bad remand tacked on to a creature bounce is actually fine in standard. and if you have an active baral it's a strictly better unsummon.

disperse feels really really bad. All it does is let you lose a bit slower. When your best case scenario is to bounce and counter something you need to reevaluate the card.

Blue doesn't have strong removal, your best option when something could resolve would be to bounce it. The ideal plan is nothing ever resolves, but you know something will go through. From all the target standard legal single-target bounce spells in blue, disperse is the best option... it can bounce a planeswalker, artifact, enchantment... I once enjoyed a lot letting a Liliana +1 on nothing for several turns and when she was ready to ultimate, I dispersed her during their upkeep... not only a big waste of time for my opponent, but he spent 3 mana that turn just to cast her again and I didn't worry much, as my plan to deal with that second Lili was to just do the same again...
