I've been testing the combo in a slower deck, instead using BBE + cavern of souls in addition to violent outburst and throes of chaos + boseiju. With the cascade spells uncounterable, trickery cant fizzle when it hits trickery again. the win chance is bananas. Throes also protects against discard since it has retrace. It is definitely slower without most of the the fast mana, but more reliable when it goes off, which is almost guaranteed by turn 3 or 4
@rickliao72593 жыл бұрын
You’re onto something. However, this deck does not need throes of chaos. It needs bloodbraid elf and possibly captured sunlight. Also, it would perform better if omniscience was swapped out for volcanic offering.
@cuckdestroyer37333 жыл бұрын
@@rickliao7259 homie, what do you think BBE stands for? also offering is not modern legal? and where does 4 life matter vs being able to turn lands into emrakuls with retrace?
@rickliao72593 жыл бұрын
@@cuckdestroyer3733 Sorry, my brain wasn’t working. The best storm payoffs are volcanic awakening, ignite memories, and empty the warrens because of their high cmcs. Throes of Chaos is not a good choice because it is hard to reach 4 mana when Pillar of the Paruns is part of the mana base.
@pellew18703 жыл бұрын
@@rickliao7259 ive been running a red green manabase, so pillar is not necessary. You could add black for demonic dread, but what do you do if the opponent doesn't play creatures? Plus you fizzle if they play removal on your target. Twelve cascade spells (4x BBE, 4x outburst, 4x throes) seem fine. Another benefit: if BBE or throes cascades into outburst, you have two targets on the stack. So if trickery hits trickery, you dont fizzle immediately. The mana base could be improved with canopy lands, so that opens up a splash color, but no idea what to add. Every additional card impacts your win chance once you combo off, hence why i removed the SSGs and chancelors

I got strong hypergenesis vibes from this deck. The fact that you can put t1/t2 wins with it relatively easy makes it so that even the natural bad matchup (control with counters/discard) is manageable, while everything else is just stomped. I guess they will just ban trickery in modern and let people fiddle with ugin and what not in standard/historic/pioneer. I think what I didn’t consider the first time is how easy it is just to cast another cascade spell and try again. Yeah, if you had 1 spin, like say living end usually does (with only 6 cascade spells), it would be incredibly risky to not reliably win when it goes off. With trickery, however, you can reliably spin 2-4 times trying until to get an Eldrazi. That’s really good.

@@MagicAids it is really weird that people are even asking for it in standard or historic. I really don't give a shit what happens in standard. But historic is where I can play right now, so I'd really like to see that become closer to legacy over time. They already fucked up slowly turning historic into pioneer with their first historic anthology. As you have put it wizard's loves smoking crack. I usually phrase it as wotc is the luckiest company in the world, they continue to succeed in spite of their own best efforts to fail. There is no good on ramp to eternal formats (and yes I use the term to include non-rotating formats). It is weird because this was a topic they thought about, at least tangentially, back in the early 2000s with the starter/expert lines. Where they divided the game into newbies and experienced players. They also did this with the creation of type 2 and type 1.5. As a sort of on ramp or at least a place where you could keep playing your cards. But at some point they got greedy for the short term. They have a severe problem with burning players after standard rotation. What happens when Vorinclex ($39.48 according to mtgggoldfish right now) rotates out of standard. This card you paid ~40 bucks for is now worth $5 or less basically overnight. We can look at any mythic or rare that doesn't get picked up into an eternal format as a staple, like Chandra, Awakened Inferno for instance. This card spiked out to nearly $50 at its peak, would have been hard to touch for under $15 dollars at any point while it was in standard and is now ~$4. This is great to sell packs, but if they focused on customer retention they could absolutely be selling cards to people who play these older formats as evidenced by all of the card shops and secondary retailers that exist. Anyway, I could go on, but I'm just rambling. I wish wotc would consider a new model that helps facilitate their game over longer time scales instead of lucking into it, thanks for coming to my ted talk.
