At 24:00 (not 100% sure if intended) but I think Richard made a both brilliant and really manipulative play here. Both he and Tomer were considered as target for attack by Phil. So Richard made a bad attack against Tomer, losing some creatures and in the end even increasing Tomers life total. Because of that, the Etali attack went to Tomer. I never considered weakening yourself on purpose to avoid being the target, and also not sure how I feel about it. But a very smart play nonetheless.

There's quite a number of $0.15 sweepers. Using the o:"destroy all" query on scryfall, sorted for ascending price, you'll find there's actually quite a number of them at or below that price-point that slot neatly into different decks with different upsides. It's so much more interesting than shoving the 3 same design-mistake staple wipes into every deck.

Fell the Mighty got to show off its versatility in the game (combos well with mirror entity even), I think Time Wipe is excellent for bounce or voltron, Night of the Doctor has great recursion potential, Devastating Mastery has political potential. In nonwhite wipes, Structural Assault is wildly underrated, Nipton Lottery is fantastic in a sac deck and fun outside of one, Decree of Pain is still goated and is $0.25, and Nevinyrral's Disk remains crazy underrated for how easy it is to recur. If you crank the budget up to $.50 even more unlock, and each is like a puzzle to maximize. Sunblast Angel in a deck that wants to tap opponents' creatures (or that specializes in vigilance for its own) becomes a one-sided wipe on a stick. Building a deck that Hour of Revelation won't backfire on or that Path of Peril has genuine modality with is really rewarding.
@tyronium69502 күн бұрын
Even better, you can use otag:sweeper to get a larger pool of sweepers that you don't get with "destroy all". For example, things that say "destroy each", things that mass exile, or things that mass bounce.

There are so many good cards these days that so long as you are a savvy deckbuilder, you are actually only giving up small percentages of wins even with very tight budgets. So funny story I was reminded of regarding the Llanowar Elves - my buddy was hosting a Duel Commander "tournament" at his house. I'm playing my game, and I hear someone say, "Oh that's really cool! I've never seen a white-border Snapcaster Mage." And the player who cast it was, like, "Yea, I ordered it off of ebay." I go over that, and I'm like, "They never printed Snapcaster in white-border; they stopped printing anything in white-border since Ninth Edition." This was pre-Mystery Boosters 2. Apparently it was a trend for a while to erase the black border to make the card look more unique, so the card is basically just "altered."

This was fun, and it definitely inspired me to whip up a dimir deck based on my old Dimir Intrigue precon from the the first Ravnica set. But, after grabbing a Mirko, Obsessive Theorist precon (arguably the most "true-to-OG-Dimir" deck these days), I was thinking another "budget" restriction could be fun if you each choose a precon that you could currently buy for about $50+/-$5 and add $15+/-$5 in upgrades. If an enfranchised player invited a new player and that new player joined a pod of other new players, I imagine this is what it could look like (the enfranchised players pointed them to some online resources like MTGGoldfish upgrades or Command Zone upgrades, or even TCC upgrades). You could even buy a precon and 3 of any current booster packs + 1 collector booster. I've done this recently with a new player- you can use the precon's boosters (if any) plus the assorted boosters to attempt to bolster your new deck on screen followed by a "pickup" game with adjusted deck.

Toner suffering from success. Probably the only one in the group who actively builds and understands how to get great synergy out of budget decks. Gets seen as the threat because his deck is “doing the thing” when there’s literally a lethal Etali on the board. I get that life total wise Tomer was ahead basically all game but….. commander damage exist and you’re literally playing against the poison Etali so idk why they focused Tomer so much. I get that he was getting the most value with his board state but honestly I would’ve leveraged that to help myself deal with Etali. Yes Tomer had an engine that could lead to him getting too far ahead but it isn’t fast enough to warrant focusing him down so early. Idk. Maybe I’m the idiot, but I would’ve tried to politic a bit more rather than just slow Tomer down and ignore Phils Etali for a turn or two. The enemy of your enemy is your friend and when two players are much further ahead then the others in my experience it’s usually beneficial to make them fight each other if possible. Tomer doesn’t want to die to Poison, Phil doesn’t want to get outpaced by Tomers engine, have them deal with each other and then clean up whoever is weakest idk. Then after killing Phil it literally just became a 2v1. So boring seeing Richard and Seth always buddying up. Instead of trading out Phil, Tomer and Crim all the time. Let’s see a game without the Richard and Seth in the same pod so they can’t buddy up the whole game like they do every other game they play. Literally just bounce free value and safe attacks off each other all the time and never really offer the same kind of deals or reprieve to the other players. Still a good game and honestly MUCH preferred to the normal decks. It’s refreshing to see them have to build decks like normal people would instead of jamming the monetary value equal to some people’s weeks pay in land bases into every deck. “I don’t understand why you’d ever run more than 4 basics”. BECAUSE I AM POOR RICHARD THAT IS WHY!

@ I feel like you missed the part where I said maybe I’m the idiot. I’m not saying ignore the lifegain player who is also burning you but I still feel like the amount of focus Tomer received early on and then right at the end was a bit excessive.

I never had a rubber band phase. I always protected my cards. My decks were a mish mash of random sleeves however. Nice rainbow deck.

On this week of "Punt or Bluff?" I'm sorry I spilled coffee while you were sleeving your deck.... Will Tomer's basement-musty draft chaff score a win or will Seth's dog-chewed trade-binder hold the key to victory? Tune-in to find out!

Reminds me of playing my rubber banded unsleeved decks with unlimited duals and other shit like that on the highschool floor, lol.

I noticed they kept adjusting their decks over and over and over (I watch at work without sound). Thought to myself, "should make a drinking game where you take a drink every time they adjust their deck". Then continued to watch them adjust their deck another 100x this episode. This would 100% kill somebody.
