The problem with MTH is not the locomotives it is the electronics needed to operate them and the lack of support from MTH for their known issues with Proto Sound 1 and 2.

THe MTH batteries are NOT 9 volts. They are 8.4 Volts and a standard 9V will blow out the board. I learned this the hard way. replace them with ONLY the MTH battery or the capacitor made for them.
