It wasn't just women. Jewish men could fight and have a fatality in a synagogue arguing over rules. If you remember, Jesus of Nazareth had to get violent to get rid of their money lending practices.

Jefferson, Payne and Franklin all identified as 'Deists'. Which in the social context they existed, was as close as you would safely come to saying you were an Atheist. They liked some of the moral teachings in the Bible - but rejected the supernatural elements. But there are moral codes that predate Judaism by thousands of years, that make all of the same stipulations. The Golden Rule for example originates independently in Babylonian, Egyptian, Levantine, Indian cultures - you'll find it anywhere there is a written tradition. If you want to run a cohesive society - you have to set some basic ground-rules. Saying a nation is founded on "Christian values" is absolute nonsense. These values (don't murder - don't steal) emerge from a basic necessity to function.

Before you can understand "Christian Values," you need to define them. WHOSE "Christian Values?" The Christian Values of The Catholic Church are very different from the "Christian Values" of, say, the Church of God in Christ. The Evangelical Lutherans do not exactly see eye to eye with the Missouri Synod. There are vast differences between Presbyterianism and The Jehovah's Witnesses. The Seventh Day Baptists are not the same as the Seventh Day Adventists. The Coptics are not the same as the Roman Catholics. The Ukraininan Catholics are not the same as the Russian Orthodox, who are not the same as the Greek Orthodox. Or the Syriac. Or the Abyssinians. Or the Chaldeans. Or the Armenians. Or the Anglicans. Or the Episcopalians. Or the Methodists. Or the African Methodist Episcopalians. Or the Puritans. Or the Dutch Reformed. Or the Church of England. Or the Church of Scotland. Or the Irish Catholics. Or the Italian Catholics. American Catholics do not have the same "Christian Values" as the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops. How many of these "Christian Values" people REALLY subscribe to "Blessed are the poor," or "Blessed are the meek." Or, how about, "Turn the other cheek." Or, when some homeless person asks for a dollar, do they give him a stone? There's a lot of people yapping about "Christian Values," but they haven't actually read The Sermon on the Mount for a long time, and seem to have forgotten what is says. I hear a lot of these "Christian Values" people howling about illegal immigrants, but Jesus said, "Whatsoever you do to the least of these my brethren, you have done it unto me." Jesus was heavily criticized by the "traditional values" set in His day for "eating with sinners." They are called Denominations. Religions have different gods. Denominations in Christianity are people of the same religion who disagree enough to worship God in different churches. A group of people who acknowledge part of the trinity but not all three are not Christians either. They are Catholics or Jews etc. Some Catholics are Christians but not all. For a Christian denomination to fight with another Christian denomination is wrong. Christians are supposed to be united.

@@janmay7961 nuance in reporting is important. The media on both sides like to take a varying degree of ideas and paint them with a broad brush. Wilson here, is not like the flag baring southern pastors that he constantly gets compared with. It’s easier to paint someone I disagree with as Fred Phelps so people unaware will agree with my version of the events and hate the person I want them to hate. Wilson, like all people, has a past chalk full of mistakes… many of which, he has owned up too in the public square. Unlike others. It’s clear here that they have a single message that they want to convey, which is fine but it only a small picture of what Wilson actually thinks and believes, if he is to be believed by what he says and has written.

Why do you believe? How did animals come along before plants? How did the Earth have empty oceans or even exist before the Sun was created? There has not been a global flood on this planet. How much better would the world be if Christians, Jews, and Muslims were not fighting? Is the bible the only source of morality? Are the 2.2 billion Christians in the world the majority? There are about 5.1 billion people ages 15-64. Are the vast majority of people in the world that are not Christians not moral? Even animals have empathy.
