In Moscow, Idaho, the fight between Church and State is taking a new turn, as residents there engage in a “cold civil war” over Christ Church - a “muscular, masculine led vision of Christianity” that seeks to turn Moscow into a “Christian town.” NBC News correspondent Anne Thompson traveled to Idaho for Meet the Press Reports.

Why did the original group of people come from Europe to America? For religious freedom... Not to force others to their belief just freedom. To say it is the one true religion is ridiculous and ignorant. I will not be forced to take your religion or ignorant views. Nothing based on science or otherwise. @D Sullivan The laws of your town must have a foundation of SOMETHING. What will you ground them on? How will you determine right from wrong? If you base them purely on man's law, then you have a functionally atheistic town-a town where God is not in charge, and has no practical relevance to what goes on there. If you base them on the Bible, then you have a Christian town-meaning God is recognized as Lord over this town, not that everyone there has to be a Christian. If you ground those laws on the Koran, then you have a muslim town. In other words, you can't have a neutral grounding; they will be based on something.

I know people who are not Christian and do 10x the works I have but do not believe in Jesus existence let alone His willing sacrifice on the cross for all sin. To ask "who is more Christian?" in those scenarios is not applicable because in both those and this situation... one believes in the biblical teachings of the trinity and the divinity of Jesus and the other does not. Both cannot be true so only one is a true Christian. Also, demons believe in Jesus and they aren't Christians so we can't just say a belief in Jesus makes someone a Christian. I don't say this to be Christian and we would probably agree Christians (myself included) need to show the love of Christ better and more often, but let that not become something to boast about or to measure one's value since we only boast in Christ and not of our own works or ability.

I love how NBC takes all these quotes from Wilson and practically yells at the viewer “These are scare quotes! Be afraid of this kind of thinking! Isn’t this man just awful?!” Meanwhile Biblical Christians all over the country with some of the most happy, fulfilling, and human-flourishing-promoting marriages and churches see the quotes and go “Yeah… and that’s bad, why?” But of course, it is to be expected that NBC would misunderstand and misrepresent a belief system they simply refuse to even try to understand. Produces at NBC, if you read this; Jesus Christ is Lord over all His creation and He commands every man, woman, and child to repent and believe the Gospel. That in includes you and everyone in your company and everyone you release content to. Standing in open rebellion against God is sinful and you will stand before a thrice holy God one day and account for every single act of rebellion and sin you committed. I hope and pray that you trust in the atoning work of Christ and His imputed righteousness alone for your salvation, by faith alone, through Grace alone, all for God’s glory alone because if not then you will face the wrath of God for an eternity.

@CmRoddy
@CmRoddy Жыл бұрын
@@bvw3153 Friend, you are misunderstanding what folks like Douglas Wilson mean on this subject. No one is advocating for a system where pastors or priests rule within the government to establish some kind of state church or ecclesiastical state council. When Wilson says “All of Christ for all of Life,” he means that all spheres of life are under the Lordship of Christ; the family government, church ecclesiology, local government, state government, federal government, etc. As I said above, it’s Christ or chaos. What Wilson is advocating is a nation whose laws are founded on the principles of God’s revelation to us, as He had spoken clearly and authoritatively through the Scriptures. Only the Christian worldview can bring about a society where the innocent are protected, the poor are taken care of, and the wicked are punished. But if you reject the idea of a nation placing importance on the lordship of Christ in all things, what kind of system would you put in place that isn’t just as religious in nature? The question isn’t whether or not one founds their laws and principles upon a religious framework, but rather which religious framework you use to plant your feet. You may think or immediately say “we don’t advocate for any religion,” but the reality is that you would have to promote a specific worldview and thus you’ll have to account for the presuppositions and assumptions that lay as the foundation of that worldview. Whether you intend it or not, this worldview very much acts as a religious framework, because that worldview dictates things like morality, ethics, and principles that lead to specific laws as good and condemns other actions as bad.

My marriage began more than 50 years ago, so patriarchy is a norm to me. That doesn't exclude a female dominant family as a choice. No partnership gets anywhere if authority isn't delegated before controversy arises. If every decision were a tied vote, there is no decision. Imagine a tandem bicycle. You decide who controls the front handlebars on any given day or for any given event. What kind of car we will buy or where we vacation. My husband has a good working knowledge if vehicles, so he gets that last word. We alternate decision years for where to vacation, and this is my year. Suppose the kids are stuck in public school, because we can't decide which private school is best. Now, the kids will suffer from an inadequate education because WE can't decide. The patriarchy system says, when you havent delegated authority and you can't work out a compromise, Dad gets the last word. He has the responsibility of considering my desires and the children's needs.

Yet billions of people don't live this way. In your mind, none of them are able to get anything done in cases where they don't see eye to eye? Haha what a breathtaking moron you are.

As a Christian, while I don’t agree with his goal of achieving a Christian town through politics (Jesus never called for that, but rather to spread the gospel and preach repentance of sin) I find it absolutely hilarious that they would interview a ‘pastor’ from a Unitarian ‘church’. These people in no way could be called Christian (which of course means Christ follower). They do not follow Jesus actual teaching, but rather pick a couple nice sounding things to support their agenda, while ignoring the bulk of what he taught. Laughable.

in response to your first point, read the great commision again. thats just one example. Psalm 2 is another. you may ultimately disagree still but I would at least listen to the general equity theonomist case from one before passing judgement. its not some novel idea, it actually is quite historical.

But what is a Christian town? Idaho tends to be very LDS, like neighboring Utah. But, my parents used to live in Idaho. Being a non-Mormon is tough. Being Catholic in the rural South is tough, because Christianity is very evangelical. Being Protestant, whether Mainline or Evangelical, in Chicago is tough, because the city is predominantly Catholic. I had a pastor who explained how the United Methodist Church got on the bad side of Mayor Richard J. Daley. UMC churches were getting written up for phantom building code violations, and the bishop of the Northern Illinois Conference was not invited to ecumenical events held by the Mayor. Yet, Mayor Daley was considered a good Catholic.
