I understand that the contrast no longer needs to be changed (the default value of 75 is perfect), but a lot of people still seem to be confused on the matter of using one of the default color presets (Standard, FPS, Creator in sRGB mode, etc.) and whether or not Console Mode or STM should be enabled. I sort of agree, even a 38" ultrawide 1440p OLED would be nice - but no one has anything remotely in this size range. There is a massive gap between 34" and 42" OLEDs

Great news, though as a current Radeon user, it's a bit disappointing to hear about the discrepancy between the two brands. I'm going to install it asap. That said, the other main system I use on this monitor is the PS5. I wonder if it exhibits the same behaviour relative to Nvidia cards as well.

I got the DWF a week ago and updated to the latest firmware, (M3B104) and the screen randomly turns black. This happens independent of which cables, ports, or computers I tested. I called Dell, and they offered to RMA the monitor. It seems to be fairly widespread and I'm surprised more reviewers haven't mentioned it. Maybe it's a QA issue, but it's really disappointing since the other aspects of the monitor are so good. But thought I'd call it out for other perspective buyers.

Honestly I am thinking of selling my AW3423DW. I use my PC all day for everything and I do not AAA game much at all. I love OLED but the games I play now are HUD heavy or have no option to get rid of it. Like Satisfactory, CIV, PoE etc. Also games that you put a ton of hours into. Seriously I love the thing and its blacks but I feel I will just burn it in on the games I now play. Devs need to start making games with OLEDs in mind and put dynamic HUDs in. Health only appears when you are in combat or not at full ( SoT has this ), and everything else can either be customised or you can press a button and turn it on/off when you need it. Like the Skyrim mod Immersive HUD. Its really not hard to implement at all and I don't need screen clutter 24/7 anyway.

Yes, you're rught. On RTings they tested a lot of tv sets and began testing this monitor. For all tv sets after around 2000 hours there are more or less signs of burn-in.

"Developers should compromise UX because some part of users chose to use a still flawed technology." This is a slippery slope on top of the already slippery slope of dumbing down and hiding - pardon me, streamlining - everything. We live in the age of the largest personal screens, and yet it's getting harder and harder to get robust UI because it's not "pretty"... and now because it will spend the precious lifetime of an expensive device you can't afford to replace. Awesome.
@lilpain1997 Жыл бұрын
@@overdark33 I dont know if you can read but I literally put games I play now... I still game... Just not a ton of AAA anymore and games that are more or less games where the HUDs are everywhere. I still game. And I got the monitor well before moving on to any of these games.
@lilpain1997 Жыл бұрын
@@Lishtenbird Eh? Its not hard to give people an option for a dynamic HUD or a button to turn it off. Most games really do not need a HUD at all times... Also I can replace it... You really think I would of got the thing if I couldn't afford it? You people are fucking stupid. Also there are actually a nice amount of games that allow you turn the HUD off like DOOM 2016, Eternal, Hogwarts ( Although Dynamic would be better here ) Lies of P demo and more. I just think that some devs go way to overboard on HUD elements and offer no customisation of it at all. its not hard to allow the user to hide or make it appear with a button.

I'm finding this with Windows 11, Nvidia RTX 3080, this firmware, Console mode on, source tone mapping off: if I use the peak 1000 HDR mode, the brightness of the screen seems to change depending on what's on screen. I have a dark bg IDE, and if it is covering a small part of the screen, it looks very dark, but if I make it full screen, it becomes a lighter gray. This does not happen with the true black HDR mode - it looks the same luminance whatever the window size is.
@Superdazzu26 ай бұрын
Use source tone map on or just go to hdr true black 400 which has a less aggressive abl (automatic brightness limiter)

Thanks for the hard work on this one! Thanks to your last video, I knew within seconds of installing the new firmware and seeing that swapping between True Black and HDR1000 was causing momentary blackout, that this new version was likely to finally address the issue. This firmware really has been a godsend though. Not needing console mode means I can totally simplify my user workflow to swap between bright content consumption and color accurate work. Before, I was in HDR all the time, and would use Dell's App to swap between True Black and HDR1000 depending on what .exe was run. (BTW Dells app enables some terrible hot edge window manager functionality that you can't disable....). Now I can just keep HDR on with HDR1000 for content consumption, then use Win+Alt+B to turn it off and use sRGB Creator for when I'm doing color accurate tasks (or just general desktop use).

Amazing video. Asked a question on a previous AW3423DWF video and here is my answer in a great video format. Not only that but you also answered my 2nd question when it comes to AW3423DWF vs Samsung Oled G8. Unfortunate the price difference between a discounted AW3423DWF and basically no discount G8 OLED is pretty steep. On the deepest discount the DWF is 284 Euro cheaper than the G8 OLED. I will wait a bit more but if things dont improve price wise I am getting the DWF which also got a 3 year burn in and 0 dead pixel warranty vs the Samsung warranty which is just as a standard commercial warranty. Thanks again for following the update cycle of the product and providing a speedy response!
@Simon_Denmark Жыл бұрын
The difference in price here in Finland just seems to be around 50 €. AW3423DWF seems to be around 1100 € and G8 OLED is 1150 €.
@Sapca1111 Жыл бұрын
@@Simon_Denmark Thanks for your input. Today I can buy the AW3423DWF for 925,20 EUR or 999 USD which is the cheapest price it has ever been available here or the Samsung OLED G8 which is not discounted and is sold currently for 1191 EURO or 1286 USD.

@@Sapca1111 925 € Is quite cheap, I think that I would go with the AW then. Doesn’t the G8 have burn in warranty?
@Sapca1111 Жыл бұрын
@@Simon_Denmark I've asked Samsung representatives in all my country and they could not come with a concrete definitive answer. What I got is, at least for my country is that: "The issues should not occur when using the monitor properly. As long as the usage instructions and available panel care measures are respected as in the support manual I shouldn't worry about this. In case this situation occur, they recommend the user to contact directly a Samsung authorised service in order to request additional investigations." But there is nothing explicit about OLED's as a whole. Nothing explicitly as OLED burn in or zero dead pixel warranty. They will just treat it as a normal monitor. Maybe they can happen maybe they will not. But I do not seem very confident in their response. And other shops said that they are investigating but never received an answer. While the AW3423DWF states and enforces the OLED warranty conditions. Regarding the Samsung OLED G8 Burn in Warranty you will get various replies depending the country you are asking for. From what I understood you should get the premium warranty if you live in NA. But in EU it's iffy and unknown fully.
