This is the one of most emotional and beautiful songs I have ever heard. The feelings of love between daughter and father (and the love of a daughter for her father) shines through so strongly it moves me to tears every time I listen to it, which is frequently. The prescient factor related to September adds another layer of emotion for me, as does hearing Johnny’s older, very moving voice. Thank you Rosanne for writing this song and sharing it with all of us, and for taking your husband’s suggestion and singing this song as a duet with your Dad!! Johnny Cash is missed but remembered in 2021 by all of us who appreciate and cherish his music.

Johnny Cash passed away on September 17th after they recorded this song . His last recording was "Hurt". I wanted my daddy to see the video of Johnny singing Hurt but my daddy passed before I could get it to him. I was raised on Cash and Elvis. My daddy was a self taught guitar player and singer. Had his own bandfor yrs and radio show for awhile. He met Johnny Cash many times because he was his idol. At my daddy's funeral I told everyone that I wanted to listen to Johnny Cash one last time with my daddy. At the graveside service I played loud after speaking and I was the only one out of 5 children to speak. The song I played was "Where you there when they crucified my Lord ". Bless you my friend wherever you are.

That's also my problem. I'm too young. I was seven when he died. But I still remember the first time I saw a concert of him. And I still rememer the reactions of my mum as she saw it.

There's a cross above the baby's bed, A Savior in her dreams. But she was not delivered then, And the baby became me. There's a light inside the darkened room, A footstep on the stair. A door that I forever close, To leave those memories there. So when the shadows link them, Into an evening sun. Well first there's summer, then I'll let you in. September when it comes. I plan to crawl outside these walls, Close my eyes and see. And fall into the heart and arms, Of those who wait for me. I cannot move a mountain now I can no longer run. I cannot be who I was then In a way, I never was. I watch the clouds go sailing I watch the clock and sun. Oh, I watch myself, depending on, September when it comes. So when the shadows link them, And burn away the clouds. They will fly me, like an angel, To a place where I can rest. When this begins, I'll let you know, September when it comes.
