I'd have to get a better look at the fossils to identify everything on the four pieces that you showed us. But, from your video, that last piece, especially on the flip side, the shells that seem divided in the middle are called brachiopods. We collect them in the mountains near me as well. The first piece that you found at your collecting spot looks like it's full of coral, probably horn coral. Also, the thing that looks like a worm on one of your four pieces is a coral, also probably horn coral. Cool stuff. I don't know the fossil formations in your area, but my guess is that they're probably Devonian fossils, 60-420 million years old. I'd have to look at the fossil formation maps of your area to be exact, but it doesn't matter really, because either way, they're from an ancient sea floor. The fossil snail shell and that piece of coral (I think, or maybe a crinoid) in one of your pieces is really cool because they're the actual fossilized material, not just internal or external molds. Great finds of all kinds in this video...how fun! Thanks man.
@coachkevinwilson19582 жыл бұрын
Well, I guess it may matter to scientists or avid fossil collectors, kind of like how you ID your Native American artifacts, for scientific context. It adds to the collection and general knowledge. But, for a private collection, it's the specimen that is important, not so much the details about it, unless you want it to be. I just tried to help ID, and clarify at the same time that I may be off on the geologic time period because I didn't do any research. In other words, take my age guess with a grain of salt, LOL.
@rockscousteau2 жыл бұрын
yea...I am not sure of the age....but it would be a quick lookup. Id say it was life from an ancient shallow sea....probably a few hundred million years old...or something that that effect. I just do not read about any of this kind of stuff at all. I just dont really have the time with all this other madness.
@williambrandondavis68972 жыл бұрын
Looks like stuff from the end of the Paleozoic era that ended an estimated 250 million years ago. The snail shell looking one I believe is actually a nautilus shell. They are little squid like creatures. Several species still exist today. Good stuff!

Yea.....it could be for sure. The thing is this....I metal detect......but just a little. Most of my time I dig arrowheads. So I just dont have the experience with this kind of thing. I think that could be what this is......for sure. I just do not know. Rocks, that iron piece looks too big to be a sinker for fishing. How about a weight for tossing a rope over a tree limb used by timber workers?
@williambrandondavis68972 жыл бұрын
I use railroad plates for weights on my trot lines. They weigh about 50 pounds. You need big weights to trot fish heavy flowing rivers for big cats. A big fish or the current will move the line without the weights and get everything tangled.
@onepunch92032 жыл бұрын
@@williambrandondavis6897 Right on. You're fishing in a heavier weight class than most of us.

nice drill when are u gonna get back to the beaver den there's got to be some more pieces to the puzzle there also how about a clip of all the lures u have found over the years you probably have thousands
@rockscousteau2 жыл бұрын
Well the beaver den is 100% sifted out till another flood. There is nothing left to find there. That is what the sifting does....you get everything laying there. I went 2 or 3 times after I got it sifted down and couldnt even find flakes. I sifted it out that much.
