I respect your position on lure vs snag and drop. I love getting them on a lure too, but to be quite honest, I would take advantage when the fruit is ripe. Less shame than chunking a bunker caught in a net. Thanks for the video

In the recent couple years this time of year you go outside fire island inlet and there are bunker for miles, doing this I couldn't catch a cold if I tried, you sir make it look easy

What sucks about this kind of fishing is that a lot of times the predator fish swallows the treble hook. It's difficult to catch and release a healthy fish this way. Whether it's a short or a keeper the fish can be fatally injured.

I was in Cape May NJ last week, didn’t catch a thing. Found out two days ago that another guy was there fly fishing and caught a 50 pounder.... heart breaker. Lol. Next weekend I’m going back !!! 🙏

Thank you. I will follow your recommendation and stick with an 8 ft Tsunami Airwave Elite rod or maybe go to 5500 and pair it with a 9 ft rod. I'm planning to use it for my 2nd setup for surf fishing (throwing smaller lures SP minnows, kastmasters and etc). I have a 10 ft St. Croix Mojo Surf Rod paired with a Van Staal VM 150 used for bait mostly.

I saw that action, same day aound noon, Southold Town Beach, but had no gear. One school after another, wild stuff. What do i ask for at the bait shop... 2 oz snag hooks? Should see more of this action post Jose, don't you think?

There should be something post-Jose, but in that area the water is staying clean through the blow, so maybe not the bunker thing. Ask for snag hooks at the tackle shop. From your other question, mine is a humminbird helix 5 with gps.

Hey john, I was on a party boat in belmar nj going for stripers when The captain came in the cabin and told everyone that is using a treble hook for snag and drop to take off our anglers clips. He didnt give us a reason and I was wondering what the problem could be? We ended up having a pretty good trip having to switch over to diamond jigs because we went way up north to find fish. They were feeding on sand eels. He did look for bunker for hours with no luck.

Yes, this captain has a very good reputation. He only takes 15- 20 guys out and the boat could easily hold 60. You pay a little extra but it's worth it. I dont mind party boat fishing for fluke but going for stripers shoulder to shoulder with 60 lines in the water is rough. Thanks for the vids they really have helped me catch fish, especially from the shore!

The only success I've had with that kind of action on bunker (ex snagging) was with a 7 inch tsunami shad lure jigged along the bottom

i don't understand your method of snagging and dropping.. you snag the bunker then you just leave it out there snagged till another fish hits the snag bunker??

Yep. You can reel the bunker in and try to re-hook it in a "better" way but in a blitz it's best to just leave it there to swim and let something find it.

In the situation you had I find the Doc Spook working very well. Slow walk the dog in the middle or around the school of bunker.

when you have the bunker snagged and you're just letting it swim do you feel a certain thump of a blue or a striper and how long do you wait before you set the hook

assasin1418 You'll feel the bunker start to swim erratically when it's nervous. Blues will mostly chop them up, bass you'll feel a good thump, then the line will go tight. When the rod feels like it's getting pulled into the water, set the hook. Fun stuff!
