It is interesting that Mufti pics up on the point that so many versus in the Quran suggest that tagwa is not exclusive to muslims. If you take all of these together you will find that iman is a path to tagwa, which is the ultimate objective of the quran. Mufti was spot on with his definition of tagwa, this is the only way it can fit with the whole quran. Furthermore the best trait of a hum is shukur, which is a step up from taqwa. It means being grateful and acting grateful for the blessings that Allah has given us. Therefore someone who has tagwa would never harm or insult another human and someone who is shukur would be careful not to damage the earth at all.

Mufti was right on the topic of Taqwa and here is one of the ayat they didn't mention that proves it: يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ اعْبُدُوا رَبَّكُمُ الَّذِي خَلَقَكُمْ وَالَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَتَّقُونَ - 2:21 "Oh mankind, serve your lord who created you and those before you so that you may become righteous (from the word taqwa)" That ayah is clearly universal and not speaking specifically to Muslims. I don't understand how Rashad Ali couldn't fully appreciate Mufti's perspective.

Excellent discussion, Mufti and Prof. Ali! Many great points. One was that we cannot be held responsible for things which we are not capable of. In that line of thinking, many of us-though Muslim-do not speak Arabic, so if you could remember to define some of the Arabic Fiqh terms you are using in English; otherwise, your target audience of English speakers will not be able to follow some of what you and your esteemed guests say. The Prophet SAWS informed us that he has left us 2 things: The QURAN, and his SUNNAH. His Sunnah is compiled in established Hadiths. When we discard or scoff at the authentic Hadith or the sciences of hadith and it's scholars (classical and present), then we are going down a dangerous path. We cannot follow fiqh alone, as fiqh can change easily if there is no strong base or foundation to refer back to (i.e the established Sunnah from hadiths). We cant reject clear hadiths and start making gangster rap or anal sex halal because it's acceptable for this age..

@Hedoro Hedoes Sunnah is living tradition? So hadiths that were recorded and scrutinised coming from the Prophet himself and were compiled in book form later are nonsense.. Mufti you are brilliant- yes! Of course takwa does not belong to Muslims only - also - it is not the Muslims who, purely by the sake of being Muslim - are the most favored and whose takwa is the best or most special. Why not? Because God does not have “special” or “most favored” peoples. One can not believe that God creates people equally, and yet that there are special religions. God’s Holiness is accessible to all whose purpose is the worship and return to One God. This is such an absurd situation here - where the Muslim prides him or herself on having this “special piety” - yet the feeling of being special is what negates the piety!!!
@monikabenay2196
@monikabenay2196 4 жыл бұрын
Kawaii Treasures that is true if by “Islam” you understand the will to submit to God’s Will - you know, like Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, Aaron, Mariam, Jesus and His companions - all those people were “Muslim” - but not by religion, obviously - but by their will to submit. In that same sense - it has been said - “all people are born Muslim,”, but they need to take on the PURPOSE of Islam, to return to God and know themselves as Muslim. That Islam is NOT the religion of Islam as you know it - but the purpose of submitting to One God of Singular Will, whose Holiness, whose TAKWA, is known in Peace only.
@monikabenay2196
@monikabenay2196 4 жыл бұрын
Kawaii Treasures I am reading the Quran - that is HOW I know that God how described in the Quran - is not God: Allah issues threats, which, as a form of demand - signify Allah’s imperfection. Only those who are imperfect issue demands - and the demand is a sign of lack. In other words - Perfect God does not threat or demand - for Perfection is whole and wholly. Wholly God IS all and everything; demands are signs of imperfection. Also - Allah is portrayed as the devil (the hell torturer whose punishment is by fire), God’s angels are as demons (the guardians of hell) and paradise as a better version of earth - why would I wish to have this as my guidance? Why would I want to worship God who is as devil ? That makes no sense. To return to One God is to obey God’s Law and His authority - and to submit to His Will. Yet - we do not find the guidance of return in the Quran. On the contrary - the Quran only keeps us away from God.
@monikabenay2196
@monikabenay2196 4 жыл бұрын
Kawaii Treasures to submit to the Will of God means to fully accept that God is One - not just numerically- but in ESSENCE, which is a life-giving holiness known only in Peace, and experienced as unification. When we unify - we return to God. We unify by withholding all forms of blame, condemnation and attack. When we fully submit to God’s Will - we will completely cease attack, even smallest notion of anger will find no justification.

Apostasy. This is a big issue with Hadith following. For political n social reasons people for their interests or imposing their views, setting aside Quran n make Hadiths the source of their arguments to fulfill their interests. They glorify hadith reports irrespective of their validity n authenticity as part of Deen of Allaha. Sunnah whole concept is so strongly made a compulsary part of Quran. The whole political social history of muslims is stained with killings torturing n fighting with each other n non Muslims. Basically it was the same tribal psychi which Allaha massage to give up. Later on when Muslim made to blindly accept Sunnah as part of Deen than they promote to live or copy social norms of a time period presented through hadiths. Islamic scholars know if applied asul of Hadith hardly any Hadith fit this criteria, but problem with scholar is they blindly follow some glorified imam or scholar. The clergy institute rather than Quran. Prophet for the same reason did not make a book of his hadiths that his actions may be best in his circumstances but they can not be made parallel to Divine massage of Allah. I don't agree with Rashid that many sunni practices like five namaz، fast etc r just established facts. They r again taken out of selective hadiths n have many variants n misconceptions added into these practices. Hadiths did made taqwa equivalent to abadath n social brotherhood n justice r not the central importance.

Salam What a pity how few Islamic scholars are Rash's calibre and can straddle multiple cultures. To be honest on a humanistic perspective Allahs balance for most humans is based on common sence. A sort of inbuilt balance that maintains human harmony. Even without religion philosophy you know killing a human cannot be morally permissible. We humans are a social creature and we live in communities. Even the basic unit of a family requires empathy, care and consideration for all members of society. You cannot for example kill the wife if she makes a mistake, or permanent damage child if they disobey ir make some mistakes. You family unit will fail. It simple common sence. Humans have individual differences ( size, height, gender, intellect, strength etc) . Using these differences to undermine a human will produce a terrible society that will be bigoted and will not utilise human potential to the benefit of whole society. Defence of self us allowed under extreme danger to the self. It's a simple logical interpretation- why are so many idiots misled so badly- because they do not go to the Quran - the ultimate code of life.
