At its core I understand this to be a love song. At the beginning of the song they talk about all the riches they have, but how they'd give it all away if it meant not losing "you" for even one more day. Later on they talk about how they were dark, but that person made them good. At least that's my interpretation. This was one of the songs we used at my wedding 😊

You gotta look up Maynards battle with himself. His mother was bound to a wheelchair for a long period of time. 10.000 days. But the beauty of it she never lost her faith. He couldn't understand that or fathom it. A Perfect Circle's 1st album reiterates this. The song Judith on that album is the greatest song I've ever heard.

@aaronmueller1560
@aaronmueller1560 11 ай бұрын
As a further explanation of this, a talkbox essentially has the guitar sound traveling through a tube into the guitarist’s mouth/throat. A mic then picks up whatever sound is coming out of the mouth, so the guitarist can form shapes with their mouth to affect the sound and make it sound like the guitar is talking.

I feel this song is an ode the human he has become and strives to be possibly from self convictions and boundaries he’s found to make him most at peace and understanding in this form of life. The wish away part is basically saying he would give away his fame, wealth, and lifestyle, to remain committed to his faith, hope, beliefs, and values he has cemented at the center of his mind, body, but ,upmost, his soul.

It almost sounds like a voice because it is almost a voice. It's called a talkbox. Peter Frampton is famous for using it. Also bon Jovi's guitarist richie Sambora in slippery when wet used it.
@joechurch7
@joechurch7 11 ай бұрын
The earliest incarnation of the talk box was invented by Jazz steel guitarist Alvino Rey in the late 1930's and later adopted by Pete Drake in the 50's. They weren't commercially available until audio wizard Bob Heil made one for Joe Walsh to use on the song rocky Mountain Way. Bob showed it to Peter Frampton and Peter had to have one. The Frampton Comes Alive album brought the device to the mainstream.

I love how Tool lyrics can be interpreted multiple ways. Like a painting, you take from it based on your life experiences. You could say it’s about a man who is wanting to avoid temptations of cheating on his wife with more attractive women (if my eyes should compromise I might as well be done). He is willing to give all of his success away if it means he could be with her.

I believe that it's about an awakening of self and stepping out of the darkness to find value in life and others. Realizing that earthly pleasures are temporary and insignificant in the face of love and honor and that you'd gladly "wish them all away" if keeping them meant losing what was truly important and eternal. "If wants and needs divide me, then I might as well be gone".

I think its about his Wife and the effect she had on his life. I think one meaning is basically he was flying high with Tool, but with that comes temptation and excess, but meeting his wife saved him from that temptation. The Genie thing is likely a joke for the Tool members. Tool have always made stuff up. In the album AEnima the inlay included a listing of "other Albums by Tool" which were not real Albums, and were all silly joke titles and album covers. Also 1 year before releasing Lateralus Tool had a major feature in Kerrang (a metal music magazine) announcing "their new album" and all the song names and album name they quoted in the interview were all a joke and a complete lie. They probably did name it Jambi because of the show, but the lyrics I think are personal to Maynard and about his wife and her basically her causing him to halt all the partying and excess that comes with being a rock star. If you read the lyrics again with this in mind they all make total sense. Cant remember where I heard that but I think it was a quote from Maynard, but I cant remember so that could be BS.
@larrystandridge
@larrystandridge 11 ай бұрын
I really appreciate the way you take care in your study of words and meanings. We currently live in a world without reference or meaning. No one tries to understand anything but what lies on the surface so no one ever see that knowledge is the force that sets you free from the slavery of the ignorance they is pervasive in everything that surrounds us. That noise becomes the thing that comforts us and makes us feel okay but it is the lie that compromises everything we hold to be precious and worth the sacrifice of everything else to just hold the truth for a minute in a world full of lies. The Darkness is the lie we tell ourselves to feel okay about the evil that surrounds us. The truth as Jesus said sets you free because its shines forth with forever and shines on forever and then shines, Basically the truth is what lifts us up from the darkness about to drown us all. That is just the interpretation I feel!

After writing the comment, I saw that you know about the Talk Box... But KZbin won't let me delete the comment for some reason. So instead of deleting it, I'll write my apologies here 😉 As an aside, from what I know, Maynard said that this song is about becoming a father. In my opinion it makes sense, I can hear the story of someone who managed to make his dreams come true and had everything he wanted. But then he understood that the really important thing is this person and he would be willing to give away everything he has just to spend one more day with the one who is the center of his existence. I think it makes sense.

I believe he’s either talking about god or his mom the album is named 10,000 Days dedicated to his mom who died from her disease and don’t quote me on it but she may have had multiple sklerosis? Which is Lou Gehrig’s disease. The song on this album names Wings for Marie 10,000 Days part 2 is dedicated to his mom. The A Perfect Circle’s song Judith is about his mom as well. Though that song isn’t exactly positive like Wings and 10,000 Days part one.

Mugnify Reacts i still think Sweat is the best and most important Tool song. It's the 1st song on Tool's 1st official album, Opiate, because without Sweat, all the tools on the world are useless and futile. It's up to US to DO WORK!!! SWEAT!!!
