Freddie would be the first one to tell you that he did NOT have “backup singers”. Queen was a group of four musicians with Freddie being the frontman and lead vocalist. In fact one interviewer called him the leader of the band and Freddie corrected him immediately. He said he was not the leader, but the lead vocalist. There are a few songs where Brian May or Roger Taylor sings lead. 😊😊😊

Freddie Mercury never called it a tribute to Elvis. All he told BBC Radio One at the time was that he'd written it in the bath in a few minutes.

Live Aid was a huge fund raiser for famine relief in Ethiopia. Lots of big time musicians played at Wembley and in the U.S. billions of people saw it televised all over the world. It was a super big deal and Queen Ruled!

He had a severe throat infection during this performance, his doctors told him not to do it, but he still did anyway. He was in so much pain, but still pushed forward. I know it looks like a lot of beer on the piano, but actually some of it was tea with honey in it to sooth his throat. Even with the infection, you couldn't tell he was in any pain, the only struggle you'll see and that's if this isn't the clipped out ending, is the last note on "world" at the end of we are the champions, just before you he goes to hit that note, you'll see him take two slow breaths in and out. The band was unique, because they never played over one another, Freddie's voice never took over the guitars, the drumming never drowned out Freddie or the guitars, or vice versa, you are able to home in on the one band member you wanted to listen too, sound was always perfectly balanced and bounced off one another. Their chemistry was very unique, they could communicate without speaking. They allowed one another to shine with their own talent, you'll notice a lot of the time, when it's time for Brian's guitar solo, Freddie will walk out of view or get behind him, so that he is not the focus on the stage anymore, but Brian now was, or whoever had a solo at the time, I always respected him for that. Not many donations were coming in, a lot were but not what the benefit expected, until Queen hit the stage, in that 20 minutes, they took in 1.2 million dollars, and it took off from there. I couldn't imagine having to be any band coming in after them, how do you live up to that? All the other artists said Queen stole the show.

I lived in England at the time of this concert. We were so young, my husband was in the Air Force, we lived on one lowly Airman's salary, so we were poor as church mice. We had a very small black and white tv with 4 channels and tinfoil on the antennas. That's where I watched this concert from. Still the best concert ever! I never thought about it then, but I was living in history. We're living in history right now and if you think about it too much you'll get Matrix energy off of it. Lol. But that's sometimes where reactions take me when I watch younger people discovering something amazing that I experienced in real time, that seems impossibly long ago to them and like yesterday for me...

This concert was to raise money for famine relief in Ethiopia. Incredible concert that was broadcast around the world. There was this concert in London and another one going on in Philadelphia and they were switching back and forth between the venues all day long. I remember watching this all day long. Each band was to have a 20 minute slot to do their set. Freddie brings out the energy in the crowd and the crowd brings the energy out in Freddie. That "Cool Guitar" is The Red Special. Brian and his dad built it when Brian was a teen out of junk they had laying around the house. He still uses tht same guitar today, almost exclusively. I love this performance no matter how many times I see it .

Freddie was an incredible frontman. This concert was a moment in history. Broadcast globally, a big deal in the 80s. I watched every moment I could, and loved it. Wish Id been able to go in person, but i was a skint 15 year old :) I have yet to hear a bad Queen song too.

The shortest 20 minutes that rocked the world. 😁 Freddie had a sore throat and his doctor advised him not to perform that night. Freddie really knew how to feed the audiences from his palm of hand. They were a tight bond band, and never tride to stomp each other. Freddie often titled himself the 25% of the band. According to Brian Freddie was damn good on the guitar. Great reaction :) So many of Queen's songs have been used in movies, tv shows and commercials that you're bound to have heard many of them though you may not know they were done by Queen. Crazy Little Thing Called Love was a homage to Elvis. Freddie was a fan and it was written a few years after Elvis's death. Bohemian Rhapsody and We Will Rock you were both abridged for this as all the artists who participated had 20 minutes to perform.

At Live Aid, there were so many acts performing and each act only had 15-20 minutes to do their set. So if you listen closely, when Freddie’s strutting around on the stage, interacting with the crowd, it was the drummer’s job (Roger Taylor) to hit the drums a way of telling him to “wrap it up” lol

Your reactions here are great! Crazy Little Thing Called Love isn't an Elvis song but it's a song Freddie wrote as a tribute to Elvis. So, good ear on hearing Elvis in that song. Queen is the best musical act in the history of any genre of music. A lot of people have heard Queen songs without realizing it was them.

There are no backup singers. That is Brian ( guitarist ) & Roger ( Drummer ) Anytime you listen to queen. You will be hearing Fred, Roger, & Brian. Sometimes with harmonies / backing vocals. Other times singing lead. Roger, & Brian sing lead on at least one song per album.

They never used or needed back up singers. What you are hearing is 4 incredible musicians- they all sang (although John didn’t sing much). To hear Brian listen to him singing his song “Too Much Love Will Kill You”. Freddie sang it too, but Brian’s version is much more intense and personal. Roger singing his song “These Are the Days of Our Lives”. Freddie sang it too- the last video they made before he passed (beautiful and sad- but a must watch when you are ready).

They were playing together for some times. They took this very seriously, they rehearsed a lot for this event. When Freddie moons the audience, it is directed to a former agent whom treat the band very bad. This was a money raising event for famine relief in Ethiopia--watched LIVE by around 1.5 BILLION people around the world. It's reach has never been matched and most of the big music stars of the time performed and they raised millions. In 1992 The Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert for Aids Awareness was seen LIVE around the world by about 1 BILLION people--still the largest ever tribute concert to a musician. Many big music stars of the day were recruited to sing the vocals with Queen but most could not match Freddie's range--they really just demonstrated the vocal talent he had to sing so many diverse types of music so effortlessly.

Loved your reaction, the way you smiled - welcome to Queen - please do more reviews. Queen is the whole band, they are all brilliant musicians, writers and singers - total talent. Brian wrote Radio Gaga for the crowd as a 'you too are part of the band' tribute to the fans. It is also where Lady Gaga got her name. Here in the Uk I would guess we all know the words to every song on the Queens Greatest Hits Albums. We drive to them, clean to them, get married, divorced and even buried - they are amazing and Freddie is missed.

Would you please do Queen - love of my life - Rockin Rio. That will show you how much their fans loved them and Freddie showed the love right back. Keep in mind that in Rio, Brazil, they don't speak English as their first language and Freddie wasn't even sure they could understand anything that he was saying. If you want a history of the band you should watch Bohemian Rhapsody, the movie. The time line in it is not correct but it will give you a feel for what the band was like on their off time and some of the things they went through. And also would you please do Led Zeppelin - Stairway to Heaven, the live version you get much more of the personalities and little additions that you don't get on their studio album. You would do good and get a lot more subscribers if you did a lot of 60's and 70's bands. Those were the times for the baby boomers being teenagers and the boomers are the largest group of people, hence the name boomers. We loved our music and now that we are in the retiring ages we watch a lot of reaction videos to our music and love seeing you young people love it as much as we did when we first heard it 50 years ago. Uncle Freddie Mercury loved making the crowd feel special. When he get the crowd singing it was his way of spending time with his fans and making the crowd feel like a part of the group. Lady Gaga got her name from Radio Gaga. And Vanilla ice tried stealing music to Under pressure without Queen and David Bowie premission for song ice ice baby. Michael was a huge fan of Queen/Freddie, even as early as the mid-to-late 70s (when he was still taking inspiration for his own solo career, which would soon explode, but it hadn't quite happened yet), He'd come to a ton of shows and meet up with them afterwards, so they were friends; he and Freddie even recorded a few songs together that were never really finished at the time but have since been made available. Michael convinced Queen to release "Another One Bites the Dust" when they played it for him - the band didn't really like it, as it was such a different sound for them, but Michael knew it'd be a hit; it came out just a bit before "Billie Jean" (my favorite Michael song!)

In the most current videos copies of Live Aid by them, the ending in cut. I don't know why because earlier years have the full concert by Queen.

Queen and Freddie are awesome! BTW Michael Jackson came after this…..they raised money for Africa in 1984. Live Aid supported Africa…..127M today 2.7M I’m so happy you did this!

They made songs to include the audience queen was a last minute to perform on live aid they smashed it. The audience didn’t know queen was performing so was shocked if you weren’t a queen fan you was after this mini concert.

Four legendary musicians are the legendary band Queen. No separate backup singers. Freddie Mercury, lead singer and piano, guitar, plus The drummer, Roger Taylor sings solo also, the guitarist, Brian May sings solo also, all except John Deacon, bass sing backing as necessary. ..never does he sing solo tho. Every song in this set was written by Queen. All are post HS graduates Freddie has Art School degree-graphics degree, designed Queens logo; Roger BS degree in Biology;John Deacon Masters Degree in Engineering and Brian May has PhD in..Astrophysics I’m thinking. But each one was crazy serious about music and entertaining.

Freddy doesn't have back up singers. Its called Queen. The guy on guitar is Brian May and that's Freddie's thing .. Getting ALL THOSE PEOPLE IN THE PALM OF HIS HAND wasnt the fans. its what he does. Sometimes they sing 1/2 the songs. ANYTHING you wanna know about Freddie or Queen lmk
