A true genuine friend always has your back - both in life and in death. Fantastic words from Mr Ali about Mr Presley, two legends who will never be replaced. Ali also said that Elvis was the nicest man you could ever want to meet. I'm sure Elvis would have said the same about Ali. Elvis was probably looking down smiling on Ali saying "Ali, thanks, man". Ali was the most beautiful boxer and Elvis was the most beautiful entertainer. First, we lost Elvis, then we lost Ali, and now I lost my dad too. Fantastic video you put together Dave! I've seen these clips but love how you put them together. A lot of people don't realize the affection that Ali had in his heart for Elvis. I'm 61, I met Ali as a teenager in a Philadelphia restaurant I was working in. He was with his manager having lunch. He was the nicest, soft spoken, polite person you could ever imagine. He was going to go to North Philly to Joe Frazier's Gym to talk to Joe. They really did not hate each other. Ali did a lot for kids. He had free summer camps to keep them off the streets. He may have run his mouth in the ring but in real life he was kind. I was a brown belt in karate (Kenpo) and he told me to stay in school and try for a college scholarship (which I got). I was just a busboy cleaning tables and he spoke to me like I was... well, better. (He also said he would never let his daughter box because its "a brutal art". Ali, and Elvis were my heroes. I was also writing music, playing guitar.

Great stuff! I remember seeing a few other clips of Ali talking about Elvis. One was about Elvis spending time at Ali’s training camp in the 70s. Another was about a talk show host visiting Ali’s house and overhearing a phone conversation between Ali and Elvis. In that latter segment, Ali just jokingly said “nawhh man, that was some other guy”. Guess Ali just wanted to respect Elvis’ privacy, which I thought was really nice of him.

Though an unpopular opinion, one of the Colonels greatest ideas was to keep Elvis away from interviews and people like Johnny Carson. It would’ve been great for us, in the future, however at the time, it was key for Elvis to remain in the spot light, by ironically staying out of it. Picture Elvis as the Sun. People love the Sun, claim they never not want to see it. But eventually if the Sun overstays it’s welcome and gets taken granted for, people wish for the rain. I’m sure people like Johnny would’ve payed top buck for Elvis to come on his show for even 5 minutes

Once elvis escape to alis training camp just to get some rest and peace from the circus...elvis invited ali to hes hotelroom in vegas gave him hand made robe whit diamonds on ali was so pride... But the robe gave him bad luck in boxing so he keept it outside the ring.. 😁Elvis ask ali to teach him some boxing cause elvis love rough sports... But ali told elvis.. You are to pretty to box... Great collection! I've searched for these videos like you, they're very warm and genuine, many more are out there too... The end speech Ali gave in full is phenomenal and full of love... The story I would love to hear more about is the two weeks ELVIS spent with Ali at his Pennsylvania boxing training camp in the early '70's - can you imagine the conversation? The great Ali...this is one man who loved I used to see his fights on satellite when I was fourteen live I am sixty two now I have a tattoo of Ali on my side still get very upset thinking how lovely man he was...you know its strange because its like we all loved the greatest human being in our lives...Ali God bless you..miss you.
