After hearing about this fight for so long and then finally watching it in full, I can honestly say this is the best fight I've ever seen, even better than Hagler vs. Hearns. Here are two of the greatest warriors to ever live, fighting with everything they possessed until all that was left was sheer will. Arguably the last of the greatest performances of Ali's and Frazier's careers. Also, when Ali said at the end he wanted to retire...it really makes you think what could have been if he'd left the game sooner. Maybe he would have been healthier for longer, maybe he'd still be here. Rest in peace champions.

You think this fight was something , you have got to see the first fight. What's amazing about the second fight and this fight was that both men were still alive , let alone still boxing after the first fight. Frazier come fairly close to dying in the hospital after the the first fight and he was the winner !

In Ali/Frazier I, both men were rushed to the hospital in an ambulance after the fight. What a funny sight of Frazier being carried on a stretcher to the ambulance, and Frazier was smiling and so happy that he won even though his face was swollen. This inspired the opening scene in Rocky II when Rocky and Apollo Creed were both rushed in an ambulance to the hospital.

Before this fight people were saying that these fighters were over the hill, but these two warriors proved them all wrong and saved the best for last.
@BufordTGleason
@BufordTGleason 6 ай бұрын
They were over the hill by that point. Defensive skills had started to erode by that time both of them could not evade the others punches as well as when they fought prior. They could still spot openings and land With authority. But from a purely boxing standpoint, their skills were declining by October 1975 In addition to the beating they gave each other in the fight of the century, Frazier subsequently got bounced around the ring by Forman, while Ali had a war with Norton and then took the title from Forman, letting George exhaust himself by wailing away on his body. After those fights I don’t know how they could not be in decline by 10/75

I was lucky enough to see this classic fight "live" via closed-circuit TV at the Spectrum in Philadelphia! There was no cable tv or pay-per-view back then. You had to buy a ticket and go to someplace that was carrying the fight. The Spectrum held 20,000 people and was sold out! When Frazier did not come out for the 15th round, the shouts of "Ali....Ali" erupted from the majority of the crowd and continued all the way out to the parking lot!!! Great moment!!!

And he was the absolute master of being able to not get hit at all! I was born too late to have seen anything other than recordings of Ali and I've had the Ali vs Tyson debate many times and for me, it's not even a question, Mike would never have caught him! Any Heavyweight would’ve got knocked out cold by Fraziers heavy left hooks but Ali took it like a champ and fought him the whole way… That’s why he’s the greatest not just him in the ring or outside of it… it’s how much he was willing to take to the head and still keep fighting. He never wanted anyone to feel bad for him even when he got old. That’s why he’s my favorite sports athlete in history. He’ll take you to another level you don’t wanna go and keep going cause he’s a CHAMP. The greatest. RIP MUHAMMAD ALI AND JOE FRAZIER ✌️❤️

I always wondered how much the blows he "willingly" took to his body slowed him down. Ali seemed to be amongst the few that gauged wearing the opponent out with direct access to his own mid section. I never heard him describe how well that tradeoff worked for him behind his bravado. He made everyone look like a fool. He entertained millions and befuddled opponents with this calculation. But how much did it help or cost him in a 15 round fight with heavy hitters? I'm guessing that it's one more reason that he truly is the greatest.

This was a fight between two super giants. Ali the maestro and Frazier with a heart of a lion. Ali had to pull out all the tricks in his bags to conquer a train that kept coming at him relentlessly. He had it all by the end, but Frazier could have changed the outcome with one last frantic blow. Ali knew this, and even in the end when everything was going for him, Ali did not leave room for this by not getting too close to Frazier. I have watched this fight five times, but am fascinated by it each time. The three fights between Ali and Frazier will go down in boxing history as perhaps the best that we could ever see. After the fight, Ali said it was the closest he had ever come towards death. Thank you, Ali and Frazier for not only entertaining us with your skills but also showing what heights human courage could rise to. We will always remember both of you for that.

What made this fight so brutal was the conditions. Frazier said it was 110 degrees in the ring under the lights and if you know the Philippines, it was probably 90% humidity. Their gloves were water logged, which contributed to Frazier's eyes closing in the last two rounds. He couldn't see at the end & was defenseless but didn't want to quit. Ali was completely spent & couldn't get off his stool, colapsing to the floor when Eddie Futch threw in the towel. What if he let Frazier continue? Could Ali have come out for the 15th round? Who knows... the drama at the end was the finishing touch on the greatest fight of all time. Both had great will.

These are the fights that took Ali down. Brutal affairs, with both men giving as much as they took. Ali tended to score more over all, while Frazier's were harder over all. Ali had lost most of his speed by this fight, he won just on experience and ring generalship. In rounds 1 & 2 Ali sat down on his punches and got Joe's respect and slowed him down, then he coasted with medium punches until rounds 13 & 14 where he sat down on his punches again throwing hard crisp punches. Ali knew how to conserve his energy for when it matters.

What people don't understand about these two is the speed they both have. When you punch you are NOT aiming for where they are, you are aiming for where *THEY ARE GOING TO BE.* Ali clocks Joe's movement and sticks out his forearm to gauge distance while frustrating him, and then throws that vicious hook or uppercut for when Joe's face is going to be there a millisecond after, hopefully Joe is moving INTO the punch so he gets KO'd. Ali popped him good a few times with those punches.

What a battle this was! Nearly 50 years ago, 10/1/75, two modern gladiators were slugging it out, trying desperately to outlast the other for 14 rounds in the Philippines. Few sporting events are worth watching repeatedly. The Thrilla in Manila is one of those few. Both fighters, Ali and Frazier, left it all out there in the ring in this career defining performance for all the ages.

Until the 12th, it was an even fight in my opinion. Ali closed Joe’s eyes and that was it. It was a tragic fight in so many ways. Wonderful and horrific. The fighters of that era threw bombs for 15 rounds and didn’t parse them out like they’re on ration like today. Ali and Joe FOUGHT! For all of the supposed improvements in training (?), the quality of heavyweight boxing isn’t the same today.

This was the best fight of the three. This fight took something out of both but more out of Frazier. I think it was the right thing for Fraziers handlers not to allow him to answer the bell for the 15th. They both were spent and Frazier was not going to knock Ali out, even with a lucky punch. Frazier didn’t have the energy and Ali’s chin had no equal, and I think that was in Frazier’s handlers mind in making the decision not to let him continue. The fight was over and they knew it.

Most people that talk about this fight fail to mention that after the 14th round Ali went back to his corner and told Angelo Dundee to cut his gloves off that he was done and not going back out to finish the fight. While Eddie Futch stopped Frazier from going out bc he was afraid Joe was close to death. Its funny how history has remembered these 2 men. One was treated as almost a mythical creature while one was largely forgotten. Yet they were equals in the ring.
