Arguably Ali's last great fight. He looked as good as he did in the Thrilla in Manila. After this came the 3rd fight with Norton, where he escaped by the skin of his teeth (many people believe Norton won), a lackluster win over Evangelista, then a near disaster against Shavers (though Shavers says Ali won). Ali easily could have retired after this, let Norton fight Young for the title, no one alive would have thought less of him, and it would have helped his health a great deal. Then again. Ali's the greatest, no matter what he did. Bigger than boxing, as Foreman said. Bigger than sports, really.

I have never been a fan of boxing, but now have plenty of time to look into things that I have ignored in the past. I have watched several fights of Ali with a variety of opponents and have come to some probably very obvious conclusions. He does not hit hard, but stingingly. He punishes the eyes of the opponent. He moves extremely well. He can take repeated punches well and can shake off the occasional heavy hit. He likes to wear the opponent down with stinging blows and letting the opponent punch themselves out. He may be the best pure boxer that the heavyweight division has ever seen. He is very smart in his craft and manages difficult moments quite well. If he could hit harder he would be undeniably the best ever. He may be anyway. Would have liked to see him versus Marciano and Tyson to seal the deal.
@ItsBenRoyboy3 жыл бұрын
Great assessment
@kcash63593 жыл бұрын
For someone who has never been a fan of boxing, you did pretty well. Of course, most of what you said is common knowledge among boxing fans. As for who's the best, it's Ali. Marciano didn't have anything close to the competition Ali did. Ali fought some of the hardest hitting and best heavyweights of all-time. Rocky could hit hard with either hand and was always is great condition, but Ali's speed would've been too much. Ali could also hit pretty hard too. He was 6'3 & 215+ lbs, so he was a big heavyweight. He had long reach and of course, he was very fast. As for Tyson, he not only hit hard, but also had extremely fast hands. His defense was superb as well. Tyson had two weaknesses. He had trouble, at times, with good fighters who were big. Tyson also counted on intimidation of his opponents to give him a huge edge. After he lost to Douglas, some of that aura started to fade. Ali would never have been intimidated and certainly would've controlled any pre-fight routines. I think Ali would've been so far in Tyson's head, Ali's voice would come through Tyson's lips. Tyson would've been frustrated soon into the fight and he wouldn't have lasted long after that. Ali dominated the 60s & 70s heavyweights. In the Golden Age of the Heavyweight Division (70s), with some of the best heavyweights ever, he fought and beat them all. He ruled. No other heavyweight can make that claim. There are few fighters who ruled over any division, for that long, against the best fighters in the history of that division.

@@kcash6359 [James Dylan Dean] I bow to your superior knowledge. What is obvious to the average fan are newly found convictions to a late time viewing observer. I didn't mean to infer that I was some kind of boxing authority, just reflecting my impressions by watching some boxers matches lately.
@kcash63593 жыл бұрын
@@Jamesdylandean I certainly didn't mean to be insulting and I apologize if my post came off that way. It's always great to see new fight fans and your post was observant and intuitive. You hit all the points right on and that was very impressive. Most of my post was my opinion, but there are plenty of others who think Marciano or Tyson would beat Ali. Boxing fans debate and argue as much or more than baseball fans. I hope you enjoy watching these videos. I used to box and have been watching fights for decades. I still rarely blink during a round and constantly playback a punch, combination or a fighter's movement. All these years and I am still learning. Hope we get to talk again.

Thank you for the upload. Much appreciated. I believe Ali is the greatest although Larry Holmes is my favorite. I am responding to this fight mainly because there are many Ali fans who keep blaming Larry Holmes for the Holmes vs. Ali fiasco in 1980. You have some misinformed and emotional fans who have wished death on Holmes and lived their revenge through Tyson who defeated Holmes. In reality, the Holmes vs. Ali fight could have been prevented had Ali defended his title on this date against Larry Holmes instead of Dunn. Holmes was undefeated at this point with about 21 fights. There was a promotional thing about all this, to take the show on the road. They'd stage bouts all around the world, but then they'd set the bouts for insane hours at these venues so as to have TV prime time back in the States. 3.30 AM in the middle of the night in Munich. That's about 9.30 AM or 10.30 AM in Australia, that's okay for Australians, except that its work and school hours. For the USA eastern seaboard that is mid-evening prime time of about 7.30 PM or 8.30 PM, at about 7 hours behind western Europe.

When Foreman lost he claimed THAT the ROPES were LOOSE as an excuse so he won’t look bad losing to someone he thought he would destroy, and It wasn’t Muhammad Ali’s idea to get his gloves cut during the bout with Henry cooper it was Angelo Dundee’s AKA his trainer and how much time did he save? Maximum 10 seconds? Minimum 4 seconds? And he never held Frazier’s neck for that long and if he did that for that long whats the problem? That means he’s allowed to do that.
