Business is important, not humanity. Not only was he smart, but he also had the strongest punch of all time. His giant fists pounded like a giant slash hammer. The media and false propaganda destroyed Sonny Liston more than anything else. Muhammad Ali did not beat Liston, but journalists and all other media even in his 47 years of life after numerous victories. Sad, Very sad. His glory.

Sonny Liston was the scariest heavyweight in the world and Ali didn't just beat him, he toyed with him. People back then had no idea that this was no upset. We were seeing the rise of the greatest heavyweight champion in history.
@DrooledOn2 жыл бұрын
One was old and the other wasn’t. Just like when Ali fought Larry Holmes and Berbick.
@MrMarco8552 жыл бұрын
I'll try to be a help to you. You have a completely wrong idea about all of this. Ali toyed with nobody. Listion never attempted to land a single punch, both of their fights were fixed by the mob, Liston had to play along or possibly get killed if he didn't comply. Ali was barely an adult, he had no power for a heavyweight, the odds were 8 or 9 to 1 for a reason. Liston would have KO'd Ali in 1 to 3 rounds, Ali had no chance to handle liston and keep from getting KO'd. It's just the simple truth, 100 years from now it will still be the truth. Ali's handlers ducked Eddie Machen during the same period, they thought Ali was still too inexperienced and Machen was a tough guy. Ali never fought Machen, but the same handlers put 21 year old Ali in with the toughest man in boxing history. Why no fear of Liston but avoid Machen if not for a fixed fight?
@MajikBoxx2 жыл бұрын
@@MrMarco855 Not true! In 1964 almost everyone - including Liston, the media, 'experts' and the mob - expected Liston to run through Clay (as he was still named), in 1 or 2 rounds. The second fight was definitely a fix but not the first. Ali was never KO'd even past his prime; post-ban from 1970: including against prime Quarry (2), Frazier (3), Norton (3), Foreman, Lyle, Shavers, then Holmes (where RSF in round 10 as 38 year-old Ali - already with Parkinson's and drained by too much thyroid meds - had not been fighting back) and then a young Berbick. No one could KO Clay/Ali and Liston was trying his level best to KO a blinded 'Clay' in round 5 of their 1st fight; he was not holding back. Perhaps if the second fight had not been postponed due to an Ali hernia, Liston who was apparently in great shape would have had a better chance than later on, but we'll never know. It should also be remembered that, even though the eventual second fight was a joke, a still young Ali had grown in weight and another half inch in height by that one, and his granite chin and boxing style were already all wrong for an ageing Liston. In some parts of both fights, Ali did indeed toy with Liston and not obvious at first, on closer scrutiny can be seen to be talking to Liston throughout their first fight during or after exchanges. Also, look again at the times during the fight when Clay kept his hands low and moved only his head while Liston's bombs missed by inches, before Ali struck back with rapid combos, sometimes talking to Liston and even cutting him below his eye. Liston was great but Clay/Ali was just greater, and the antidote to Liston (and all opponents during the 1960s in particular). Machen was aiming for a world title shot before and during Clay's rise. He fought high-ranked opponents between 1960 and '64 while Clay was developing; had 2 fights in 1964 including a loss to Patterson (between suffering from mental health problems that kept him out of the ring). Machen eventually fought Terrell for the WBA title stripped from Ali in '65 but lost. Ali beat both Patterson and Terrell in '65 and '67 respectively. He fought twice in '65 after the hernia operation then 5 times against top contenders (bar Brian London) in 1966. If Machen had won that fight, Ali would have eventually fought him instead of Terrell. With his religious beliefs and self-confidence, Ali didn't fear any opponent enough not to fight them and is unlikely to have been afraid of a hit-and-move fighter like Machen - as good and tough as Machen was.

The Man reviewing the films with Ali is Jim Jacobs, Mike Tyson's Future Manager. Ali was the one who ACTUALLY recommended Jacobs to D'amato about Managing Tyson with Bill Cayton. That's the reason Ali never denigrated Tyson. In Fact Ali gave Tyson a Great plug one time by suggesting the impossible....that Tyson could possibly have a chance to KO him. Even though Ali felt NO ONE could ever have beaten him in his Youth, the comment caused Sponsors and the Public to take Tyson seriously. Tyson later fired Cayton and ROONEY After Jacobs died of Cancer.

Ali didn't have to go through anything... at least in the comparison of Liston, he was a middle class quarter white black guy in the south which had a college education, was literate, could've found a job even if he lost to Sonny Liston to support himself, he was a muslim, a draft dodger, and he named himself after the Prophet Muhammad who was a white Arabian slave owner who owned black slaves in Africa and professed himself as king of the world rather than keeping his name in which was named after Cassius Herman Clay whom was an abolitionist in the south that helped black slaves to be free.

Cleavland was a very strong puncher as well so Sonny showed he’s got some pretty good skills as a boxer and can take some really good punches. I think when Liston and Ali got into a clench he should have let loose to his head. If he had landed one clean punch and didn’t stop then he might have won. He just didn’t realize how great of a mover Ali was and underestimated him and got frustrated because he expected it to be an easy fight and thought he didn’t have a chance and quit. That’s where Rocky Marciano would have done his best and picked it up. Where Rocky differed from the other hard punchers was he didn’t know what the word quit means. But Sonny seemed like a nice man and a gentleman. Like Duran people make them out to be monsters but in life they showed a lot of heart. But they got in a hell of a lot of street fights as well.
