Honestly As a soldier I have taken just my woobie out to the field several times in 30 degree weather. Almost every soldier would tell you the woobie is the greatest and most beloved piece of equipment ever issued by any army ever

Excellent video. You answered a question I had but didn't want to spend the $$$ to try to answer. Going back to my old stomping grounds in WY for some winter camping this year. I have a Marmot Hydrogen 30 degree bag and I was wondering if the Woobie would significantly lower the bags temp rating or would I have to splurge on a winter bag. Kifaru confirms your statement of a 30 degree rating for the Woobie and 20 for the Doobie. I'd feel a lot more confident with the latter but the IRS owns me right now so I'll probably have to settle for the least expensive option. Thanks again.

I use my woobie paired with a sea to summit liner and pad with a pillow all spring/summer/early fall. And my doobie late fall and winter. Best sleep ive got in the backcountry!

good review! Thank you.

My only problem with this is the price point. If you have it in a car i would imagine a wool blanket is better. Its bulk doesn't matter because its in the vehicle, and it only costs 15 dollars.

How about using it in conjunction with a wool blanket

Try it inside of a bivy with a pad that should increase your temp and adds very little to your pack.

Berz, you've got to test HPG Mountain Serape.

Would having a poncho ontop of it increase the rating?

I could see myself using this while hammock camping in the summer and early fall.

Im researching to see if anyone has used it as a primary sleep system in their tent or tarp set up during the September hunting season?

I wouldn’t past September. But you could up until then I believe.

Excellent review Berz. (I always think of you as "Skipper" because of "Captain" in your name! LOL God bless my Beloved Corps!) When I hear the term "woobie", I immediately think of poncho liner. I would guess this one is much better than the G.I. issued poncho liner based on the material it's made from. Like the poncho liner, this seems to be a supplement to a sleeping system, only better. I'm not sure if you've done a review on a poncho liner; maybe I missed it? I will have to look back at your videos. The one thing that stands out for me in this review that may make it better than a poncho liner, is that it seems water repellant based on the material. Is that correct? Hope you had a terrific Christmas sir. Thanks for staying on duty over the holidays.

I have one in my bob along with a opsec multicam poncho, together they fit in a 6x12" stuff sack that fits perfectly at the bottom of my camelbak linchpin. the system weighs under 3lb. I use it down to 40 degrees. It also works as a hammock underquilt in a pinch.

Hey Birz, I know this is off topic for this video, but do you plan on getting into night vision into the future? I haven't seen many folks utilizing it with AK builds. Keep up the great videos!

Not really. I have thermal but I will not be mounting it on anything.

I carry one of these in my hunting pack in case I get caught out, its not luxury but might keep you from going hypothermic in an emergency. I was also considering combining with a light weight ~40 degree bag to make a more versatile 20-30 degree system for ~ 3lbs total weight, very interested in your test results on this option. Perhaps a USGI MSS Patrol Bag (~40 degrees/2lbs, and CHEAP).

Doobie?
@urthpainter5 жыл бұрын
Doobie is a warmer version of this blanket. It's what Kifaru calls their woobie with twice the insulation = doobie.
