Claro, entiendo que vivió en Barcelona por un tiempo donde aprendió español y catalan. En cambio la chica como contó siempre estuvo en un entorno mixto y su español está notoriamente influenciado por los demás hablantes de español con los que interactua, al vivir en usa y ser segunda generación es más probable hablar spanglish que un español "puro", no es que este mal ni nada sino que son diferentes contextos que moldean el idioma.

I would like to speak 2 languages on c2 than 6 on b1. Being a "poliglot"(6+ languages) is pathetic. You will never be really good in any of your foreign languages. It means you stay monolingual for the rest of your life ask any of these "poliglots" if they write about their languages in their resume. They don't because they don't speak them actually.

As a Cajun, I will say, there are quite a few people here who speak Cajun French (be warned. Cajun and creole mean two different things here. People,language,and heritage). It's mostly the older generations but some younger people are learning because a few collages have set it up as classes for summer learning. Some high schools too. He wants to see the difference between Acadia (canada) and Acadiana (the heart of Cajun country in Louisiana). I welcome him. Perfect time now as carnival season just started. Yet, I am only half Cajun. My mom is from another country. Eu gostaria de visitar Nova York, um dia! parece incrível!

I'm italian and I must say that Matthew speaks Italian maybe better than Hugh. Hugh's pronunciation is quite good, but you can hear that he is an English speaker and he sometimes makes some mistakes. Matthew's pronunciation is not totally perfect, but it's really really good and there are no grammatic mistakes

I think this is one upside to living in big cities Like in Houston A lot of Vietnamese Spanish Tagalog Portuguese French and I guess Korean are being heard more and more but it's surrounded by areas that have German heritage

Good video. I am Irish and I can only speak a few words "cúpla focal" of Irish and that is after studying it for about 10 years in total. That is the same as all Irish children in Ireland. We are not taught the language properly and it is very sad imo. We are taught just enough in order to pass a test and once we pass that test then nobody cares if we speak it well or not.

13ritalove A long time ago the British invaded Ireland as they did so many other countries. We rebelled and that is why there is a Republic of Ireland and a Northern Ireland. The North is still under British rule. It is interesting if you google it. This is why we speak English.

Yeah, I think another big thing is the conflicting dialects. You'll just be getting to grips with one dialect when 'hey, how about a completely different one?'. It's really sad that so few people speak it fluently but I always feel so blessed when people speak it to me, even if it's just the cúpla focal. It's nice to speak in my native language and it shows so much respect for our country's history and culture.

You don't hear a different italian, you just hear dialects mostly, dialects are languages and in italy we have thousands. So it is not another italian but dialects used perhaps by old people that teach their sons and so on.. =)

please notice the difference between these two expressions: "sono affamato" = "I'm starving", "ho fame" = "I' m hungry"... "sono affamato" is not uncorrect but it implies you are very very hungry, almost suffering starvation...

I’m Mexican-American. I’m not into too… too much of the Mexican- American culture I like the Mexican culture more from Mexico. But I would love to try authentic Mexican and other Latin American foods from NY. I’m also not into too.. too much of the Spanish language but if I want to speak it, I can only speak a bit over these communities and continue learning some more and along with different dialects too!

Just a quick observation on his Italian: "cheesecake" is also called "cheesecake" in Italian, we don't translate it like the spanish do, "torta di formaggio" sounds quite bizarre, I immediately thought "is it salty?" XD And also the question "è bene?" is not natural, we say "va bene?", to ask if a sentence is grammatically correct. I think he had some interfrences with Spanish there.

How the heck do you build up a language learning like from French to Zulu for example for a native English apeaker? Start from the Germanic languages if you fing them easiest to slavakian languags to Greek etc from beginner to advanced? That is if I can ever get my head out of this sims 3 game I like.

In the north of spain there's a few celtic regions, but the main one is Galicia, whos celtic people are said to be the ones that colonized Britain. And they have their own language (gallego) wich is almost like portuguese because long ago they were just one language (gallego-portugues) but then they split up. Dont know if this makes sense haha

Chalynda Jackson "Chinese" is sort of the blanket word we use to include all dialects spoken in China, because they are indistinguishable to the English speaker's ear. But there are many different languages spoken in China. Mandarin is by far the most popular with over a billion speakers. Cantonese and Wu are also popular, around 60 million speakers each.
