Marina D Lol, I was never a friend to my children, nor did I hit them. Discipline is learned by respect and it begins with parents respecting their children. Far too many adults believe they are entitled to belittle, bully and make fun of their children, then of course as the children grow they realize what losers their parents are and have zero respect for them, teachers, authority... Eventually, most survive it though they are not better off for having experienced such treatment. Mental health issues in this country have been exasperated by abuse. Depression, substance abuse and low self esteem are often born out of such experiences. Hitting children is a worn out concept. Educate yourself if you don’t know how to treat infants and children. No excuses anymore, all of the information is available to anyone who cares to learn.

The best parenting advice I ever got was from my college boyfriend’s mother. She always said “I’m not their friend I’m their mother. They have plenty of friends but only one mother.” My mother was very young when she had me and was a single mother and she over shared with me, tried to be my friend and often relied on me to be the responsible one because she “never got to grow up because of me.” She often said that I raised her, which really isn’t funny. I swore to do it differently with mine and I did. It’s not like we never had fun together, because we did, but I never blurred those lines. Now, they’re all respectful, successful adults that were crazy proud of.

No 6 year old would understand this concept.. That's something you do for teenagers that start to act like everything is theirs, they don't need you, etc. A 6 year old would have no concept of having to earn things back. They'd just think you're being extremely cruel - which you are. Of course though I have no doubt that you'll reply back saying something along the lines of this is how it was for you when you grew up and/or that's how you handled it with X amount of kids. None of that makes it right though.

To the day Dad died at 88yrs, he was still the Boss. He just had to look at you and he always gave one warning. Mom never touched us. All she had to say was "I'll tell your Dad" and we did what we were told. They were united in what was expected of us and with 7 boys and 3 girls they had their hands full but we all loved and respected our Parents. They instilled a strong work ethic right from the start and you were expected to become a productive member of society, yet we always knew we would be welcomed home if we needed a break. I miss my parents every day. My siblings and I often talk about Mom and Dad and funny stuff that happened in the family over the years. I wouldn't give him the opportunity. I don't have kids, and don't particularly care for them. I probably would have been a frustrated abusive parent. I enjoy my freedom, and kids are lifestyle destroyers. I have better things I want to do than deal with kids. (Jan Griffiths).

I'm worried about his sibling as well, because a kid who has a sibling to take all the attention from parents tend to be very quiet and well behaved when young, but they also need parents affection after all but do not learn how to express their feeling. Some people might explode when they get older

Being a mom firstly means to protect her son from danger ,its her duty to teach him to be aware from bad situations generally ,,teach rules its also important otherwise all gets out of hand like in this situation, Aniway the kid should learn the lesson in other way than letting hurt himself but its better to not get anxious like that

kimmie Wise well they never said babies. Obviously babies lack reasoning skills and abstract thought process. Yes maybe OP exaggerated but letting your kids experience consequences to their actions (with warnings) in a controlled manner can be a form of discipline too. You wouldn’t let your kids get seriously maimed or die but if they get a minor booboo they will learn “oh gee last time I did that mommy said I would get hurt and then I got hurt so maybe I shouldn’t do that again and maybe I should listen to mommy”

My step sister had hyperactivity and behavior disorder and my dad removed sugar from her diet , he only fed her meat and veggies no sweet potatoes and a few crackers now n then for snack. He saw a huge difference the same day , she played and interacted calmly and took healthy naps. Look on UTube for videos such as "Sweeteners Explained" ,it will explain which sweeteners are good and which are bad because they're just like sugar.
