The most important advice my mother ever gave me was when I brought my newborn first child home from the hospital. After gushing over my baby’s beauty and health, Mom looked me straight in the eye and said “NEVER allow this child’s will to be stronger than yours, or you will lose control of your home.” I followed that advice from that day on raising our 3 kids, and each of them has thanked their Dad and me for the love and training we gave them. They are now 34, 33, and 31. Thanks, Mom!!!

I have 3 boys, 17, 5, and 2.. my 17 year old I had strong mental health etc and I didn’t struggle mentally when he was young.. but when I had my 5 year old I had a really bad year, and basically had a mental breakdown. I was unable to properly handle him, with discipline etc. and I’m currently trying to undue the mistakes I made with him. He’s not as bad as this boy, but it’s a struggle with him for sure. It’s crazy bc when I had my oldest son and I was a strong parent, I always judged kids and parents who couldn’t do what was necessary. But now I realize, sometimes moms just need support.

Marina D Lol, I was never a friend to my children, nor did I hit them. Discipline is learned by respect and it begins with parents respecting their children. Far too many adults believe they are entitled to belittle, bully and make fun of their children, then of course as the children grow they realize what losers their parents are and have zero respect for them, teachers, authority... Eventually, most survive it though they are not better off for having experienced such treatment. Mental health issues in this country have been exasperated by abuse. Depression, substance abuse and low self esteem are often born out of such experiences. Hitting children is a worn out concept. Educate yourself if you don’t know how to treat infants and children. No excuses anymore, all of the information is available to anyone who cares to learn.

The best parenting advice I ever got was from my college boyfriend’s mother. She always said “I’m not their friend I’m their mother. They have plenty of friends but only one mother.” My mother was very young when she had me and was a single mother and she over shared with me, tried to be my friend and often relied on me to be the responsible one because she “never got to grow up because of me.” She often said that I raised her, which really isn’t funny. I swore to do it differently with mine and I did. It’s not like we never had fun together, because we did, but I never blurred those lines. Now, they’re all respectful, successful adults that were crazy proud of.

lelechim Then your mother just simply gave birth to you in order for her to simply apply her dominance and control over you. (Maybe she did it out of love) but it can simply because according to her she just simply wanted to show you “whose boss.” Maybe that can be considered a form of toxic parenting as well. I really do hope that you are okay now and wishing you all the best with everything.

In my house, Jack would be down to bare basics, food, water, clothes and a roof over his head. Everything in his room would be packed up and he would have to earn his playtime and toys back one at a time based on proper behavior. Tolerating all that abusiveness is beyond ridiculous.

No 6 year old would understand this concept.. That's something you do for teenagers that start to act like everything is theirs, they don't need you, etc. A 6 year old would have no concept of having to earn things back. They'd just think you're being extremely cruel - which you are. Of course though I have no doubt that you'll reply back saying something along the lines of this is how it was for you when you grew up and/or that's how you handled it with X amount of kids. None of that makes it right though.
@morganm5370

@Eventide215
@Eventide215 4 жыл бұрын
@@morganm5370 Just like I said, someone would reply with this. That style doesn't ever work with kids. They don't understant that concept until they get older. If a teenager starts acting like they own what you've bought for them and so on, taking their stuff away to the bare minimum teaches them. Also, ALL teens act up in some way. It's a guarantee, that's why it's called "teenage rebellion"..

My parents raised 10 of us. My Dad hit me twice in my life for deliberately disobeying a direct rule. He rarely hit any of us but we knew the option was there if we went too far. To the day Dad died at 88yrs, he was still the Boss. He just had to look at you and he always gave one warning. Mom never touched us. All she had to say was "I'll tell your Dad" and we did what we were told. They were united in what was expected of us and with 7 boys and 3 girls they had their hands full but we all loved and respected our Parents. They instilled a strong work ethic right from the start and you were expected to become a productive member of society, yet we always knew we would be welcomed home if we needed a break. I miss my parents every day. My siblings and I often talk about Mom and Dad and funny stuff that happened in the family over the years. It was only when I started work in a big city and heard colleagues talk about their Parents and families that I fully appreciated how lucky we were with the parents we had and the family they nurtured and raised.

My Dad warned my brother and I to stop hitting and fighting each other or he’d be cracking some heads. We didn’t stop. We even consoled each other! Never did that again.
