@@kathymcel True, but I think the bigger issue is that she was disappointed "again" (did anyone notice that "again" in her comment?) that her mother put herself over her daughter. If the strict cap on the budget was because she truly couldn't afford more than that it would be one thing, but the mom frankly states it's because she's more interested in looking amazing herself than in how her daughter looks or what she wants for her wedding day. Mom is clearly a narcissist and has done things like this to her daughter before. Frankly, Talia's best bet is to cut Mom out completely and pay for her own dress, but we always hope our parents, and moms in particular, will live up to what we wish they were.

The mother was out of line to try and hijack the appointment for her own dress shopping, but I don't understand this expectation/mentality that anyone but the bride should be financially responsible for the wedding gown. Pay for your own dress, and everyone and their opinions can take a seat. Your wedding, your money, your rules. If a family member offers to cover the cost of the dress as a gift, then have the decency to respect their budget; it is a gift in the end.

it's a holdover from the days of a bride's family paying a dowry in order for the other family to take on the "financial burden" of providing for their daughter. not to mention the only reason she's being such a stinker about the budget is because she's more concerned about her OWN dress. i feel so sorry for that bride having to deal with such a narcissist for a mom.

@@dietotaku The mom does come across as a narcissist in so many ways... but that is a separate matter. And it's good to be strict with the budget because if you go over for one thing... you might go over for everything else and be left with debt.
