I feel like people don't realize that as immigrants, they bring with them a knowledge of their homelands and gift that knowledge and identity back to those who have lost it or had it eradicated from their people in the states. I'm a foreign student in Senegal, the country has so many amazingly special places to go to, the problem they have is advertisment, here's a list of places you definitely have to check out if you ever come: Lake Retba or the Rose lake The islands ( there are a lot of them namely Gorée, Ngor and Saloum) The reserve of Fath'Allah The reserve of Bandia The Renaissance monument Edit : there are a lot of museums, tiny but you'll still learn a lot from them, they exist in islands too so check them out. Etc.. the list goes on, just watch out for your wallet and purses, although they don'tt steal as much as other countries, but you never know especially when you're clearly a tourist, you also take taxis by bargaining the price, the main language is Wolof but people in Dakar understand French too, the currency is Franc CFA Or XOF.

The food looks delicious. I must say I’m surprised he was surprised there is such a heavy African influence in Brazil since there are more Afro descendants living there than any country outside of the African continent. Some Brazilians returned to Africa after their emancipation.

Africans don't learn this history, they don't even learn about the history of why their own ethnic groups are dispersed across countries some speaking french, others english, and remember the only black people the corporate media has portrayed prior to the internet is black americans, other black people have been disappeared except for the 'starving African child'.

Right now they park at the 76 Gas Station on the corner of Lakeshore Ave. and Lake Park Ave. I'm about to walk down there for lunch today! At least, that's where I've seen the truck most days.

This was at the Akoma market in East Oakland. A great market to check out if you're in the area. The black van next to his is from Red Bay coffee, another great Oakland eatery

@@ruu4643 I went yesterday. Got the carne and the caprese empanadas. Caprese was real good and had a great crisp. The carne was amazing! Going to try the lamb next time.

I got to try this earlier in the summer this year. Had a couple of the empanadas, both pretty good, though now I wished I'd tried that Brazilian shrimp situation. It's cool that they came out to East Oakland and the Akoma Market specifically. So often lately when I see things about food and culture in Oakland, it's focused on things meant largely for new Oaklanders, things located in Uptown and Temescal. I appreciated seeing my neighborhood shown not just as place where people are killing each other, but also as a place where people just eat and live and do their thing.
