Thanks for stopping by and checking out my videos, I appreciate it! :) And yes, I am convinced it does! The ultra wide angle shots are amazing. Love the one at 10:10. The light is beautiful. And the "misses opportunity" sound will now stick in my head forever and play every time I miss a shot. And believe me "missed opportunities" is my 2nd nature when shooting street. So thanks for the Ohrwurm :-P but I never miss Vespa shots.

The M Photography it was really fun shooting with the 15mm on the street, hope to use it more often in the future for street when it’s safer to get close. And yes, after editing that video I was almost going crazy from that music, it’s totally burned into my brain as well. Sorry I infected you - but maybe it’s a good way of classical conditioning and results in not missing any opportunities to avoid hearing the sound? 🤔

Just checked for "Street photography Munich" and your video came out. I enjoyed it and found the missed opportunities a good touch of humour as the regret hits hard when you edit the video and see what you missed. I felt every single one of them 😂 Also, the soft voice and, I guess, introvert personality makes the video very relatable and makes it easier to watch. It could be me trying to avoid the embarrassment of being seen trying to get the photo. In my case I guess I am way more visible, but still very relatable. I will be watching your videos as soon as I post this comment. 😄 Thank you for the video, I liked it very much!

Hey Karin! Thanks for the photowalk and the shots! I really like the “missed opportunities”. I feel this so often when I go out shooting. In these moments it says “click” in my head, mimicking the sound of a shutter that actually didn’t fire because I’ve missed the moment. I like the honesty in your video. By the way, you took some really nice shots!

Thank you Axel, I really appreciate it! And I totally know what you mean - in situations where I don't have my camera with me I totally do the same. Honesty is truly what I am going for, I am neither a pro nor an expert but just a girl who likes to go out and shoot films. I am learning and practicing every time I go out and don't want to "educate" people but much rather share my experiences, with all my successes, my mistakes, the good shots and the bad shots, so I am glad that people recognise the honesty I am going for.

Karin, nice work on street photos in Munich. Photos were quite sharp with clear contrast, something you would expect with Leitz lenses. Hence, their premium value even used. Notice this part of city is entirely paved with even lighting, and there is little shade and no green spaces that would add a bit of variety. Am sure there must be parks with sitting areas that would soften the overall look vs pavement and stone facades. Think in this particular urban setting, people seem more formal vs catching images or human interest when people are resting or sharing company. Amazing what a good camera can do, along with the right processing of B&W film. Nicely done.

@@KarinMajoka Karin, your videos are fun to watch and informative. I have a late model Leica M3 with a Leitz Elmer 50mm f2.8 collapsible lens. The M3 doesn’t have a light meter but is considered once of the best designed rangefinder cams around and is considered by some to be a classic. For metering, I use a hand-held Gossen Pilot light meter, which after some practice, isn’t that slow. Leica cameras are generally considered a premium brand, and even used they sell for much higher prices. I am still looking for an “affordable” 50mm M mount Summicron f2.0 lens, there is nothing less than $1,000. Most are being sold by collectors/users in Japan, which is a good source for used gear. People there tend to take very good care of their equipment. I also use a Pentax Spotmatic SPII (the Asahi Pentax story is remarkable), and the Spotmatic debuted in the 1964 Tokyo Olympic Games. The Takumar 50mm f1.4 lens they made is considered one of the best prime lenses. I just acquired a rebuilt Minolta SRT202 with its Rokkor 50mm f1.7 lens, and the all-metal SRT line are considered “tanks” by most photographers. Continue your shooting and enjoyment of film. It is a remarkable medium that people abandoned too soon. Be well and be safe. All the best. Norman

It's nice to see other places in the world with things going on... We're still eight months in on a fairly strict lockdown here in CA. I dunno what it's like in LA but here in the bay area its still a ghost town. There's a little more people out now but nothing with public crowds. I can't even imagine the level of freakout that would happen if there were that many people out in public without masks.

I shot this video in September, I think the situation today here in Germany would already look rather different because the numbers went up immensely during the last week. Therefore everything is possible here as well and I suspect stricter rules and less people outside here too anytime soon. Anyway, hang in there and stay healthy! :)

All you "missed opportunities" made me think of one I had today. I was sitting outside at a coffee house when 3 shirtless maybe homeless guys passed about 10 feet in front of me. One was pushing a shopping cart full of random stuff and all were wearing military camouflage pants. Also, one was carrying a flag. My camera was in my backpack but by the time I thought of pulling it out they were gone.
@KarinMajoka
@KarinMajoka 3 жыл бұрын
Oh wow, that sounds like an interesting scene though, thanks for sharing! I had several situations where I was not fast enough to take out my camera which is why I try to make it a habit to carry a point and shoot in the pocket of my jacket. The first missed opportunity I showed in my video was for example missed because I was drinking some water during that situation 😅

Don't focus too hard on missed opportunities, everyone has them. Even the best will have had moments where they thought 'Damn, I should've had that on film' Focus on the shots that were made, and even more on the good shots you've made. Learn from those, and develop yourself to see 'in the future' Get a feel for certain things to happen before they do, and be ready when it does happen ;)

My memory of a “missed” shot, or rather a shot I would love to have taken, was of a guy sitting at a coffee table reading a book with his terrier sat on another chair on a cushion with his paws on the table and his chin between them. It wasn’t possible sadly because I was driving a car stopped at traffic lights. Needless to say, I never saw that situation again!

I liked the high contrast aspect of this film including the black shadows. I was interested in the shots with the 15mm as I am thinking about this lens versus the 21mm. These Voigtlander lenses seem really sharp!
@KarinMajoka
@KarinMajoka 3 жыл бұрын
For sure, I am a huge fan of the Voigtländer lenses! I think both lenses are really great, depending on what you are looking for. 15mm is a large portion wider than the 21mm, however the 21mm might be a bit more versatile. Hope you can make a choice - pretty sure you won’t go wrong with either way!

Hi Karin. I've been slowly seeing your past videos after catching the one with your sister. At the same time, I have finally been able to afford a Leica 6. There's so many versions of it. It's either a titanium M6 or a chrome M6. Would you know which ones better ? Was there a reason you went with the titanium version ? Thank you

Honestly: I don't think the paint finish is the most important criterion. I would rather see if you can find one in good condition maybe with a newer serial number. I have a video up about how I got my Leica M6 in case you are interested in that. I got the titanium one more or less by "accident" because that was the one I found locally at a store in the city where I live.

I have used a Leica M8 for street with 50 mm and 35 mm lenses which translate to a 70 mm full frame and 50 mm full frame approx . I love Ilford Xp2 and Portra and shoot with a Canon AE-1 but the digital Leica is very film like - most film like digital camera in my opinion. Your M6 is superb - try Zeiss 28 or Summicron 35 both wonderful on that camera ! After that just keep taking more and more and more pictures!--forget the techie stuff ! Like your photos and videos !

Karin. I’m about to develop my first roll of Street Candy shot with my Leica M-A. I’m going to be interested in how it turns out but what I’m a little concerned about is how I’m going to avoid fouling it when loading it on the spiral for the Paterson tank because it seems very thin and I expect it to be fiddly. Do you develop your own film and, if so, any thoughts?
@KarinMajoka
@KarinMajoka 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Martin, hope your development went well! Yes, I develop on my own, I also developed this roll of Street Candy in Xtol (1+1 dilution) for 12 minutes. And I agree, since the base was very thing it was fiddly, yet it did not seem like the film was easy to rip or break - it’s also worth to mention that the film does not have any running numbers around the edges so it’s also a bit tricky when scanning.

Do you really notice much of a difference without the soft release button? I've always avoided them. I love a lot of the shots! Yeees, the packaging is great! Personally I find shooting with a soft release button more comfortable, I feel like I have a bit more control over the shutter button. To be honest I like the pictures taken with the 15mm more. The one with two people taking a picture of a church is my favourite. I don't know if it's on purpose, but with the other lens quite often a foot, leg, arm usw. is missing. This is ofcourse possible when done carefully, but to me it looks like it just happened.
@KarinMajoka
@KarinMajoka 3 жыл бұрын
Thank for your feedback, I appreciate it! I cannot image shooting everything and always with the 15mm, but it’s refreshing to shoot that wide. With the 35mm it’s a bit of a trade off between narrow and wide, I don’t mind when there is some parts of the body missing when shooting, in trade to capture some emotion or interesting moment, but I understand that it’s not everybody’s preference :)

Sadly that’s very true, at least for me.
