The auto industry hasn't been shaken up like this for a while, and I can tell you guys are having fun thinking and talking about where it's headed. Thanks for sharing the wisdom!

Looks like we've come full circle. If I recall correctly, Sandy's first bout of fame in the Tesla community came from a video that John uploaded of Sandy lambasting the Model 3's original build quality, followed by a video of Sandy praising the electronics.

Well. I guess he said it, although it has been a long time coming. I've watched episodes of Autoline - After Hours, and Daily, over the years, and the amount of clap-trap, " return to the good ol' days" talk [as Sandy would call it] that one would hear used to make my jaw drop repeatedly. The better/best moments have been whenever Sandy has been on since he saw the BEV light [because he wasn't always like that - find an old A-AHs episode], and he would educate them. It's true you could hear John's attitude slowly changing, but Gary Vasilash would try desperately to find something negative to say about Tesla, or BEVs in general. As I've heard Sandy say, "these people will be swept away with the [B]EV tide."

What a fun, edifying video. I'm watching it again. Me? I started working on cars for money in 1962. From lot boy, mechanic, service manager, car sales, sales manager and GM at dealerships and independents alike. Never "domestic" mostly German and Subaru. At 77, I'm still at it, working at a company that converts RV generator systems to solar and lithium. I've been following John for years and Sandy since KZbin. I learned of Dr. Deming years back and I'm still influenced by his methods today. Thanks again for all you two are doing to move the industry along. Cars beat walking - still.

Herbert "tried an Elon".... If I say we need it in 2 years and we make it in 5 years.... A large portion of that "40%" will come around. Economics will be a big driver. When it's cheaper to buy electric along with the lower opex will change their mind. And some will have to age out, while keeping their old ICEVs on the road. I'm old enough to remember the resistance to moving from radios to TVs, B&W TVs to color, slide rules to pocket calculators, typewriters and ledger books to desktops, landline to cell phones, film to digital. Resistance breaks down in a surprisingly short time.

John hit the nail on the head…. the OEMs came out with junk cars in their first round because they lacked vision. Knowing that govts we’re going to require EVs they should have clean sheeted their EVs but they didn’t think that far ahead…. always wanting to do the minimum. The only thing OEMs are really good at is reactive policies. Their management, after the passing of their founders, has always been reactive NOT proactive. This is going to be seen by historians as the central reason for their ultimate downfall.

33:14 An interesting number that not a lot of people are talking about is the fact that GM produced nearly 8,200 Cadillac LYRIQ at Spring Hill during 2022. The fact that only 122 made it into customer hands that year means that something other than production capacity was holding up deliveries. Someone who claimed to work on the LYRIQ at GM told me that a couple of things related to unfinished software/features were holding up delivery to customers.

Great to see Sandy and John share their wisdom. PHEV users who rarely engage the ICE unit will "at least" have to buy non-ethanol fuel and stabilizers similar to the marine and small engine industries. Ethanol phase separates over time resulting in fuel system failure. Gasoline has a shelf life and eventually must be drained from the tank and system.
