I hate when people talk about “pulling the plug”. My dear son died after 6 days on life support in ICU. It was a decision in which we were full partners with the medical team. Everything was explained carefully and with great compassion, and we were at his side throughout the process of withdrawing treatment, being supported every step of the way, including agreeing to Ben’s organs being donated. It was desperately sad, but handled with the greatest of care in calm and peaceful surroundings. Describing it as “pulling the plug” is insulting to the deceased, their loved ones and the dedicated staff who do this most challenging work.

I think it is incredibly disrespectful for the lawyer doing the prosecution's opening statement to not remember key dates and ages. Vague statements make the victim, involved children, and others referred to seem unimportant and not valued. I hope it's not the case because the 'down home' affectation & lack of specificity looks like he's just going through the motions. I've seen a high number of opening statements in a range of cases, and where the lawyers show genuine care & respect, they often prevail. This may be a correlation and not a causitive variable, I am not a lawyer or legal researcher so it's just my observation. But if it was my family member who was killed, or children kidnapped by someone displaying unusual behaviours, I would not want this lawyer's opening statement. I would be devastated by his lack of mastery of key details. I'd feel he did not care, that he is not truly invested in presenting a comprehensive, clear, & correct case. Just my thoughts. I hope he gets better as the trial progresses or that his role is minimal, and someone else can advocate for the victim and others impacted by her death.
