I bought 14 ducklings. Yes, Muscovy. They were with their mother for a week. How old should they be before letting them in a pool. I have them kept in a 20 or 30 gallon horse trough. We took the heat off of them because of the day heat. Right or wrong? We had Peaking ducklings panting. They were 2 weeks old. We have never had ducks before. We've watched videos. Not a lot of detailed info on ducklings. Kind of food and such timeliness when to give at what stage.

I have female blue muscovy and i want to get silver colors, what color drake should i get to achieve silver color?
@FableHillFarm3 жыл бұрын
Hi there Josh. A blue drake bred to a blue hen will give you a shot at black, blue and silver offspring.

@@FableHillFarm how about lavender? Can i get it using blues?
@FableHillFarm3 жыл бұрын
@@hoshi5890 lavender is also a recessive gene so you need two lavender or lavender carriers to produce it.

So are the lighter colored well liked ? I've got a male and a few females that are white. Also a rippled lavander or lilac. I've noticed a lot of the drakes tend to chase after the lighter colored hens
@FableHillFarm2 жыл бұрын
That is interesting. I had not observed this in previous years, but now that you mentioned it, I've been watching my drakes for a few days as they are starting to mate the hens again very actively with the start of Spring, and I am noticing one lighter hen seems to be the favorite but I don't know if that is chance or not.
@brooke74642 жыл бұрын
@@FableHillFarm actually my grandmas drakes have been chasing the hens even during winter but i have noticed they do tend to go after the lighter colored females more. There's a wide color variety but I've always noticed that they chase White around. Like she would finally hatch her 12 babies and they'd be on her. My grandma started this flock about 3 years ago i think so ive been able to watch them and take pictures to record their growth. Last year there were babies running around on their own but none of the cats will try anything now. Just too many protective ducks. Most of the whites ive noticed tend to be female but we have one white drake. I haven't seen one (a white drake) like that at the auctions so i was wondering if it could be a rare or recessive trait ?

How to get chocolate ripple and lilac? Need help i cant understand how to get them and what colors do i need 🥺
@FableHillFarm3 жыл бұрын
Lilac is blue and chocolate so working with your blue hen, you could get lilac by using a chocolate drake. In order to get ripple offspring, both parents must express or carry ripple gene as it is recessive.
@tonymalaluan3 жыл бұрын
I hope you get certified soon. What I hope to get in the near future is silver, buff, and/or chocolate. White, black, and their combination are relatively easy to find. I enjoyed seeing all the other colours you've got...
@FableHillFarm3 жыл бұрын
As do I Tony, as do I. It has been difficult to locate someone who can certify my flock thus far, but I am still looking. The silver hens are really beautiful and the buff can be too if their color is even.
@jeffreycozzolino95683 жыл бұрын
The goal for my flock is to have them start hatching ducklings in the spring. What steps if any do you take to separate new mamma and her ducklings from the flock? Ive got 8 hens and 2 drakes. If you separate mamma and her ducklings how do you do it logistically and for how long before they can be repopulated? If you've done a video on this please let me know as im trying to plan ahead for this as best i can. Thank you in advance.
@FableHillFarm3 жыл бұрын
I don't separate at all; hens choose their nesting spots, hatch their eggs and bring their ducklings out to join the flock within a day or two of hatching. I have only had 1 issue with ducklings being killed or injured, and that was from an aggressive hen that killed her own ducklings (and she was culled). I would not personally separate because it will only make aggression more likely when reintroducing and I free-range my birds so that just doesn't work well for my setup.

can you pls tell me why there are many unfertile eggs in my muscovy ducks Im From the Philippines .Thankyou
@genevievegreene15953 жыл бұрын
How many hens and drakes do you have
@FableHillFarm3 жыл бұрын
+Kuusela Sebastian I would ask what your drake ro hen ratio is also? If too few drakes then they won’t be able to cover all the hens. Typically 4-6 hens per drake is a good ratio.
