WON’T STAND DOWN
I never believed that I would concede and let someone trample on me
You strung me along, I thought I was strong, but you were just gaslighting me
I’ve opened my eyes, & counted the lies, & now it is clearer to me
You are just a user, and an abuser, living vicariously
I never believed that I would concede and get myself blown asunder
You strung me along, I thought I was strong, but now you have pushed me under
I’ve opened my eyes, and counted the lies, now it is clearer to me
You are just a user, and an abuser, and I refuse to take it
Won’t stand down
I’m growing stronger
Won’t stand down
I’m owned no longer
Won’t stand down
You’ve used me for too long, now die alone
Now I’m coming back, a counterattack, I’m playing you at your own game
I’m cutting you out, a shadow of doubt
Is gonna hang over your name
I’ve opened my eyes, I see your disguise,
I will never see you the same
I know how to win, before you begin
I’ll shoot you before you take aim
Now I’m coming back, a counterattack,
A psychological war
I’m cutting you in, I’m under your skin
Now I’m gonna settle the score
I’ve opened my eyes, I see your disguise,
I will never see you the same
I know how to win, before you begin
I’ll shoot you before you take aim
Won’t stand down
I’m growing stronger
Won’t stand down
I’m owned no longer
Won’t stand down
You’ve used me for too long, now die alone
Won’t stand down
I’m growing stronger
Won’t stand down
I’m owned no longer
Won’t stand down
You’ve used me for too long, now die alone

It's weird to say it, but my brain went "Oh, how I missed Matt's voice!" all of sudden. I love that there's frustration, agression, but I feel hope and courage and strenght from that all as well and that's what I love about it. The lyrics are superior again, with the music sometimes so raw, it's so pleasing yet terrifying. And the video itself? Speaks for itself... What I am trying to say is thank you MUSE, it is so great to see you again, and in full power.

Your profile picture got me thinking. If Camel had such cool clips, they would be popular too. By the way, it has always surprised me that a populist band like Muse hasn't given up on their metal sound. I wish also Matt would sing like his old style.

Reinvent? This song has nothing new, if anything is very repetitive. The chorus resembles so many of their melody, the guitar riff is something we heard over and over again.

Its Metal, not really Heavy Metal but pretty close to it. So this song sits between both genres. Why Matt does this, to reach perfection you must always balance anything you do or anything you decide. The reason he understands it, he is a person who saw through society standards, this is one of many of the correct ways to deal with frustration of knowing you are controlled even if you live in what is suppose to be a free country. How to prove it to yourself is ask yourself if you are in a store and the lights go out, why is there no looting? People govern themselves through morality and no there is absolutely no reason for a government with a hierarchy to exist, all of them have a hierarchy and by that line of thinking is clearly wrong to make rules when you know they can govern themselves. They are creating a need for them to be lazy and not work and own people. Its hidden slavery and black, white, hispanic, asian or any other race are all slaves to a governmental set of rules that are arbitrary when you know people are capable of doing the right thing. They want you to be patriotic so you will be loyal, and I say to that, no way on Earth am I going to let someone control me, I bounced out of it as much as I could so I could eliminate at least a few ways to die, less chance of being murdered because I don't interact with society and less chance of genocide if they don't know you exist anymore. I actually do have a date of death and no I am not going to explain why, I literally come here through a VPN so I remain hidden. The government is just too evil and too shady, they all lie, I do not trust liars. So that tells me they shouldn't exist because they think they can edit your basic human rights and dwindle them down to what they are comfortable with. And people now act that way, like they have a right to safe spaces and pronouns, no they don't a pronoun is a pronoun its an improper noun that a pronoun is needed for, why they actually are not capable of doing that, because its using a pronoun as both to describe and use in the same capacity as the pronoun is use, literally using a pronoun as both a pronoun and adjective, and they are literally too stupid to actually know that because they don't want to due to this being literally the laziest generation to exist. Its always stupid because they don't understand basic English that was taught in 7th grade, thank the "no child left behind act" for that one and Clinton is responsible for that. We stopped teaching the right things and catered, I am a parent with 2 grown kids, what I learned was to never cater because you will give an inch and they will take a mile every time. Why is it that deep, all of their songs are that deep which almost forces critical thinking of a subject while enjoying music. Its one of the best ways to tell someone they are controlled because it non-confrontational. This band made an album called "the 2nd Law" with a song titled "the 2nd law: isolated systems" where the only words heard are "in an isolated system entropy only increases." . What that references is the Conservation Laws of Thermodynamics and the 2nd law reads "in an isolated system entropy always increases." they were entirely correct about that. What that song is getting across is the whole argument over climate change is incorrect, because that deals with temperature, its saying once a system reaches entropy like that it the tries to reach an equilibrium with a parent system. The universe is the parent system of Earth, the sun is expanding, we are not moving further away so the sun will eventually reach an unstable point and explode because its a break even nuclear reactor (scientifically speaking). Its pointless to argue over it, pointless to attempt to stop it, because that time has passed, Al Gore literally tried and failed to get people to listen in the 90's, it would have stopped it then, we did too little too late and Matt here knows that. So these people are extremely smart, all of them. Notice Matt does not play "thoughts of a dying atheist" in concert. The reason, he likely feels its stupid to answer a question with conjecture, he knew he only had conjecture and no longer plays it because it is simply too linear and not a lot of thought. He likes to think but I think he just stays away from telling people why, because he is smart enough to know the reaction to that. He will automatically be accused of going to the other side without hearing his reasoning behind it, what he likely is now, Agnostic. An honest "I don't know" instead of committing to a group of people off of nothing more than conjecture then an assertion. Its simply stupid to not reverse a commitment made when that commitment is a statement of knowing something you can clearly deduce they do not know. That type of thinking is how he is, he is quirky and strange because he is smart, remember Einstein was goofy and awkward socially as well. When you have a high level of intelligence you end up this way. However the down side is knowing there is nothing you can do but participate in a system you do not want to be in. Who can really back out of society and not be actually perused by it, no one. Sounds like the opposite of freedom to me too, which is one of the many reasons I love this band. They actually think about what they are doing. Sorry I explained all of that, I am just forthcoming with information if I know. I know how it comes off is why I am saying "sorry", I simply just can't turn it off. Its a me problem.

@@whatevayalike It's not his opinion, it's how things are. Things do get only worse... naturally. Human are a weird thing in the universe that happens to create low-entropy stuff that otherwise would never ever be present. Silicon doesn't naturally fuse to become a CPU, tons of silicon, calcium and aluminum oxides don't naturally become objects with perfectly perpendicular angles that we call buildings. The way we do it is by creating even more entropy in carbon emissions, junk yards and phosphorus compounds in the ocean, because, well, second law of thermodynamics is a thing. The problem is we don't know if universe is a closed system, whether this battle against entropy will once end up completely useless, and everything ends up as infinite dark wasteland of iron dust and empty space. First we would need to know at least why second law of thermodynamics holds, because there is no known mechanism in quantum physics to enforce it. Current laws have perfect time symmetry, and all the LHC stuff is our very purposeful attempt to find any kind of asymmetry there. While we did not figure out laws of physics on this level, we just suppose we'll find a way to break second law, and that there really is any point in existence of sentient life. The dark side to all of this is that by Fermi estimation we know there has to be a lot of other sentient life around, and we ultimately don't see it. So it might turn out that this war against entropy either way harder than we think it is (all other life forms went extinct due to their alien nuclear war or coronavirus at some point) or they just had time to figure that loss is inevitable and gave up.
@user-yb5cn3np5q

@@whatevayalike When you live your whole life perfectly knowing that any elected idiotic president and every incautious submarine might be that thing that terminates sentient life on this planet, it's very natural to become depressed and anxious. Just never ever give up and do everything you can to let us all survive, that's a primary objective for anyone who is sentient. No matter what multifaceted and warped enemy entropy is, it is your enemy, and in no way we're losing.

I totally agree with you! For me the verse sounds more like the actual Muse while the chorus and bridge sound more like the harder classic Muse. The combination is great and the video rocks.

There was no outro. It ended with the chorus and the tail of the riff. Now that you've mentioned, I think it would have been ever better with a proper 2 minute outro. Would have been even more epic.
@matthewdpavitt

@@justinwakeling8669 that was indeed an outro being that they switched it up midway and changed the drumming. But I agree it would’ve been cool to have a different riff or a heavier/longer outro. Still an incredible song

@@matthewdpavitt I’ll meet u half way and admit it was somewhat of an outro. However, we can both definitely agree that the song is killer. Can’t wait for the rest of the album. Very exciting sound. Rock on 🤘

Plug in Baby and New Born were the first things I learned on guitar. Dead Star got me into Muse, so hearing a banging heavy Muse metal-track is something I've personally waited over 20 years for. Matt's got a knack of making any genre sound like Muse.

The first ever bassline I played was Psycho, funny part I didnt Drop D for like the first 4 days bc i didnt even know you had to and i was a little bit frustrated Xd, so yeah that's how I discovered muse, thought the first time I Herd them I think was when Need for speed 2012 dropped and had Butterflies and hurricanes in its playlist, actually the first song it plays
@ImDrawty
@ImDrawty 2 жыл бұрын
@@trushko8711 I remember thinking 'What's a Drop D' when playing New Born. First time I heard them was a mate in 6th form back in 2002 listening to Plug in Baby from the year before. I was hooked after that. For me Butterflies and Hurricanes is a masterpiece as is that album Absolution. Dead Star sealed it for me, the diversity.
