One little fact - lead singer for this is composer himself (Yu-Peng Chen). He's oftenly played and/or sang in his songs. Before he left the company that is.
@Circe19994 ай бұрын
Actually this track is very special because of this event, Scaramouche is a puppet made by the goddess of Inazuma (Japan), working for Snezhnaya (Russia), and this fight happens in Sumeru (mainly Arabic+Iran+Egypt+India+other middle east and south east Asia). He is a puppet, a container for the "heart of god", the gnosis. This event is the scene where he tries to get a "heart" and ascend to god. Because he is a puppet trying to ascend using technology, the whole boss theme feels electronic. Also, they mixed Japanese traditional instrument in the western orchestral music, Japanese in Latin, like how he was born in Inazuma but stayed in Snezhzaya for hundreds of years.

The thing we are fighting is absolutely gigantic like u can barely touch its feets. The fatui guy is actually inside of it, he's human sized and look like a teenage boy though he's not really human, he's..a prototype puppet created by lightning goddess to replace her but she abandoned him and now after series of different "betrayals" happening to him he wants to destroy humaniry. Im kinda simplifying it down cuz the lore on this character is really deep but think of it as him being finally the god he always wanted to be.

in fact, without playing the game, it is difficult to feel the emotions of this character, although it sounds cheerful, but the song is very sad, it is sung in latin with Japanese. Spoiler: the song is sung on behalf of the character: Scaramouche, the fact is that a very long time ago he was created by the Goddess of lightning, (literally born), but he was not a real person but a doll, he was created in the attempt of the goddess of lightning in order to achieve unchanging eternity, a prototype doll on the way to its achievement, He had to become a receptacle for all the power of the deity, her consciousness and strength embodied in an object called: the heart of God. Only now, since his very creation, he has been crying and was a failed prototype like something that should calmly and unquestioningly obey any decisions of the one who controls the body every now and then, Without thinking for a long time, the goddess and her partner decided to let him go, as if not interfering in his fate, turning off all his functions, and hiding him in one of the dungeons on one island, leaving him a feather as a symbol of the fact that this is the property of the ruler of this country. But time pas he began to move again and was conscious, he pondered for a long time why his mother did this, (he was for about a centurdungeony if not more), and in the end he considered it a betrayal towards him, he thought that she was looking for only power, but considering it useless, she threw it away, even sadder is what is sung in the refrain of the first verse in Japanese: Why did you throw me away on the fifth night (without giving me a name) - in Japan (the region of its creation in the game is its prototype), there is a tradition to give baby name on the 7th day. Scaramouche was abandoned on the 5th day after creation, which means that he was left without a name. After a while, people found him in that dungeon and sheltered him in their community, saying that even though he is different, he is still the same person as they are , but due to a series of outside interventions, the one whom the doll considered the first friend, and many others, died, namely because of the failed mechanism for processing ore on the island (they were all involved in blacksmithing), the mechanism was broken, and the consequences That was expressed as if by a radiation background. Then the doll, without hesitation, went on the very first ship to the residence of the deity to ask for help, but by that time no one could meet her, since she was already in the process of eternal meditation, but met a friend of the deity. The doll witnessed the pen, and the girl said that she would send a detachment of warriors to figure it out, but the doll no longer hoped for anything, he returned to the island alone, and under the influence of the one who arranged the whole trouble, he decided to sacrifice himself by turning off the mechanism from the inside, but surprisingly he survived although he did not save anyone, he considered this a second betrayal. After that, he left the island and after a while he met a little boy who had no parents, and that boy didn’t have a name either, they didn’t have time to give him one, because he decided that the boy was the same as himself, and decided to live with him in a quiet and measured life in a distant house, because he promised the doll that he would stay with him forever, but even then the doll was very complex because she was not a person and did not have the heart she so desired, only the boy was sick, and one of the nights when the doll went to look for something to eat, when he returned he found only a small lifeless body, he considered it the third and last betrayal, he burned the house, bursting into tears with thoughts of self-immolation, but left everything, decided to reject everything human that he has, all emotions, and in his wanderings destroying everything that was connected with the deity and his past in his country, taking the name Kunikuzushi, the destroyer of the country. After a short time, he was recruited as a member of one organization, under the 6th number, and was given the title: Balladeer / Scaramouche and he already worked for them, around the world, but he didn’t know yet that it was this organization that had once caused the malfunction mechanism and the death of his friends, but by the passage of time, having returned to his homeland after 400+ years (the plot will develop there), he got the heart of a god, and according to the plot, he became a god whom we will slay and again take away his heart. Many words in the song itself refer us to great thoughts, and intersect with the tragic past of Scaramouche, in the last sentence it generally says: It would be better if I had not been born into the world at all, (the composition is sung as if from the face of Scaramouche, and Yupen Chen himself performs it - composer of all music in Genshin) of course I said a lot and missed a lot, but even so playing the game, this information will not spoil anything for you, I hope that you read what I told.

That does sound like a tragic tale and I really appreciate you taking the time to share it. Knowing that Genshin's lore and stories are so deep and engaging just makes me want to play it more so I too can gain a deeper appreciation of this incredible music.

Scaramouche story The Balladeerthe Sixth of the 11 Harbringers, also known as Scaramouche and Kunikuzushi ("The Country Destroyer"). Scaramouche was a prototype puppet created to be only a test and a proof of the concept of the creation of indestructible Gnosis bearing puppet. The Gnosis is an item used by the gods to connect to Celestia [heaven]. With his creation accomplished and succeeded, the original plan was for Ei to simply discard him. However, Ei decided not to intervene in his fate, and in the end, she chose only to seal the power within him and set him free after leaving him in a slumbering state. After awakening, he wandered Inazuma an ordinary human male, with his own consciousness, the Fatui not only unsealing his power, but very likely rendering him even more formidable than his original specifications, and as the object of divine creation after that he became known as The 6th Harbringer "The Balladeer". This fight takes place after he has left them and tried to become a false god usibg the gnosis and the help of the Akademiya.

Wanted to point this out about the 2nd phase's name. Its hard to translate but Polumnia refers to the Muse of sacred hymns among other things, but it’s poly + hymn, which already means many/all hymns, plus omnia on top of that. It’s a very dramatic title, almost narcissistically so, which I believe was the idea.

In the first phase, you fight just the upper half of the robot, then it connects to the legs for the second phase. He's a pretty interesting boss - he uses five out of the game's seven elements, which I think is the most we've seen so far.

One little fun fact about this track; The character this track revolves around has a ton of story to explore, and for the sake of keeping this comment from getting super long, I won't get into too many details here. That being said, you may have noticed at around 10:00 and 11:45 there were motifs that don't quite fit the regions you've posted videos for so far. These are motifs that belong to Inazuma, the region inspired by Japan, and though this boss fight takes place in Sumeru, the character himself is from Inazuma originally. You've also mentioned you're a big fan of woodwinds, and Inazuma has those as a main feature in almost every track. I'm confident you'll get a kick out of those. (I will second the suggestions that to complete the harbinger collection, Tartaglia's theme is also a very good listen.)
@GrimGrooves24 ай бұрын
That just makes me even more excited to check out the Inazuma Symphony :D I'll also try to see if i can pick out the motifs that you mentioned from this one.
@12Redsky344 ай бұрын
@GrimGrooves2 I don't remember off the top of my head if the specific motif here appears in Inazuma's main theme, but they definitely appear in an area related to the character (specifically Tatarasuna). That being said, I'm sure you'll notice the instruments used are similar if not the same. Excited to see what you think of the Inazuma music!

I agree with most of the people about the significance hearing this theme with playing the game. Although I love Arlecchino's design and story more, I must say that Scara's boss theme is more touching and shows who this character trully is. He first appears in the game as a toxic bully guy, who seems to be evil. But later in the story, when you discover his whole life up till this point, you begin to sympathize with him. He was so traumatized that he wanted to erase any human emotions. Same thing happened to Arlecchino, but her protective mechanism worked out a little bit different. Tho, their traumas happened because of their "mothers". That's also one thing they have in common. So, continuing my thoughts, Scara's theme at first sounds very ominous and terrifying showing his "bad" and godlike side. But at the end the song transitions to another level. Now you hear his sadness and his origins (the flute you mentioned is Japanese, because, as others said, he was born in Inazuma, a nation that resembles Japan). I remember when this act of the story came out and I finished it... Man, I was obsessed with this theme for weeks
