I think it's important to consider that it's not just 5 people doing what he does. It's also 5 people doing all of the musical accompaniment that he gets from an entire orchestra. I love both for that reason. It's not possible to fully compare 1 singer and an orchestra to 5 people using just their voices. They're both incredible and unique creations.

I like both, but this version is more intimate. It's like he's singing it to you personally. He doesn't believe in mixing and layering in the studio. David Draimen feels that he should sound the same way on the stage as he is in the studio.

David is a classically trained singer. And believe it or not he was ill during this performance suffering with the flu and he still killed it. Best version of this song. Paul Simon contacted him after this live performance and told him that that song is now his. They even put a link to this cover on their social media pages! Can’t get a better compliment than that.

I have watched a lot of reactions to this song, studio and live. I would like to be able to put the video to the audio of the live Conan Show performance with its larger orchestra behind David for a momentous delivery. This one gained a Grammy nomination and has been viewed over 100 million times. There were several people from the audience that night that said the applause and standing ovation lasted about 10 minutes. WOW!

I would love to see you react to a couple of Disturbed's original songs. One is Hold on to Memories, the official live video that is performed at each of their concerts to help people that have lost loved ones. The other is A Reason to Fight, the official live video that is also performed at each concert that is advocating the prevention of drug abuse, depression and suicide. Both are beautiful and touching songs that is another side of this heavy metal band.

David Draiman...a voice to die for! A powerful yet soulful voice that can go from warm baritone to angelic tenor, from clear as a crystal to rasp/distortion/vocal fry and back on a dime, which is incredibly difficult to do and he makes it look so damn easy! He has a timbre in his voice that I've never heard before.....just hauntingly beautiful and pure tonal properties to it! An awesome talent and obvious training to deliver what he does!! Can sing like an angel or the devil ! Loved your reaction and your take on David's performance, and I agree with you 100%...he's got pipes LIVE too!! Try "Deceiver", "The Night", "Indestructible", "The Light", "Enough", "Violence Fetish" by Disturbed too.....they're a bit "heavier".....lol !!

Also Paul Simon agrees with you and many others that this is the best version ever done. One more thing.. if you are going to look into DISTURBED and didn't already know, they are typically a metal band so hold on to your 'ear holes' . If you want another beautiful ballad by this incredible band, listen to their original song entitled "Uninvited Guest" from their REVOLUTION album. I cannot claim there is any version that approaches this. I cannot claim there is a rendition that is in the same universe at this. This is positively religious. The best cover ever done. Maybe the best performance of any song ever. I feel God in this. Everytime. And I have listened to it a hundred times… However….there is another cover of Sound of Silence that did move me done by “Touch Of Class”. And that band, with the lead singer and his voice, has done several covers of other songs that are small miracles in their own way. If you appreciate Touch Of Classes’ version of Sound of Silence like I did, then you might try out their covers of Hallelujah and Mary Did You Know….as well as many others. The voice of the lead singer of Touch Of Class does not quite astound me like this does…nothing does or ever will…but Touch Of Class is certainly worth hearing.

I understand stopping but you have heard the song, you know the song and still you stopped in the wrong places... you should just have let it go start to end and if you didn't have a plan... your second reaction is good and Disturbed has others... please watch your style in the future and if you are listening to a vocalist comment on the voice, if you are listening to music then comment on the presence of a small voiced acoustic guitar... (The Tympani was the star here)

Both versions are great in their own way. The official video is more emotional and personal . In my opinion. This live version showcases David’s singing more and it is beautiful. You should check out their song “Hold On To Memories” for another outstanding and emotional performance.

Yes, he knows his voice inside-out and sideways. He spent the first couple of decades of his life traveling throughout the US and Israel to become a cantor, like his father and his world-famous grandfather. This performance he was so weak from the flu that he was asleep in the greenroom, and they had to help him walk to the chair they put out for him to sit on.

He covered this Disturbed version for Floor Jansen. His version is perhaps not as aggressive, but it was the first time in his long career in opera and musical theater that he was adding grit to his singing. It is said he added that for Floor with just 2 hours preparation time. For me, I like Henk better in some parts and David in others, no clear winner.
