Vlad is absolutely crafting these songs as if it were classical music. If you take out all the distortion on the guitars it might as well be a violin or a cello at times. It's crazy that they have a guy like Vlad in the band. Classically trained pianist playing drums in the most musical way and composing bangers.

I dont think anyone could do a better job at breaking these songs down...other than the band themselves... I feel its pretty evident why they give your channel a shout out. Your ability to catch the time signatures is amazing. I would love to just sit and listen to you and Vlad talk about not only this album, but music in general. I think that would be hella interesting. Once again, another perfect breakdown. Cant thank you enough for doing what you do. Much respect 🤘

Drop to the symphony few parts of classical music, shred some blastbeats, cut and mix unpredictable jazz vibes, and add dissonant spices.. Boil on the syncopated flame for 3 minutes... Jinjer composition is almost ready! No ice, listen again and again, it stays fresh forever.. One of the most obviously classical-influenced music from Jinjer I think, I love almost the violin here..

I was always wondering why nobody notice his huuugeeee impact on band sound, his riffs, his composing skills, capability to fulfil the void being the only guitar in the band...wow, incredible job. I guess I see it because I am a guitarist myself

I had a feeling you'd enjoy this one. It's a constant stream of notes from Roman and his dynamics and phrasings are always in motion. There is a great interview with Tatiana on youtube at 'Charismatic Voice' channel. She mentions that she really struggled with the time signatures, because their music is 'no longer easy to listen to'. When she mimics the guys with 'what... it's easy to count - you just count' (including putting on her nerd glasses), I'm pretty sure she's talking about this song. But as hard as it might have been to come up with, the result is magic. I've seen quite a few reviews of 'Wallflowers' where the negative points mentioned where: - bad production, especially the drum sound - too few hooks, no memorable riffs - 'uninspired vocal melodies' going so far as to explicitly advice the band to use a producer who has experience with metal and pop next time... Yes, the enjoyment of music is a highly subjective thing, but all of these points just make me question if they listened to the same album I did as I cannot comprehend any of those points.

A note about the order of songs when you go for a full album listen. From some of the interviews, Mediator was meant to be a bonus track and As I Boil Ice was meant to be the final track on the album. I saw in an interview with Eugene that they liked the vocal work on the track so much they wanted to include it on the album and released it as a single. They put it as a final track so that it still behaves as a "bonus" song.

And that song should be considered as something you put after Post Scriptum in a letter (in this case album).
@scottmorey6212

That makes so much sense. As I boil ice is a classic 'end of album' track. I wish they added more silence before mediator, not quite as much as the old school bonus tracks but 10s would have been nice.

Wow i'm blown away by this album and the moore you listen the better it gets, + the bonus of your input on some of the moste technical stuff is so great!

The classical influences are all the way through this album and it makes much more sense listening to it in that context. I completely got the Paganini reference once you pointed it out. It’s such complex and difficult music that it’s nice to have some frame of reference.

There are many Jinjer songs that grew on me over time, and this one is among the top "growers", in competion with "Home Back", "Sit, Stay, Roll Over" and "Ape". For the past few months, I can't get the melodies out of my head, and I've revisited this excellent reaction / analysis dozens of times. Thank You!

it's a been a year since I've watched (and immediately liked) your reaction for the first time. I will admit I am stuck on this song. I love your comparison to Paganini. Very appropriate! As you've said you hate using the word, but the juxtapositions between the band and Tati's vocals are beautifully executed, and honestly there is no better way to state this. Beyond that, I've always been impressed with Roman's guitar work, but he honestly blew me away with this one! Tati just does what she does, while Eugene and Vlad lay down this ridiculously complex and groovy background, but Roman really steps forward. This is my current favorite Jinjer track! You provided a FANTASTIC breakdown of this song, so I'm confused by the fact it only has 333 likes at the time I"m posting this.

I feel like I keep repeating myself, but great job breaking down the song :). I'm glad you pointed out the difficulty for Tatiana when composing vocal lines over this music. Tatiana mentioned in an interview about how it's getting harder to write vocal lines over their music as their music is getting more technical. Not many people point that out. She doesn't seem to get the recognition she deserves for the vocal lines. She does a great job. This is definitely one of my more favorite songs on this album. Great melodies and just love the overall flow to the song.

Might be slightly late to this song because I've been absorbing this new album one song at a time. I'd say first few songs of the album was straightforward, "fun" so to speak, i.e colossus, disclosure, copycat. Once you get into Pearls and Swine, this song, it's another journey altogether. I can't help but to smile when you mentioned Paganini, I didn't pick it up at first, was thinking of a Roman arpeggio run. But the parallels to it are uncanny! For not going any longer with this comment, I think if you were to take out Tatiana's vocals from the band, or even the band from Tatiana's melody, you'd probably get something along the lines of a heavy melodic post rock just by how each instrument "sings"! These guys are really defining the genre and at the same time I really appreciate the analysis John! Great stuff all around!

Whenever I feel like something is too heavy for me on a first listen, I read the lyrics, watch live footage of the band playing it and reaction channels like this, that discuss the music in intricate detail, to learn about the song and to familiarize myself with it to appreciate what I didn't understand before. Sometimes you know you will like something once you get it.

@@AlfredSoulthat is actually the case for me with this song. It's so complex and challenging, it hasn't been one of my favorites. I'm coming to appreciate it more. Same with Mediator and As I Boil Ice. Sometimes the last song I get into on an album ends up being my favorite. It just takes longer to appreciate cuz it's so intense. Pausing Death was like that for me.

Wow, another one so soon! For the last one 'As I Boil Ice', I suggest you follow listening to it up with listening to Mediator again. I guess they are related in a way. Actually the album was supposed to be called 'As I Boil Ice' initially, but they picked flower artwork before they came up with the name for the Wallflower song (and album) so they couldn't leave it as "As I Boil Ice" I guess they said that 1 of the tracks was supposed to be a bonus track but turned out to be too good to leave out, and it seems to be Mediator actually, but they wanted the album to finish with the same lines so the last words in both songs are the same simply because of that.

But Mediator works good as a last track actually, like summing things up a bit lyrically, could even work with some Alice Cooper-style theatrics in a way

To me it's Eugene's bass playing that really stands out on the track. Yeah it's probably nothing too hard to play (I don't know I'm not a musician) but that's what really makes this track, and to be honest all of the tracks on this album.

One thing I have come to understand watching your videos is that we count time very differently. You had a song on this album, sorry can't remember which one, where you said it was all in four and I was like. "No, it's in five". I could count it as well in five as in four. Then I thought you're probably right, because you're a better musician than I am, and after that I understood that it doesn't really matter, which just made my head explode. So, to make a long story short, now I am on the other side of the veil carrying my brains around in my pocket, and I am really pissed off that the bandwidth is so bad I can't even post an explanation of what I mean... Still looking forward to the next one, not saying the last, since I hope you give Wallflower another go. ;)

Curious about this analysis, to me this song had that kinda problem that vocals were not 'supported' by guitar, kinda, I mean a lot of stuff's happening right behind the vocal lines, like they just gave Tatiana an instrumental track composed without regard for vocals and were just like "make something out of it", maybe making it actually longer but having something simpler (I dunno maybe it's not complicated but sounds like a lot of stuff anyway) behind vocals and then have the guitar stuff happen would be less 'triggering'.
