Does Andiroo know how Sam & Ren met? Ren was walking by Sam busking & thought his voice was really good. He knew if he had speaker that he would draw more attention so Ren loaned him his speaker. That’s something that I noticed about Ren. He surrounds himself around talented people & he always wants his friends to shine. Have you noticed how many times he sits down or walks off to the side when he thinks it’s their time to be in the spotlight. He’s not greedy for the attention. He seams like such a humble person. At least that’s how I see it.

When I first saw "Hi Ren," I was like, oh this is a masterpiece. Then I sat back and really thought about. I looked up the history of that word, and learned how it didn't just mean something really good, but rather the pinnacle of work from a master who had spent years perfecting their craft. You can see all the different ways in which Ren has put in the work into so many different disciplines, and has really mastered all of them. Then he took all of those years of effort and mastery of different ingredients and mixed them in the pot and came up with the magical brew that is "Hi Ren" and I realized that, yeah, it is LITERALLY a masterpiece. I think pieces like this are just little bits of genius that he was brewing up all that time to add into that pot; and I drank the potion and got high on dude's music and message and so have many others. Peace

The thing about diazepam (aka valium) is that it's intensely addictive. It works very well, but as it wears off has a nightmare of a hangover, which can even cause anxiety to spike worse than before. So this song is about that pattern... and the kind of floaty feeling of the song is how the drug makes you feel.

As a big Ren and Sam fan, i was a little confused about the genius comment, considering where they where then , on the streets, bearing their souls to strangers , which isn't easy when a whole lot of people, not musically minded won't get, to where they are now. That's hard work and dedication. With a touch of GENIUS. ❤️

Busking teaches great stagecraft. It's entirely different from studiocraft. You have to be flexible, you have to be able to keep going when you make a mistake rather than stop for a retake. You have to learn how to deal with bad audiences, indifferent audiences and unexpected interruptions. When I was in Uni one of my teachers told us if we wanted to improve our live performance skills we should go stand on a corner in the city and busk once a week. It was some of the hardest performing I ever did but you learn so much from the experience it's unreal. Also I really hope we get to see Andiroo react to Violet's tale (well the whole trilogy really) for the sick arpeggios and the plucking technique that I have never seen before.

Great to have Andiroo back. I love his insights into the musicality. I hadn't thought of the way Ren's composition has movements but he is so right! Ren said in his Justin Hawkins interview that he had 2 guitar lessons. The rest was KZbin and just messing about until the sounds he made fit the shape he wanted the music to be in his head.

I think it can be genius to know which moments less is more. I feel like he is always recognizable-always surprises me but never disappoints. When I find myself resisting something of his during a first listen - I usually just have listen a time or two again to realize it was me tensing in the face of the unfamiliar. I am not a musician though but his work just hits on a emotional level - lyrics and tole frisson. His work just resonates with me

This is one of my favourite Ren tracks. I always think of it as a "sister" to Chalk Outlines in that it deals with the "numbness" that anti-depressants can often leave you with (plus the potential addictive qualities of them). Ren doesn't preach, he just shares his truth from his own experience, and he doesn't sugar coat it. (I guess he may have blown his chance to appear on Diazepam commercials !)

Thanks for another great reaction BP and Andiroo. That’s the great thing about Ren - his work gets people to open up and discuss things that many find it difficult to address - songs like Diazepam and Blind Eyed are both beautiful songs but their subject matter is one that affects so many people. Think you should definitely get Andiroo back again to cover the Jenny & Screech trilogy. Other songs I think would be cool to over - Heretic, Everybody Drops. An early one called Jessica - great thing about the video to that track is it gives a small insight into Ren at work. Maybe get Andiroo to cover Animal Flow? Think it would also be cool to see Andi and Ren geek out over production when you interview Ren. So pleased that there will be a BP and Ren interview soon 🔥🔥

May already be somewhere in the comments, but the story of how Ren met Sam is amazing… Sam was alone, busking, but without a mic or speaker.. Ren walked by, stopped and liked what he heard. He set up his equipment and let Sam use it.. their friendship started from there. FYI.. diazepam is the generic name for Valium which is not used too much anymore bc there are newer versions that are somewhat?? Less addictive (but they’re all bad). That said.. for some people who have severe, crippling anxiety - it works and helps them be able to function/get some sleep. It’s fairly tightly regulated.. but theoretically so is fentanyl.. and we know what that’s doing to WAY too many people these days!
@amymbeauty8765
@amymbeauty8765 Жыл бұрын
That's a really sweet side story. I always wondered their friendship started as. And yeah Diazepam can be horrible stuff if used improperly. Funnily enough, I had to take it a few hours ago at the dentist because I absolutely hate the dentist and get major anxiety from it. It's the only time I would even ever consider taking it. Although oddly, even with the dose they gave me, it barely affected me lol.

For me the best part of "Diazepam" is the last line in the verse right before Ren starts his guitar solo because it's so sick if you understand how both parts, the lyrics and the sound of the guitar solo go together. So the last line of that verse goes, "And my face it feels swollen Anaesthetic I block that emotion" We all know anesthesia makes you numb so you won't feel anything. Diazepam, Valium, Xanax all benzos make your feelings and emotions muted. You're numb to it all. You don't get happy and excited and you don't get down and depressed. You're a muted, toneless zombie that's hanging out right in the middle. Ren purposely made his guitar tone more flat and muted on that solo. He didn't want a tone that was bright and airy, or too low and depressing. It's right there in the middle, flat, muted and emotionless. Just like how we are when we chemically alter our emotions.

I discovered you from your Ren reaction videos, new subscriber. Thanks for all of those. I love the insights into the music industry and music itself from you and your friends/guests. From what you've said, I guess I live pretty close to where you're at, and I wasn't aware that there was much of a local music scene here. But to be fair, I'm an old fart and grew up long before hip hop and rap, (but we did have Motown and gospel music). I'm planning to watch your other reviews and yes, your own stuff, but I'm going to stay on the Ren Rollercoaster a bit more first. I can't help with the donations, living on social security. Please keep doing what you do, it's important - I mean if you reached me, I'm sure you're reaching others. You're changing hearts and minds, sir, and keeping us entertained.

Standards of living, opportunities, social programs keep dropping, expectations & corporate profits keep flying. We are divided, over worked, exhausted, hiding in our shells in survival mode. We are powerless to change things that desperately need to change. We & our planet are living on borrowed time. Over farming in the name of profit has robbed our foods of nutrients, empty calories fill the shelves. Healthcare in the states is unaffordable & often ineffective. & that's all just tip of the iceberg why mental health issues are so high.

Thank you both for a great reaction and discussion worthy of having, Ren is amazing talent, his rawness I think is what brings so many people in, people are tired of the same ole same ole corporate music that has taken over human ability in nature and people Like Ren and others are bring it back. I believe this trend will continue as the old system dies as it should in many ways, the Entertainment Industrial Complex is old and out dated, it's run it's course and now its time to get down to reality with honest music that comes from the soul not machines. we live in some exciting times, while many challenges lay ahead for humanity, I can feel and see the shift that will only grow from here and Ren and many like him are the path setters of this bot new era but reinvented perhaps..

It really hit me when you spoke about your mom having and fighting Cancer for 15 years before it took her. My mother fought it for 10 years before she passed. I miss her. I want to give you a hug. Peace and respect.

Love your reactions. Love Ren. Love music in general. Thought I would just let you know, in case you haven't seen/heard, that Sam Tompkins just released a new song called See Me. It's beautiful.

Ren's genius is partly his creativity and his bravery not to be confined by conventional "rules" of music but also (like all great artists) in the choices he makes. You can have every weapon in your arsenal but you have to know how and when to use them. The greatest artists can make the simplest things have huge impact because they understand why they are putting that element there at that precise moment.

I think genius is often when the idea sounds like it can never work, then not only does it work but it’s amazing.

There's so many different kinds of genius though,in so many different genres. You? Know what I mean?

I could not agree more! "Ren keeps us talking - and that´s what true artists do". But as a cancer survivor myself - at least so far - who is dealing with some mental issues as result of deterriorating health etc. - I may add to this conversation that every cure comes with a cost - be it physically or mentally or both - because there is simply no medication or substance (even herbs etc.) that has no side effects. The task is to find ones INDIVIDUAL fine line where treatment is sufficent enough and the lasting "costs" (side effects) are still endurable. It may take month or even years to find this fine line for one self .... And i think that´s excactly what Ren is doing. He talks about his individual journey - what works for him and what doesn´t - That´s why his work is so tight and amazingly relatable - just GENIUS in my eyes! BUT despite beeing relatable I don´t think it is helpful to take his points LITERALLY as a sort of universal truth ... nothing what he says spares us from undertaking that painful and almost unbearable journey ourselfs ... but it is so EMPOWERING to see that he obviously overcame so many low points and did NOT give in/give up .... (pls excuse my insufficient knowledge of English - I hope you get the idea)

Thank you for continuing to react to Ren's work: both simply sharing it and breaking it down. Ren reminds me that I'm not the only one feeling this way - all mixed up. "Self-destructive healing". I LOVE that he wrote a song about diazapam (and that you didn't know what it was). I get it - or at least my version of it. Peace.
