That was a great breakdown Ronin. Now for an even bigger treat try and get the PUZZLE electric and acoustic (Saiki and Kanami only) both Live. Add the studio for a top notch trifecta. That's the way to do it. You know it will be worth it because BAND-MAID is Awesome at everything they do. Peace. 1.39

Akane on bongos? Interesting idea🪘🦍🪘 She actually used a cajon for one song, FORWARD, in this acoustic concert. It was super good, and Akane also loved it!

This comparison gives you just a glimpse into Kanami's arranging genius. She truly is a master, and this is not even close to the best example of her converting a song into acoustic. This show included songs that are normally hard rockers (HGK and No God), and a blistering anime opener (Different) into songs that might have well been completely different songs - and both versions of these songs are fantastic. Kanami uses those rod sticks throughout most of the set, so she can play relatively normally without being too loud in an acoustic setting - and she got to play a cajon during the show too. (priceless). This show was the best Christmas gift ever - airing on Christmas day. There is nothing these maids cannot do. Another really great acoustic of theirs is Smile, as well as the classic pair of songs done during the Zepp Tokyo show, Puzzle and Anemone. If you can get these past the copyright cops, they are great - and Puzzle is another song with both a crazy (and I mean CRAZY) good electric version and a gorgeous acoustic version.

My favorite acoustic song from Band-Maid is "Smile". Saiki sings so incredibly good and emotional in it and always brings one or two tears to my eyes 🙂

Good reaction! Akane borrowed a cajón for this concert and played at least one song on it, she said she liked it but it was expensive. There is an old video where she also played the cajón. The acoustic version of Catharsis was closer to the original than most of the songs they played. Some were paired down to just two or three members. Miku also played lead guitar and sang lead on a couple songs. Kanami has an amazing ability to take hard rock songs and convert them into great acoustic songs. She took the face-melting song Puzzle and turned it into a heart-melting acoustic song.

Yes, double headers are great, mainly with acoustic comparisions (you may want to do the same with their song Puzzle). The album CONQUEROR seems to be underrated even amongst some Maidiacs, which is a shame as it's a cracker of a gem (yes "The Dragon Cries" too!)... And that Christmas acoustic concert was an absolutely flawless exquisite beauty (make sure to watch it -Chinese site Bilibili🤐 and buy the CD)....oh and in that my Queen just showcased what a world-class vocalist she is🖤💙

I just don't rate Conqueror super high personally and not because "The Dragon Cries" as I think that one is ok (even though the production of the album certainly has something to do with it). There just are a lot of songs on there that are of the slower variety, which is just not my thing in general. I agree that there are some great songs on there, but I had a really bad first impression with that album when I just started getting into Band-Maid. I really don't like the first song (Page), especially the beginning of the song. I have never been a huge fan of that type of vocal effect which reminds me of old radio pop songs and it left a bad taste in my mouth. I have gotten more into the album over time and I am not as annoyed by some of these songs as before, but some of them would still be really low on my Band-Maid song ranking. But it also includes songs that are high up that list as well and one of the slower ones at that. Wonderland is for sure among my favourites as is 輪廻/Rinne. That being said, while half of the songs of the Christmas acoustic were among my least favourites (a lot of them from Conqueror actually), I do think they all worked really well in that setting. Band-Maid did an excellent job converting all these songs into acoustic versions. The original Catharsis was one of the songs I was ok with from Conqueror, but after listening to so many people reacting to the acoustic version, it sounds way too quick and I prefer the acoustic for sure. I think the Christmas acoustic is actually my favourite Live show by them in general. I would love to be able to buy it on a blu-ray.

The acoustic concert was one of the few times MISA used the click track as Akane's drums weren't loud/hard enough for her to feel, plus they made her wear shoes for this concert.

Thanks, Ronin. Excellent move to do the two songs together. The original version of Catharsis has a sense of continuous movement, even urgency, with lines weaving in an out, particularly with Kanami's slashing commentary toward the end. The acoustic has more of the feel of calm after the storm: at the end, Saiki sings "Remember / No worries / No night lasts forever."

Well, finally someone who has compared both versions. Thanks for that! I thought it was really good and wish more people would do the comparison like that. And now that you've successfully finished primary school with this song, it's time to move on to higher grades, isn't it? 😁 You'll successfully finish middle school with the song 'Smile', and you'll get your university degree with the songs 'Puzzle' and 'Anemone'. :) The latter two are performed in an even more minimalistic way and are nevertheless, almost heartbreakingly, beautiful. I'll send you more information by e-mail. Thank You and Greetings from Germany. _____________________ 「 _'Our rock never dies ever. Forever!'_ 」 --- from *BAND-MAID* 'Manners' 🕊️

A 2fer of Puzzle. I describe Puzzle live version as the anger after a break up and Puzzle acoustic as the pain after a break up . There's more meaning to the song then that though. Sayonakidori the same concert Akane has her singing debut.

MISA's thumpy electric bass was, in my opinion, the perfect choice for this accoustic setting, as was Akane's choice of brushes. It all balances really well to make the sound smooth and full.

The album this song is off of is their poppiest album, CONQUEROR. It's my favorite because of this. Most of the songs on the album have a very happy rock/pop sound that I think is just superb. Great reation BTW!! I love a double header for these things.
@MaartenT
@MaartenT 2 жыл бұрын
That might actually be it why this album doesn't click with me personally. I never really thought about it like that. It's the "happy" sound in a lot of Japanese rock and metal bands choruses which I am not a huge fan of and a lot of the songs on this album are also of the slower more "poppy" variety. That doesn't mean I can't listen to their music, I do consider myself a Band-Maid fan and I like some other bands as well who have similar style of choruses. I always described it as "epic" sounding choruses for the power metal bands and "poppy" choruses for bands like Band-Maid and Gacharic Spin. It always reminds me of Dinsey/Cartoon songs and they never did it for me either. But you are exactly right, it's because them changing to major a lot of times which makes it sound happy and tends to make it sound cheesy in my mind. The fact that I listened to harsher metal for the last 10 - 15 years probably doesn't help with that. I typically am enjoying their verses and I am getting used to the choruses more and more over time, but they are still my least favourite part of a lot of the Japanese female bands. So I personally would rank this album probably 4th or 5th by them overall even though it contains some great songs (Rinne, Wonderland, Bubble) and some that I really like but are not as high up for me (Blooming, glory). There are certainly some others that I enjoy as well. But it might also be the Band-Maid album that has the most songs I really don't like that much (with the exception of Maid in Japan). Edit: I do agree with you on the double header reactions. One of my favourites is Puzzle for this. I absolutely love the acoustic version and the album version and Live version are great as well.

@@MaartenT the strange thing is I typically gravitate towards metal like Opeth, Gojira, LoG, Metallica, and Trivium. Sure some of those aren't extreme metal, but they are heavy. Something about this albums sound still clicks with me though. Maybe it's because I did also grow up with pop punk like Paramore and MCR.
@MaartenT
@MaartenT 2 жыл бұрын
@@gradyshmalady8284 Yeah, that would make sense. I have listened to punk rock in the past (NOFX, Propagandhi, Dead Kennedys, ...), but never to the more well known radio pop punk bands as I was already starting to listen to metal around that time. I was probably born 5 years or so too early to have been fully in that era when I listened to punk a lot. A lot of of Band-Maid's music certainly has a pop punk vibe. That goes especially so for their earlier material, but even now. The Blooming chorus just screams pop-punk to me. I can also completely understand why people love this album. It just focuses a bit more on the side that I like a little less, but that doesn't make me think it is bad or anything like that. And to be honest, part of it is that I got a disappointing first experience with it when I first listened to the album. I mainly knew Unseen World songs and World Domination songs before listening to this one and Page threw me off and really left a bad taste in my mouth back then.

Nice reaction. And for some acoustic I would go to Puzzle (live + acoustic), Anemone (Studio + accoustic) or Smile. They should be on bili bili. Ask your discord people, they should know how to find them. But I suppose this kind of videos could attract some kind of strike from their agency.
