Here's a little more about the meaning of the song and it's references: *HOW YOU LIKE THAT* is about coming back from a dark place stronger than before. There are many Greek references in the video, a few examples are: The winged statue in the temple represents Nike, Goddess of Victory. Rosé (silver hair), in the beginning, is portraying Persephone, Goddess of Vegetation (plants, flowers) and the daughter of Zeus. One day while she was out gathering flowers, Hades, God of the Underworld, abducted her and dragged her down to the Underworld where she was forced to become his wife. The video shows her in her beautiful image, surrounded by flowers, as well as how she became, dirty and grey, staring up at the world through a hole in the Underworld. She was eventually allowed to return to the surface for part of the year, which is why we have Spring and Summer. Jennie (maroon dress) under the umbrellas is surrounded by dancers, their hands are "spiders", crawling over her face. Directly after this, under the burning umbrellas (they're rotating too, by the way), Jisoo is seated in a chair that is spiderlike in its design. The Trojan Horses at the end are a message from BLACKPINK to the world. They symbolize the fact that BLACKPINK, like the Greeks, will emerge and take over the global music world (the song was part of their album BORN PINK, their first album released worldwide after they signed with Interscope/UMG for management outside Asia). If you look at the last scene you will notice that on the inside of the dome it looks like there's an organic growth over parts of the ceiling. It's actually a map of the world that the group is going to dominate!

HYLT is just quintessential Blackpink. I’ve always thought this song in particular perfectly encapsulates what Blackpink is all about, that is the hard, edgy attitude (black) contrasted nicely with the more soft and vulnerable side (pink) It’s a running theme in their discography Plus the choreography for Lisa’s rap part is just so good to me lmao

Good reaction. This video gets crazy deep by Western Standards. You seem to care about understanding the messages they are trying to convey. So here goes. This is not about a love interest, it is one big FU to all their haters, and they have many. Numerous Kpop idols have been driven to suicide by hateful social media attacks. Each one of the members of Blackpink have been targeted for hate early on after debuting. "Look at You", you are a worthless, hateful, ugly creature that adds nothing but darkness and spite to this world. "Now Look at Me", I am beautiful, talented, successful, providing inspiration to my fans, hope for those that are in terrible situations that men like you have put them in. There are at least 5 KZbin videos that analyze this video, my favorite is "British Priest reacts to Blackpink How You Like That", where a Cambridge graduate in Greek mythology goes scene by scene discussing the symbolism in Greek mythology. Each of the members plays a different daughter of Zeus that in Greek mythology experienced horrendous tragic experiences, but triumphed in the end. Rose (being lowered on a bed of flowers) is channeling Persephone, who was abducted while picking flowers and dragged to hell and forced to marry Hydes (the lord of the underworld, basically the Devil). The video starts with each member being a victim, but they endure and by the end they become victors, transforming into the mythical Furies, winged female creatures leashing out revenge on cruel men that have terrorized them. The wings you see in the background are those from Nike, Goddess of Triumph.
