I love that Doll$boxx just can't be bothered to stick to just one genre or style 😅 their ability to blend and mix sounds is unmatched

I love what a different vibe this is - in the live version you get a beautiful piano intro bonus - really do recommend you check out some live stuff too - seeing Hana do the rap vocals with drums live is just immense - definitely one of D$B highlights for me.

The rap part with it's chord choices is the absolute highlight of the whole album for me. Interestingly enough most people don't hear, that this part is actually sung in english LOL The whole song is masterfully constructed and has such beautiful melodies from start to finish. And kudos to whoever got Fuki to reign in her vibrato on this album. Cheers :)

My comment was blocked for having link to lyrics 😖 Love Fuki’s lyric writing in general, think she gets the credit in DB, but gotta wonder about the English/rap parts, Fuki? Hana? Ghostwriter? Translator with good sense of humor? Fragrance: Inside this closed-off room I try to open this unseen, sealed lid The memories are a little chilly And I always catch cold Rap, in English (surely double tracked with speaking and distorted scream) [ Know know what you said I'm in love love love Never never nevermore stop stop stop P-p-p-p-passing over L-l-l-l-little longer Just l-l-l-l-l-like a baby Sorrow in my head Leave me alone-lone-lone Clever-clever Missing your behind L-l-l-l-lie came closer N-n-n-n-night is over Is my pain healed as time goes by ] You’re beyond me; even though I know my own path My heart won’t recognize it, and even now This one fragrance of the two of us. We shared so much, so why... Hey You’re not here The breeze once carried that scent, but it’s vanished without a trance Only I’m left behind You hated pictures, huh? It’s a good thing that the heart can’t project, as you said I definitely haven’t thrown you away Know know what you said I'm in love love love Never never nevermore stop stop stop P-p-p-p-passing over L-l-l-l-little longer Just l-l-l-l-l-like a baby Sorrow in my head Leave me alone-lone-lone Clever-clever Missing your behind L-l-l-l-lie came closer N-n-n-n-night is over Is my pain healed as time goes by You, straight down your wrists, to your feet, drift about In my memory, inside myself, refusing to cry, I keep you here Chairs and glasses for two There’s no other person anywhere who I’ll love instead of you It’s a lie that I’m lonely, I have no regrets, and What I’ll tell you… If I get through this winter, Someday, from my heart… You, who’s far away, and the one you love… I’ll wish you happiness. Little by little it’s erased, little by little I forget… That one fragrance of the two of us Nothing changes, but even so Hey You’re not here The breeze once carried that scent, but it’s vanished without a trance Only I’m left behind

I've noticed that it's in English, but still to this day I have question on what Fuki meant by "Missing your behind" 🍑😂
@timgove5337 Жыл бұрын
@@v01dal Hehe I love that line. Referring someone as their butt or behind, perhaps saying “get your butt over here”, can be done Cutesy semi-intimate, almost babytalk. That’s how I read it 🤷♂️
@amiwolf8117 Жыл бұрын
@@v01dal My interpretation of the "behind" is, that she is missing things from the past (that are behind). ofc I also get a chuckle out of the wording every time I return to the song :D
@v01dal Жыл бұрын
@@amiwolf8117 Yeah, it could be "missing the past with you" or something like that. Maybe Fuki should've consulted with the GS team on English lyrics, I feel like English lyrics in GS songs make sense most of the time compared to most Japanese bands 😄.

Nice reaction guys! Yes, please continue with their EP once you finish this album. I believe there are 5 music videos on Victor Entertainment's KZbin channel. I don't believe there is a Playlist. With that being said I'll drop my recommend order when you get to the last video for this album 🤘😊🤘

That rap part is definitely the highlight of the song 😄Now whether you call it super group or just a side project, I think it doesn't really matter, music speaks for itself. With DB they got something special going on, not only they changed their sound quite a bit, but also with DB they somehow managed to get signed to a major label and release full length album before Gacharic Spin 😄 On a side note, maybe after reacting to the whole album you could pick your favorite(s) songs and check their live versions, it's definitely worth a watch, they shine even more during live performances.

I agree with that comment at 2:29 on the rap part, especially live. I grew up hating rap, gradually learnt to tolerate it as an adult, but this was the first song that I wanted to listen to repeatedly specifically for the rap part.

The weird chord in this song is actually the same trick that you caught in Baku Baku. I could explain it kind of multiple ways, might be a lil dense. I can’t recall specifically, but my gut tells me they used the trick in a prior song when original singer Armmy may have been writing too. Or maybe it’s TomoZo’s chord?, think it’s in the song Roulette (Armmy era, pre DB) which had a “side project” of its own (TomoZo’s signature effect pedal to replicate the sound used in her solo) The trick, Fragrance version: Fmin Fmin Db Bb, Fmin Fmin Db A So by going down 2full steps (to min6), sounds sad. But the trick is do it again from there. (See also: “Augmented”.) Yes, you get sad^squared, but it (A) is also 2full steps up from the starting point, which is a) out of key, and b) should sound happy?! So it’s a magical music trick that screws with your subconscious. In every instance they combine with another more common trick: the half step up from start (min1, Gb), which is also found in the riff of Loud Twin Stars, in GS’s first song/hit LockOn (Koga wrote before band formation), in half the metal songs ever written, in modes like Phrygian, Arabic, etc, and emphasized early in the soft part of Fragrance with an awesome (if seemingly out of place, then later conspicuously missing ?!) cello swell ?! of all things. Love their creativity, which has to be all of them, possibly underrating Oreo, but know Hana was largely responsible for arrangements and production coordination Don’t know if you can react to non KZbin vids. Don’t even know if I can list them here! But awesomely different GS vid, from their (5th year’s?6th?) dvd (a year or two after DB). Called the Zepp Medley, its earlier GS1 era songs, including Roulette, worked into a somehow more metal yet more dancey style. Trigger warning, Lots of backing tracks, but just highlights their diversity (they closed the same show with my fav punkish performance of Broken Lover, 2015 I’m thinking?) and awesome live production. And I realize now how “Fragrance-like” it is 😎 Site: dailymotion Vid code: /video/x391dm7 (medley is the first 5:37 of that clip)
@amiwolf8117 Жыл бұрын
You are correct, they used it on Roulette (em G C Ab) Roulette sounds to me, like it was written mostly by Tomo-Zo, since most of it is driven by the guitar riffs and also the implemention of her then new toy "Roulette". Afaik Armmy didn't write any music, she wrote a lot of the lyrics, did the artwork and maybe she was in part responsible for the melodies. Never found a lot of info about their composing process in the early days. I second your request for the Zepp Medley, it's just such an awesome performance. It's just a pity, that it's not available in HQ :(
@timgove5337 Жыл бұрын
I’ve always wondered about Armmy. Certainly the creative artist type, and could play keys. And songs like Setsunaku have such complex harmonies, well, ya, I wonder if she contributed, or was just shown what to sing/play. Remarkable enough that she could perform it, just curious who’s having the ideas. And the reuse of this chordal trick is very distinctive, should get its own credits 😉

I think the spacing in “fragrance” might reflect what you see when Roman characters into a Japanese word processor, as Japanese uses mono-spaced typesetting based on a grid designed to for kanji, which each occupy a square space. It makes for funky-looking English words.

I don’t understand why are you concerned with pegging every song to some pre-existing music sub-genre. The best thing about Japanese Pop music is that it sounds different than what we are used to hearing. Actually, the music of DOLL$BOX is quite different than that of GACHARIC SPIN. This side project gives each of the ladies a venue to express a different musical voice.

That's how people understand new things, by comparison with prior knowledge. Attempting to describe music without referencing other music is a pointless activity, unless you're going to approach it from a purely technical angle (which would be beyond most people's understanding). I like hearing what other people pick up on in the music and the comparisons it generates. 🙂
