Most others on stage have decades worth of experience doing things like this, don't think I've seen any Polyphia shows where they invite virtuosos on stage and battle. @@JiggleBill their music has no solos, save for when they bring in someone else to do them like in Nasty, so it shouldn't be much of a surprise. I think improvisation simply isn't something they've worked on that much as opposed to playing interesting riffs and melodies. They're very creative musicians, but they're better as composers/performers than as improvisers. Which isn't bad, many classical musicians are amazing at what they do but have no idea about improvisation either. They might get better if Vai keeps bringing them on stage though hahaha.

Paul's playing has evolved the most IMO. He can pretty much improvise any melody, and it always sounds tasty. Vai and Satch haven't deteriorated at all, of course, but their playing still sounds the same as it did 30 years ago. And yeah, the Polyphia guys just need experience. Judging from the recent Twitch streams with Herman Li, Tim has improved a lot when it comes to improvisation.

No wonder I wanted to the Satriani ibanez JS model series model all those years ago when I wanted to take guitar more seriously as a young guitarist. The guy is truly something special and his style is so discernible from all the rest. He really is one of the greatest progressive guitar players ever. That solo performance was beautiful to listen to, unique phrasings and guitar tricks that were even blowing the minds of those other great guitarists on stage.

Polyphia will continue to change modern guitar , while the greats will always be top notch for what they have put into the instrument 🤘with that said my fave was Gilbert’s solo ! Then vai, I really liked Tim’s and Nita’s as well . So there’s my opinion. Do what you see fit with it ❤️🤘🤘joes was cool to ofc!

@@azraelblick4117 I myself feel "rhythmically challenged" as a player. I have to practice playing with a metronome, with licks, funk rhythms, everything. When I don't for a couple weeks, I have trouble locking into the groove in a relaxed manner. Knowing this about myself, I see this as Nita's main problem. She gets out of time, her groove is always off. Like more interested in putting on a visual show than feeling the groove, playing along to the groove, and letting the groove move her body. Maybe practicing strumming some 16th note funk rhythms an hour a day for a week could work wonders for her. That can also help with the sloppiness, when both hands know where the groove is at all times. Funk rhythm guitar is ultimate discipline, then comes metal down picking rhythms for discipline with a burning forearm. Even her visual show, total body moves look awkward and forced...not feeling the groove. Not trying to be a hater, just that I live this myself and I can really see it in her.
