I just don't understand one thing, Why do some people give you a thumbs down on your videos. It just don't make any since what so ever. Is it because you are trying to sale your music classes on here? If you are good at something, might as well try to make something off all your efforts and hard work. I know you play because you love it also, cause you have a lot feeling in your playing. I've been watching your videos for a few months and got to say....you're an excellent guitar player and teacher. If I have the extra cash I would by your guitar course, But not now. but anyway I'm glad I subscribed to your channel. Rich

I always thought a 9th, 11th, or 13th was deemed as such because of inclusion of a 3rd and/or a 5th. For example, a Dsus2 is called a Dsus2 because it doesn't have a 3rd. If the 3rd was included, it'd be a DMaj9 ... the basic Dsus2 chord in open position is DADE, and its not called DMaj9 even though the E is above the octave. I guess what I am saying is that just because a certain note is above the first octave doesn't mean its a 9th (or 11th or 13th), it depends on the what other notes are included as to whether it is one of those or if it is a suspended chord (sus2, sus4, 6).
@joaquinrodriguez4982

Nice video and chords, but I hope someone could answer me this questions about intervals. That "3rd mayor" you play is beyond the first octave so shouldn't it be called 10th or something like that? Also the 9th you play in the last jazzy chord is after the 13th, so i think it should be like the 15th. Im sure im wrong, so someone please explain me :P

Why do you take the 11th on 5th fret b instead of open string e? is there a reason for this?
@serginhosena
@serginhosena 7 жыл бұрын
I undertand that we call 3rd for that note you ponit in the video, but truth is, that note is also beyond the octave of the root. Shouldn't that be some degrees above?( i mean only in it's name) Great lesson! Love those chords! Especialy the first one! =)
@sidgtagamer
@sidgtagamer 7 жыл бұрын
Great lesson and killer licks as always. I can only imagine the time and effort you have put in the instrument. Much Love. BTW just a trivia question..why dont we call that 9th in the third chord a 16th(C#5) as its more than two octaves up from the root(B3). xD (I guess that would make the whole naming system a lil' hairy but curiosity you know :D )

***** Unless your bills/financial situation simply won't allow it. It's very difficult, or even impossible, for some people to save money (ever heard the term 'living hand-to-mouth')? Yes, there are long term ways to solve that problem, but I'm just speaking in generalities. And, of course, we all know musicianship at any level is not a cheap hobby.
@Quazi-moto

***** Also, what's special about the age 24? Or is that just a number you picked out of the air?
@Quazi-moto
@Quazi-moto 7 жыл бұрын
***** Well, I'm not saying I was completely unable to save ANYthing. But a lot of the times I'd have a nice chunk saved and then some costly something would happen, a la car repairs, medical bills, moving, stupid things like food, and so on. And I ask you: Is there ANY hobby more expensive than having a girlfriend? That's rhetorical; I know there isn't. Then I became gun-shy, afraid to spend the money on the damned thing I saved up to buy. So I had to save even more for a cushion. I'm not saying I never was able to save what I needed... it just took a lot longer than I wanted -- which is the same for everyone, I imagine. And then I'd have to start the process all over again to save for the next lil goodie. What I *AM* saying (took the long route didn't I? hehe) is that it would be cool to have the money you need, plus the money you can spend on toys, both at the same time and at all times. Then you could have all the cool toys you wanted when you wanted them. But hey, it sounds like you were forced into some serious malarkey at a too-young age. Also sounds like you managed to kick some major ass, even while partying (like a typical youngster), which shows you still had your head screwed on straight. Always admirable, but especially so if the person is as young as you were. I had the same low-end Warlock for 27 years before the financial timing allowed me to FINALLY get a nice guitar -- got a matte black LTD EC-1000... a real beaut. About 20 months later, I added a mid-level Fender strat. But during those 27 years I did have 3 amps, a couple pedals, and/or processor. I probably spent $250 on picks every month because they would disappear every time I set one down. Twice I had one disappear *while* I was playing.

Malfurion I used to love smoking weed and getting high but I too never did it for the right reasons...if there is a real right reason at all. I smoked from 14-28 and I'm 32 now and I haven't smoked in years. Never felt better. I too am a musician. Pretty good guitar player if I say so myself. I transferred from regular university to a music school ( conservatory ) to study jazz guitar which was awesome. My best friend died in a motorcycle accident when I had one semester to finish so I know about hard times too. But trust me bro, the way you say the world around you makes you get high, I was there and the second I stopped everything seemed way less negative than I thought. Probably because weed brings you down and takes your natural energy away and then when it wears off your serotonin levels plummet and depression settles in. Dumbest thing I ever did was downplay weed not being like other drugs ( which I've done plenty of ) or not bad for you. Trust me now that I'm clean for about 5 yrs I look back and see how fucked up i was. Smoking before rehearsal and gigs was a routine but now I would never think of it because bro when you stop your playing gets sooo much better. It's like all the ideas I had about playing manifested. Last year I was at a party and I thought it had been long enough and I took a few rips of a bong, long story short it wasn't anywhere near as " great " as I thought it once was. And when I went home and played, I was slow. I could still rip but I was nowhere near as polished or musical. Quit weed and join a gym. You'll be naturally high all the time and stinger arms really help with your playing.

I always wonder how so many people can improvise on guitar whether it be jazz or blues or rock. I've played the guitar since I was 14, I'm 30 now and i cant even write on guitar let alone improvise. I can play really intermediate stuff like fall of troy and Lindsey Buckingham. I had lessons from a great guitar player too, the theory stuff just never made sense, it was like he was speaking Russian or something. So what gives? Am I just destined to be a copy cat or what, because let me tell ya, only learning other people's music loses its charm after awhile.

I didn't hear anything that sounds remotely bluesy. And typically in minor blues the 5th is a variation of a dom7 (w/#9 for example). Take all the effects off and roll back the delay and you might have a sound blues players might go for.
