The clean tones: I say they are all very equal. The JPX, of course, has the most variety with the 5-way switch. The rhythm tones: JPXI has the most punchy sound out of the 3. The JP12 has a very warm, rounded sound to it vs. the JPXI having a very strong attack with an edge. The JPX is more hollowed out in this context juxtaposed to the other 2. The lead tones: JPX has a very bubbly sound that comes alive. The JPXI has a very strong attack (as mentioned before), and cuts through very well. The JP12 is, once again, very warm, and rounded. All 3 are absolutely incredible guitars. Nice video!

definately the JPX with chambered the most versatile instrumental also with beautifully black hardware.

when talking about guitars this good, choosing the best is mostly a matter of personal taste. Said that having played both the 11 and 12 i chose the 11, because i found it thighter for rythms and just as good for leads. i'm of the idea that a small difference in warmth can be compensated with the eq, while is much harder to add tightness. but the difference is minuscule all in all, and my choice was made on the finish too. I love dark colors

For me, Clean: JPX Riff: JP12 Lead: JPX The best comparison video of these models by far!
lol and people say wood doesn't matter in guitar. The difference is blatantly obvious in these guitars. All beautiful instruments sonically and visibly. You've got got some great tone man.

Nice review! I personally love 10 >12 >>>11. But I think some of the setting changes also related to the change of their music style year over year.

JP12 is definitely the most solid and tight sounding, and that signature hum tone in the neck pickup up high on the neck is stronger. Probably the Basswood. Alder (JPX & JP11) is brighter but doesn't sound as solid or tight.
@JonathanAmaralMusic11 жыл бұрын
The JPX is extremely open and airy, it sounds less articulate for it's rhythm. The JPXI and JP12 are extremely similar, but the alder just makes the XI sound tighter, and the basswood makes the 12 sound warmer. They're both much more articulate for rhythms. Lead wise, the JPX takes the cake. Sounds extremely beautiful, and you hear the wood itself resonating more. The 12 beats out the XI in my opinion for leads. The basswood makes it's the perfect "inbetween" guitar for both rhythms and leads.

of ALL the Petruccis now, I have to say my favorite is the original JP6 (mystic dream, desert gold I own) for overall feel and playability...and the BFR close second, for the most full/rich tones (I own a Dargie Delight II which is one of the most beautiful guitars I've ever seen...yea yea I know a lot of you hate that bright green).

I wanted to get a set of JPXIs but now after hearing this I kinda want to check out the JP12s and the new JP13s. I have an Ibanez 2550Z and I didn't like the tones I got out of it due to the basswood. But that maple cap, mahogany neck and tone block do enhance the tone a lot. Man I really got to play some of these.
@JonathanAmaralMusic11 жыл бұрын
I feel like the JP12 gets most of it's tone from it's Mahogany Tone Block, the Basswood/Maple Cap serves as more of an accentuation since the pickups are directly mounted into the Mahogany portion of the guitar. The Piezo however manages to capture the guitar's natural tone though.

as much as I would never play one of these in public because I feel it just screams "my playing and songwriting is inspired by john petrucci and dream theater!", I would love to have one of those jpxi's in my studio...that thing sounds great and you can tell just by looking at it that it's probably pretty comfortable to play on...I'll stick with my custom 24 for the time being...I've yet to find a more versatile guitar that I can truly believe will always perform when I need it to

And in that sense, that's why I bought my JP12 out of the bunch. I love the way it feels and the balance in it's tone between everything I do. Cleanwise, the JPXI has the spanky sound but so does the JPX. To be fair, I don't believe you demo'd the 12 with it's push pull knob, but still it is only one additional sound. All incredible guitars but they each do serve a different purpose, I might get a JPXI 7 to compliment my JP12 6 string one day.

Man, I'm honestly kind of appalled Ernie Ball hasn't made a single lefty in the JPX series.There are multiple left-handed BFRs, JP6's and 7's...but not one with this (the best) body style. I understand the lack of lefties in ye' olden days, but now that everything is CNC'd...come on!

Tone is subjective and The Majesty, JP6, JPs old discontinued Ibanez, and the older JP 7 strings have always been the best sounding JP guitars from what I have heard. It's sad to me that not all of them sound super good to me and there was lots made in between those 2 modles releases.
