Sherinian was underrated in DT, he is a killer player, listen to his other work in Planet-X and Sons of Apollo. He uses guitar player approach to keyboard, with adding lots of pitch bend and modulations, like guitarists do (one of his main influences was Van Halen). Interesting that he teamed up with Portnoy again in Sons of Apollo

It's funny that Derek Sherinian was the only member of DT that had short hair unlike the others who all had really long hair but at the same time he brought so much power and muscle to the music, he was without a doubt the most flamboyant keyboard player they ever had and incredibly explosive on stage.

The loose grooviness of the Sherinian days remains my favorite DT sound. Falling Into Infinity may have been a rough experience for the band, but they clearly were living it up on tour.

Back when they made great music more understood by the masses rather then today doing such complicated stuff only a few really understand. Not sure who they are trying to please. As a trained musician it is amazing what they do, but the average person...this is the stuff old dream theater fans enjoy I think more and can relate to much better. I saw them with Derek and he was amazing. Jordan is great as well.

My god! The band looks like they’re actually having fun! Not so fucking trapped to the rhythms and playing too complicated shit! It looks like this might of been the peak in my opinion. I much rather Mike Portnoy on drums and this guy on Keyboard. If i’m not mistaken, and correct me if i am, he’s the guy who played before their current Keyboard player. Don’t get me wrong I love them both but for completely different reasons.
