Sherinian was underrated in DT, he is a killer player, listen to his other work in Planet-X and Sons of Apollo. He uses guitar player approach to keyboard, with adding lots of pitch bend and modulations, like guitarists do (one of his main influences was Van Halen). Interesting that he teamed up with Portnoy again in Sons of Apollo

How do you figure it's "pretty average"? It's a shame LaBrie wasn't 100 percent during the "Awake" touring, because it probably hurt him in future efforts, he's still pretty powerful even in this show.

It's funny that Derek Sherinian was the only member of DT that had short hair unlike the others who all had really long hair but at the same time he brought so much power and muscle to the music, he was without a doubt the most flamboyant keyboard player they ever had and incredibly explosive on stage.

@@yungtwiz Sort of predicted the future, didn't he? Don't get me wrong, I love all eras of Dream Theater, but the criticism is valid. Early DT was more about the song as a whole, while later DT focused on the album as a whole.

Back when they made great music more understood by the masses rather then today doing such complicated stuff only a few really understand. Not sure who they are trying to please. As a trained musician it is amazing what they do, but the average person...this is the stuff old dream theater fans enjoy I think more and can relate to much better. I saw them with Derek and he was amazing. Jordan is great as well.
