Barry Manilow did not write this absolutely sublime song it was Bruce Johnson of The Beach Boys. He originally gave it to David Cassidy who sings it a whole lot better than Barry. It became Manilow's signature song however David did the ULTIMATE VERSION of this wonderful song.
@kevinhanney1979 Жыл бұрын
Brian Johnson from the Beach Boys wrote it. Did Barry write may/any of his best songs? I love him don't get me wrong, but he didn't write them.
@darrenplumpton3551 Жыл бұрын
Bruce Johnson gave "I Write The Songs" to David Cassidy as Bruce was producing David's first album on RCA records (after his first few solo albums and all of The Partridge Family album's were on bell records)called "The Higher They Climb The Harder They Fall." Barry Manilow heard it and recorded his version of it. In the USA they didn't release David's original version but they did release Manilow's cover of it. And it went to Number one. David's version was released as a Double "A" sided single in The United Kingdom. Paired with "Get It Up For Love" the single got to Number Eleven. BTW "Get It Up For Love" got banned in the UK.

It's ironic that he wrote all the songs- except for this one. It's one of my favourites though and he is thought very highly of my family. My mother celebrates his birthday every year with a Barry bbq . I left my 3 year old daughter with her for a couple of hours and she pointed to his picture framed on the wall and asked her who it was - it was no surprise that she was able to recognise and say his full name. 3 years later she had her 1st ticket to go see him in concert but covid has delayed that. Im happy we share the love of him in our family x

@@2004mojo IMO DAVID CASSIDY's original version is soooooooooh much better. David had a chart hit with this in 1975 when the composer of this classic (Bruce Johnson of The Beach Boys) presented it to David for his "The Higher They Climb The Harder They Fall" album on RCA. David recorded it and in doing so recorded The ULTIMATE VERSION.

You cry?? I laugh. Not derisively. It's just so pompous. It's more pompous than Queen's "We are the champions, my friend" which also makes me laugh. I adapted Manilow's lyrics to suit my existence as a software programmer, and it's also funny, "I write the code that lets you drop and drag, I write the code that splatters blood when you frag,... etc."

Mr. Manilow has a great big large mind. I am thankful for him from a young man development point. Helped many of us being young to love music back in the day. All of us men and women. Your songs interwebs us somehow. Just respect each other please. Be civil. Thank you.
