The awesome 2 “stringed” instruments are called Morin Khuur (Horse Head Fiddle), the “strings” are actually hair from the tail of a horse, the “Male” (thicker) “string” has 150 hairs, and the “Female” (thinner) “string” has 130 hairs. Traditionally to bind the instrument to the player (and vice versa), the hairs MUST come from the player’s own horse. The bow is held in the German style grip as well, and mostly the Morin Khuur is played while sitting, the HU’s are highly customized and have attachments to allow them to play the Morin Khuur while standing.

Yes, those are pictures of them with their mothers. The Lzzy Hale collaboration was released on Mothers Day in the US. The Mongolian lyrics are taken from a 900-year old Mongolian poem by a Mongolian warrior who had to leave home without saying goodbye to his wife. I love the lyrics Lzzy wrote, and her vocal blends so well with their song. Jaya (the band member standing next to Lzzy) taught her a little throat singing, which she uses in the video. It takes years of practice to master. This is the best of the collaborations, in my opinion. I do love both versions of the song. The original with just the Mongolian lyrics is on their first album. Unfortunately there is no video for that version.

That instrument is called a Horse Head Fiddle. (One of the things I like about The Hu is that they play traditional instruments)

They did a cover of Metallica's Sad but True in Mongolian and their style. Even if you can't understand the lyrics, the video speaks volumes.

Great reaction. Every time I see this video, I am awed all over again by the skill of whoever engineered the video, they are so good that I couldn't tell that Lzzy and Hu recorded their parts separately, it really looks like she is right there with the men. Hu is wonderful, they covered Nothing Else Matters and it is phenomenal.

Ahhhh so glad you found the Hu Band they are awesome. I love the fact that they roam over the Mongolian steps on Harleys, a beautiful fusion of Biker, Metal Rock and Traditional Mongolian Instrumental and throat singing - like a Biker Gang with good Morals lol. The Imagery is astonishing I promise you you have to check them out some more they are crazy Good. as ever a great Reaction. Edit: the song I was referring to is Wolf Totem. I guarantee you will Love it.

random note - don't try throat singing without training unless you enjoy destroying your vocal chords :) That being said The Hu are ... simply amazing throw in Lzzie's vocals and it's gonna be a win :) And just because I just wandered in from listening to them, you might check out Dirty Loops when you get some spare time, worth it just for the bass but they're all quite good

I love The Hu, I prefer the original version of their songs though. I feel they had to do these collab versions to break into the north american market (which tends to not like music in foreign languages as much) but honestly I always listen to their original all Mongolian versions. Saw them live as covid restrictions were lifting and it was a really good show. They really showcase their native instraments and the primary members of the band are all claasically trained musicians in Mongolia. Id definitly suggest checking out the original to this song and I still dont have the cash app installed (and am kinda poor for the next few months anyway lol) but would highly recommend Shireg Shireg, Yuve Yuve Yu or Chengis Kahn from their first album (Wolf totem is usually the one reactors react to but imo its not the most interesting song on that album, its got a cool hook though so thats usually why people like it I think)

Thanks so much for watching and the thoughtful comment. I can totally understand what you mean about the originals. @@musikbyjh well listening to the original version of the song of woman might be safe :) seeing as youve already heard it to some extent. But most reactors do The wolf totem and maybe Yuve Yuve Yu so you might be safe listening to some of the other songs (though Shireg Shireg and Chengis Khan are my personal favorites) Eta: if you do do The great Chenngis Kahn, little fun fact, the music video uses scenes from a movie made in Mongolia about Chengis Khan in like the 90s or early 2000s and one of the band members was actually an actor in that movie (he was just a boy at the time)
