My grandfather turned 99 last week. He's worn a F-91W for almost three and a half decades. He claims it's the same watch. We have doubts, but It was time for an upgrade in any event so for his birthday we gave him an A18WG, which is the gold(tone) version. He's not too keen about the bracelet clasp, but he's vowed to outlive the battery.

I work in construction so no fancy watches everyday for me. The sub $100 is king, I love my low end Casios, Seikos & Timex. I bought them thinking they're affordable to replace if I break it, but so far they're all holding up great ❤️

Okay, I hate the brand, but the Invicta Pro Diver can’t be overlooked. It’s the only invicta that doesn’t look absolutely bonkers and for a mechanical diver that has all the features you want on a dive watch, and for under $100, it can’t be beat!

Andrew, I have the yellow Bluetooth Casioak. For people like me who are visually disabled the connectivity is a Godsend, being g able to adjust or change settings on your phone where I can see what needs to be changed rather than fiddling with something I can't see. At last I can own a G-Shock, I wish they would make a black one with white luminous indices and a positive display with Bluetooth. I think they'd shift tons of them. Keep up the great work mate.

Casio G-Shock DW-5600. The bog standard G-shock...it has some flaws which I really dislike (recessed A button) and some which were fixed on improved versions of the "Square", but when you hold it, it's just the watch that can stand its ground against abuse, honoured with philosophy which its originator, the DW-5000C pioneered: Being durable and cheap. And it manages to still look good. Not many 1980's designs managed that.

The Seiko 5 SKNX79 is a beautiful watch. They are getting hard to find. There are other Seiko 5's out there, new and vintage, that are just as good as the SKNX79. For a cheap watch, I like the ALBA AEFD range. Hardlex crystal, day-date, solar powered, and 100m water resistance. The AEFD range has dress watches, field watches, and steel bracelet models. Alba is Seiko's value brand. I've found the watches online, priced from $50 -$70.

I know a few watch makers and opinions about them vary. But in my opinion, Vostoks piss off the snobs and delight the humble. A fabulous watch, in my view!

Vostok Amphibia (not terribly popular right now for obvious reasons) but a brand with heritage big watch collectors fan base, and before the recent conflict, an automatic obvious watch on this list at around $100 (Komandirski field watch for well under $100).

Right in here with this lot is the venerable Timex Ironman Triathlon. It’s got functionality for days with inimitable styling to boot, all at a wallet-friendly price point that makes it a no-brainer addition to your stable. It’s perfect for those times when you need a beater that can handle anything you throw at it. Your higher-end pieces may never show it, but in an anthropomorphic kind of way, they’d have respect for the Ironman, giving it props for being just as much of an icon while looking none the worse and perhaps even all the better for having a bit of wear to show for it.

The GA2100 gets all the love, but there is never any mention of the Casio Edifice EFR-S108D, which I think is better if you’re after that octagon (“AP”) caseshape. I own both, but because of the Edifice, I barely ever wear the G-shock. Also, I just got back from holiday, took the EFR-S108D snorkling every single day and it’s still in perfect shape! I guess I just prefer the metal over rubber, finishing is also great for €95.

Casio G-Shock Gw M5610-U no question asked.. for 5 or 10 bucks up from 100 dollars u get tough solar, multiband 6 and the iconic SQUARE design that screams 80s. I can't take it off my wrist and all my more expensive watches just sit in the box.

I have two suggestions, the seiko SNKL41 and the casio MTP 1370. The SNKL41 has a sunburst dial, dauphine hands and applied indices and the fact that its usually cheaper and probably much more readily available than the SNXS79. When I saw the MTP 1370 I immediately knew that I had to get that watch for my friend who was looking to get himself a watch but didn’t know what to get. Black dial, baton style hands, applied indices and a black leather strap, all of which I figured would suit his overall style and vibe.

Casio F-105W. It's better than the F-91W in every aspect except the colour options. Well, those aspects are: - illuminator (electroluminescent back light) for the entire display as opposed to a weak diode in the corner - display is slightly rearranged for better visual balance - display markings are monochrome, making them less visually disrupting - the lugs are not hidden, giving the strap more movement options - it can be bought for the same, or even lower price

The CasiOak with Bluetooth also gets solar power. And the Bluetooth syncs with your phone instead of atomic time keeping. And you can set the alarms and timezones and such so much easier from your phone. So it's a worthwhile upgrade to me.

I can certainly agree with the suggested option on this list. I have on my wrist today my F-91W that is currently likely my most worn watch in the collection these days. It's easy to read, accurate and comfortable to wear even though the backlight is a tired glow worm in a sweet wrapper it's enough. I also have the Seiko that I swapped the bracelet for a strap on day two and that looks a lot more expensive than the price that I paid some years ago, it gets a little wrist time these days as like my other Seiko 5's the hands aren't aligned. That didn't bother me so much back then when the outlay was £70 ish but it bothers me more now.

SEIKO SCDP030, made in Japan. Only 33 mm, mans, unisex quartz watch. Sapphire, goldish, 50 meters water resistant and only 6mm thickness. At the beginning last century watch was small. Today some of them still. Unnoticeable beauty. Did not find anything like this.

Timex Weekender. I might give a pass to its successor, the Standard. The basic version is cheap and cheerful, with a trick up its sleeve - Indiglo electroluminescent back light! The Standard it a hair pricier, but their special Snoopy editions are playful. Add a onion crown. Thc chronograph version is busy, but the right kind of busy. I have one myself and it's one of my most complimented watches, despite only being chrome-plated brass. The Standard chrono is even busier. It earned my distaste with the tachymetric scale, bigger size and useless lume pips, but they're still charming enough. That onion crown too.

The Q reissue is a nice watch but I ended up selling it pretty quickly. The bezel does not have a ratchet and just loosely rotates. The dial sticks out and it got scratched really easily. The bracelet was also a bit of a hair puller. With all that aside, it would be fine to wear daily if you work in an office or something

I was with you but as G-Shock they look right big and as they are so light, very comfortable to wear. Definitely go give it a wear, I think you will be surprised. I have one B2100 and B5600 both being Bluetooth are now my exclusive travel watches as they pair with your phone and change time as needed same as your phone. Great water resistance and not likely going to see you being mugged for it.

The F-91W is just not big enough for my wrist. Thus, the A-168 for just a couple bucks more. Oh, and for heading for the beach or a bike ride or even some yard work, why not a $50 G-Shock .DW-5600E-1V. And you can't mention Casio and cool without bringing up the Duro. It's the one I keep in my backpack for the inevitable Florida afternoon thunderstorms. Then there's pretty much my favorite Casio, the MTD-4500, which has to be the most affordable slide rule bezel chrono on the market. It makes a great placeholder while your Navitimer is getting service. I can't read the tiny numbers on the bezel, but who cares! It looks cool! :D Alas, though, I never could bond with the 4-o-clock stem on the Seiko 5s.
