Great video! I’ve worn G-Shock watches since about 1995. My first ever purchase was a DW-6600 in Okinawa while in the Marines. It was also the watch on my wrist on 9/11 (I am a survivor) absolutely the toughest watches on the planet. Onward and upwards!

I've never liked the esthetics of the G shock ever since I first saw them I thought they looked cheap like something you would find in a cracker jacks box. Today they are a more sophisticated well made watch but they still retain that toyish look but I get it many do like them personally I am more of a Seiko or Citizen diver type watch

Good video. Bought a G-Shock at Army Post Exchange way back in mid-1990. I remember it only cost $20 and no tax (PX's don't collect tax). At the same time, a Lieutenant Colonel was buying an Omega Speedmaster for $2,500 (if I remember that correctly). He looked at my purchase and said, "Good watch. I've got one myself." And he was right. That watch survived two combat tours and being struck by a bowling ball. Best watch I own.

I love this G Shock Model. I have had mine since 2011, and it is still going strong after 3 batteries and one strap replacement. It's been treated how G Shocks are meant to be treated. I absolutely adore this amazing timepiece. I've had more than 1 Timex watch not last me half that amount of time to my Casios. I love Casio for the quality to price comparison. They are unmatched! When I need a watch when I know a job is going to get rough I always reach for a Casio, plain and simple.

Just an FYI: This may shock you, but G-Shock was once seen as a bad omen by some. As a veteran from the eighties, when G-Shock was still a new thing, I can tell you that many Army people saw a G-Shock as a "wannabe" accessory. When we looked at the watch stand in the PX, some discussions started. The thought was, particularly amongst airborne troops and pilots, that if you needed a G-Shock that was tougher than any human body possibly could be, you were probably clumsy and bad at what you were doing, and if you managed to break a normal Casio, you were dead anyway! The plain and simple Casio digitals were the go-to watch for most of my buddies at the time, believe it or not! Memories are short in general, so you may not find this opinion anymore, but it was there once.

I bought that particular G shock on close out at Wallmart for 19 dollars. I wear it at my job and have beaten the hell out of it. The resin case is a little beat up but the watch has never failed me. I also love the functionality. It is nice to have the timer or chronograph running while the time remains displayed up top.

Possibly the most entertaining intro yet, and there have been some great ones! I thought that Casio had discontinued the Mudman a few years ago, but then I saw the stealth version at a shopping mall during the holidays, and now this. I'm still hoping they bring back a basic black, non-special edition DW-6600 but I most likely will be adding this to the collection soon...

This falls perfectly in-line with my recent experience with the DW-290. I wasn't expecting how much I'd come to appreciate its toughness and functionality (coming from the garmin world as an endurance athlete). I suppose I'll explore the mudmaster as a simple level-up when the times comes. Also wanted to say thank you for all of your videos. I started watching before the holidays and haven't stopped - part of my morning coffee nowadays! Fantastic stuff - wishing you good health & happiness in the new year my friend.

Brilliant!! This G Shock is one model in my collection that i keep coming back to. I got mine over 10 years ago and have used it during many outdoor endeavors from rock climbing to white water kayaking and its incredibly durable. The one feature that stands out the most for me is its flash alert with the electro luminous back light. My other G Shocks have a flash alert feature but with either a white backlight or a pink backlight. The blue backlight in the 9000 is pleasing to the eye in dim or no light conditions. I just replaced my battery for the 3rd time in all these years and it performs like it did 10 years ago. This has to be my favorite G Shock in my collection. Thank you for making such a fantastic video highlighting this model!

I have a GW 200 Frogman that I got in 2002 and that has spent over a week at the bottom of the ocean and found its way back to me through a person I’d met several years earlier on the other side of the world (lost the watch diving in Honduras, was found by an instructor I’d met several years prior in Thailand and she returned it to me). G Shocks really are the toughest watches in the world. Also, I once asked an ex Navy Seal acquaintance what they wore in the teams, and he replied “whatever we wanted. Pretty much everybody wears a G Shock.”

This has been on my wish list for a long time since it came out for its long duration timer and mud-resist functions. But didn’t keep long in possession for its infamous hard buttons and not comfortable wear. In the same line of master of G series in that era, I fall in love with the lesser known gulfman, G9100 and solar version GW9110. It has similar size with full titanium metal parts including screws, give moon and tide data. The non solar G9100 also has the option for -5s countdown before starting the timer; optional one-time or repeat countdown timer; lesser alarms (3) but it can be set as daily, monthly, a date of every month or specific date & month to goes off, quirky. The other recently older G-Shock I fell in love with, is the GD350. Best easy to read digital non-MIP screen, vibration modes, quick access countdown timer and though come in larger, could be close to ‘MI ‘ watch yet comfortable to wear. Cool to see 100 world city names in full display. Hope you can check those out too. Thanks for another cool videos.

I've had a G9000 Mudman for a few years and can confirm JaysandKays' offers strap adapters for it. I find it pushes the lug-to-lug (60mm) too wide though. Ps - the coincidence that this video came out at the beginning of this year's Dakar Rally, where it was used originally by the Toyota Land Cruiser factory team, is too good not to mention. Cheers!

My GW-9400 Rangeman was my daily duty watch for most of my 23yrs as a First Responder. It was subjected to some extraordinary abuse, and held up like an absolute champ through all of it. From bodily fluids to Hazmat responses, hundreds of car extrications - being pranged off of twisted autobody frames over and over again, and a fair few treks through some terrain where we would have been good and lost without the compass feature. I can't count the number of times I used it for timing medical interventions using both the timer and stopwatch. If that watch could talk it'd have some stories to tell. The hype around G-Shocks is very, very real.

I've own several G-Shocks from the classic square DW-5600 to Mudmaster GWG-1000, but the G9000 has a special place in my heart. Still wear it occasionally! I love it when G-Shocks have positive normal (non-dot matrix) displays with different markers that move around even in normal time-keeping. Makes it sooo much more interesting and bedazzling to look at, it's magical! Just wish it had a full-metal case with screw back, standard lugs or at least standard spring bars, and that it was tough solar! Great video and looking good TGV! Have a great start of the new year! Hello TGV, I hope that your holiday break went well! I hope that this year does not go like your background suggests! In this video to be honest I was more interested in the weapons and chemical suit / background than the watch itself! lol! Maybe?! Out of interest was that a real shotgun and 1911 handgun you had? I’m just curious if it is since I’m highly into firearms. Although the shotgun looked plasticky and the handgun looked more like an airgun based on the markings, but I could be very mistaken. I love how you insert the magazine into the handgun and pump the shotgun for effect! The watch is a very interesting and practical for sure and will be taking all of the wrist time if we will go into the apocalypse environment. Hopefully not in the near future!! I hope that your health recovers quickly! Unfortunately! My family and I got sick with Covid again during the holiday break but at least we are mostly recovered! Red is actually the first color of the spectrum to disappear as a diver descends, usually around 20 ft. This is actually a boon for the Spearfishing crowd who do not want to draw attention to themselves when approaching their quarry - which more often than not are red colorized themselves for camouflage reasons. Love the review, thanks!

Dear TGV may I comment your statement about the red colour of the buttons underwater ? Actually the red colour is on of the first to disappear because these wavelength are absorbed by water from the first meters, that’s why orange and yellow are a little bit better. Great video

I've had a G9300-1 Mudman as one of my 2 work watches since 2013, it's never missed a beat wity daily use in the mechanics shop environment. Re; all the gadgets on the new Mudmasters (like GWG-B1000) - only features the G9000 is really missing are tough solar and mb6 time adjustment, which the Japanese market gw9300 and the hugely popular gw9400 rangeman offer. All the other stuff are just gadgets. I do like the super illuminator led light on the gw9400 but EL works great.

You need to work on your movie poster choices.. I would recommend that rather than choose from movie popularity you choose from pictographic attractiveness, now this may vary drastically depending on the movie topic but in some cases that would mean that there would be a bit of a complexity to the poster. So in my case I would be looking for a kind of beauty or some kind of a descriptive complexity / Take the movie poster for the great movie Chinatown (1974) The poster is fairly simple yet it presents a clear artistic style to it while picturing the movie jonra.. Cheers

Interesting comment. I tend to just choose them on rather a basic premise on the meaning (the movie that is) and the significance they have in my life. Many are from special times, places, or experiences with loved ones, some just because of family and friends involved in them and therefore are special. Sometimes a movie can represent a whole era, season or special time, so when I look at them I remember those moments, might sound a bit strange, but hey it works for me. I certainly will consider you way of looking at them, I love the Chinatown poster btw, great movie. Thank you, Best regards, TGV

Thank you for calling G-Shocks field watches! The field watches styled after older WW2, etc. models are great, but let's be honest, they, like many other watches, are novelties before they are field/tool watches. I'm new to watch collecting and certainly love the look of the classic field watch. But I wouldn't wear one into the woods, on a hike, in a downpour, in the snow, kayaking, or on a mtn bike ride. A G-Shock, on the other hand, can do all of those things easily with little to no risk of damage and certainly no heartbreak if it is.

It's a surprise to see this watch on the channel, this G-Shock is universal in Korea. It is sold in the army PX, and due to mandatory military service, almost every man has the watch including myself. Nice review!

What do you do after you got your grail watch? I didn't know when I got it that the Tudor Ranger I bought in January 2023 would become my grail watch, but it is. No other watch can ever do it for me like my Ranger. However, I'm still alive and I still love watches. It turns out that what I did next was buy a G-Shock, thanks to this video! I had never paid much attention to G-Shock before, but this video sparked my interest. I did some research of various models, picked one: GGB100-1A9, then waited a couple of weeks to avoid making an impulse purchase that I might end up regretting. After two weeks, I still wanted it, found one at a discount price from an official dealer and was lucky enough to be able to afford it, so I pulled the trigger. I'm now a happy G-Shock owner. For me, a new watch seems to scratch the itch for about a year, so January 2025, I'll probably be in for something else. It will be an Oris Big Crown. I really like those.

That 5 sec countdown on stopwatch nr 1 is a quite nice feature to have. I believe they made it like that so it is possible to switch over to stopwatch nr 2 and start them at the exact same time.

It's my favorite gshock watch. I had the G9000-3 (dark green) with me for a decade now and still wear it as my everyday beater. I think I've only corrected it's settings once or twice since I have yet to change its batteries all this time 😅.

Another great video TGV, I haven’t watched for a while been catching up on your videos……..I’ve already bought a new watch. I am needing a GShock this might tick that box. Thank you once again. Forgotten how much I love this channel.

Great video TGV. I was recently considering at G shock, but because I don’t need or enjoy all the buttons and functions, I chose the Marathon Sea Quartz 30. With Day, Date and 300M water resistance, it’s a great choice. That it was Magnum PI’s watch for the first 3 seasons, it also has a nice back story

"Holy Schnikes!" No frickin' way! I just TODAY 'caved in' and bought a G900-1v on sale for $79 from Eli Adams Jewelers after researching it out of sheer curiosity and finding out about its alleged chemical resistance! It's the perfect Household chores or "work around the Car" and car wash-detailing watch, me thinks. Are you doing this to me on purpose just to make me Happy or something!? Unreal timing Sir TGV, unreal. Plus, i just ordered Jays and Kays Adapters for the Requirement of a NATO strap for such an Intrepid but Splendid beauty such as this. I suppose I'll be losing sleep again over obsessing over what NATO color design this time, again. Carry on then...and Thank YOU.

Ref. Watcheschecked- “these conditions, you won’t survive but your watch will.” Sounds to me like the poor man’s Patek. I’m just holding it for the next generation but for real! Cheers

This G9000 was worn by Antony Starr throughout the entire series of Banshee when he played Lucas Hood. One of the best series ever made and makes this watch even more special!

I got a 9010 as a college graduation present for myself. I wore that thing out. Being solar, the module still works so I just got a new case and straps for it. You wouldn't know it's over a decade old.

Hi TGV, i had a interesting idea. How about a video comparing the servicing experience by several brands. (Think brands like Seiko, Hamilton, Tudor or Nomos) I think it could be really cool to see the different kind of experiences and price points. If you ever end up making a video on a topic like this, make sure to do it all anonimous, as brands tend to give social media influencers a favorable treatment.
