This video reminds me the time I went to Japan with my sister (something like 10 years ago). I only knew a few japanese words, mostly salutations, I could barely read kanas and we had no guide or whatsoever. But my sister has planned everything and many signs had english translations so we didn’t get lost (most of the time). Every japanese people we met were very kind and willing to help, wether they could speak english or not. It’s a very nice memory. I réalité want to go back when I can speak and read japanese.

Several years ago my son was flying to the Philippines and had to stop over in Tokyo. The people at the airline counter spoke perfect English and were very nice to him. In fact, he said they were nicer to him than the people in Los Angeles on his return trip. I see that there are a lot of English words that have been adopted and "Japanized".

Tip for first time travelers in Japan : immigration staff will maybe be the first Japanese people you interact with and you will surely go to them happy with a big smile and they will just don’t care about you or shout « STEP BACK » because you are too close to your relatives or friends during passport control but don’t let that influence your mood, you made it to Japan and will have lots of beautiful encounters so enjoy 🫶🏽
