That you very much, good sir! We found out one of our spigot had a nasty leak, and after a long trip to the hardware store, 15 dollars in parts and a little time. It is as good as new! Thanks to this tutorial, we were able to save money and our water! In texas, there are water restrictions, so needed to fix that leak!

I work for a plumbing/hvac company in sherman tx. a good tip is to use a map gas torch and add a little heat to the sil-cock before you try to twist it off. the brass will expand and let go easier. USUALLY no backup is needed that way.

Thank you for the Video , I had to replace my leaky faucet just outside my garage door as well ...after removing a small section of drywall it turned out my 1/2 inch copper pipe was secured to the siding with metal brackets , so it made the job even easier but I bought channel lock pliers just incase I needed them for the job .. my outdoor faucet was just over 41 years old and had the same rubber washer inside from when it was new but I couldn't get the screw out that was holding the washer , so I opted to replace the faucet instead ... it only took 15 or 20 minutes ... thanks again ...

How did you know it was threaded on? If it was soldered on then, you would have bent and cracked the copper and you would have to replace the backside. I made that mistake cause it was soldered on, and had to open up the drywall on the inside of the house and replumb it. Wasn't too bad to replumb but would have had to be replumbed regardless for the new spigot to be added on.

It is so hard I wish that is was standard to put a winged elbow in there that fastened to a stud. That way you would know that your not going to twist pipe when taking this out. Hopefully you can just replace the washer and call is good.

Me too Britt. I did not know if my backup wrench would work or not. It totally freezes here. There should be a frost free hose bib in there, but you could tell this was done long ago. They may at some point change it, but for the moment they just wanted the leak stopped.

@@ThatFixItGuy that's so interesting because even if they had a sillcock, the waterline goes into the garage which in theory is not in the heat zone. Garages could get below freezing and blow the entire line.

I would use type A pex. Depending on your soil it may have to be sleeved. I know in our area a couple of cities want it sleeved. I spoke with a friend of mine that is in Texas and he said for all his inground water he runs viega fosta pipe. This is going to be long lasting.

I have a vacuum breaker on my spigot, but when I hook up a new soaker hose for my garden, it appears to leak out of the threaded seal. I tried plumber's tape and it still leaks. Found your video bc I thought I needed to replace the whole thing and remove the VB to a simple quarter turn ball-valve spigot but you actually suggested having the VB. Admittedly, it probably is an older VB and spigot. Any suggestions?

Interesting. Sound like it could have froze at some point. Is it screwed in to the pipe inside the wall? Maybe it is not screwed in good. When you add the hose and nozzle it creates back pressure. I’m interested to see what you find.

I need to do this on two of my spigots. But they come through the brick wall and foundation and I have no access whatsoever to the supply pipe. Are they safe being that they’re in there? And what about the steady drip while you were putting on the tape and thread sealant? Is that indicative of a leak further up toward the cutoff?
@ThatFixItGuy
@ThatFixItGuy 3 жыл бұрын
Having no access behind to hold the pipe is always scary. You are taking a chance that the pipe is secure and will not twist or break. The water was still coming out while I was putting tape on because I had not drained the whole house down. I figured I was outside and did not need all the water drained out. Can you replace the washers in your bibs for the repair?
