Notes: 1. Defensive spinning elbow: throw one when the opponent rushes in with boxing combination, and you're in trouble, to stop your opponent's advancement. 2. Muaythai hop: lift the lead leg and push off the back leg, and slide across the floor to cover large distance. Slide into a front teep or a jab to setup combos from long range. 3. Finishing all offensive moves with a defensive front kick to remain defensively sound after throwing a combo. 4. Muaythai side kick: a hybrid of traditional muaythai front kick + karate sidekick. Maximize range + power. 5. Double/triple up kicks: throw multiple kicks at different levels/angles to keep the opponent guessing at all times.

I use the Thai hop a ton and I've found out a few things the hard way so hopefully yall won't have to. 1.) You need to set it up first by landing or throwing teeps, preferably jumping teeps since that's what it most closely resembles. 2.) Feint first to see how they will react 3.) Keep your hands up on entry 4.) The outside foot sweep, rear round knee (entering from a 45 degree angle or even flatter), and 1-2-3 leg kick or 1-2 knee are the easiest to land off the hop. 5.) Lastly, if they start to react by jumping back it usually puts them in perfect range for your switch or power roundhouse, whichever you prefer. It needs to be pretty quick though after landing the hop so don't take a beat.

Good job man. I work some big guys around you weight and with them I had them Focus on leg training and jump rope and it really helped them out. Explosive squats no weight helped a lot. You don’t have to jump just raise up on your toes. I am a big guy myself I use to be 285lbs now I’m 223lbs. But my ability to move has been good because I always focus on leg strength
@Pettski9510 ай бұрын
Thanks! Right now im at 295lbs, 230lbs is my goal thats when im lean! I tried jump rope/running, but im not able to for a long time because my tibitalis muscle is getting really fatigued, so i started doing raises with it. I had a kicking injury where i ruptured my achilles partially, but after that did a ton of calf raises, right now i can do ass to grass squats while on toes so thats cool. Im able to do explosive squats witha round 70kg, and normal squats with around 120kg, so my legs are getting stronger! Main weakness right now is very weak neck, and issues with high kicks because i cant extend my leg above hip height controllably, i can lift my knee up paralell to stomach almost tho. So far im 34kg down! I think its my IT band holding me back for high kicks.@@Lionheart_Kickboxing

A minor piece if advice for the thai hop: get your opponent to first respect your teep. Then when you do the hop, show them the bottom of your foot when you're feinting. That makes the person react much more, that minor difference will bait them much more into trying to block, parry, or catch your fake teep.

My coach is a Lumpinee champion and he spent 3 weeks teaching us thai hop variations, they are so useful for closing the distance
@paulpelle304610 ай бұрын
The Thai hop is so amazing for closing distance in a safe way. Really easy to access it from a feinted teep, and even extend the range at the end with a superman, even feinting the superman 💯🙏

The thai side kick is how my coach taught me to throw my teep as a southpaw, in an open stance. It's less likely to slide off of the hip of an orthodox opponent.

So many amazing techniques from Muay Thai to implement into my arsenal Gabriel, I had the first, and the second one in my arsenal, as well as the Thai side kick, but the rest of these, like the Thai hop into a Thai side kick, were pretty new to me, thank you so much, for securing us, with these amazing videos Gabriel!

Your hybrid front-side kick is something I use but in a bit of a different way and it works well. I use it as a fake to side kick the liver. I bring up my leg, bent as if about to teep then pause for opponent to bing their knee up or arm down for defence and when they move back down their leg or up their arm I twist on my back foot and without puting my front leg back down I twist into a sidekick and extend my leg out for the cick, trying to drive my heel into the liver area. Fake teep, finish side kick without putting leg down. I stand southpaw.

In boxing look up Ricardo Lopez and see how he utilised the hop. When taking the step with lead leg just dont land the foot and push of back leg. Yiu dont need to lift very high at all.

Hi gabriel. Quick question. Whats ur opinion on Dracula guard where ur rear arm is horizontal across ur face to block with ur elbow and the lead arm is extended out. Looks like it could be effective for setting up elbow or knee counters and to hurt their hands hitting ur guard

Why not throw a retreating lead leg roundhouse after a power kick? It's mechanically identical to the lead hook and just like the lead hook in boxing, you can use it exactly like a retreating jab as a defensive weapon to cover your exit. I even use, what we call a c step sometimes to exit to the side instead of straight back. You just do very slight hop and either replace the front foot with your back or your back foot with front to circle to either side. If you do a c step right after the lead leg roundhouse, you get a split second to throw another quick strike to start your combination allowing you to blend offense into defense seamlessly like a boxer. You can even throw a power lead roundhouse the same way you throw a hook after doing a d'amato shift like Tyson. I'm not a fighter but as a hobbyist, these moves are foundational to me purely because of how cool and dynamic looking these combination of moves are. It allows you to thread your offense into defense and makes training so fun and dynmaic.
@juhel553110 ай бұрын
@RancorousSea i boxed for the better part of a decade. I suck at a lead leg roundhouse(LLR) but when I throw it well for the first 10 or so times, I can feel how it works and it's just a lead hook with your leg. The urge to throw the lead leg while moving forward which is opposite to how it develops power. The feeling of weakness on the strike making you want to muscle it and turn the strike into a push. All of it screams lead hook. The major difference is the range and how much more committal the LLR is and how much bigger the gain and loss in initiative and damage is plus it has more range to the body. You can throw the lead hook when you're out of range to bait a move you can counter and a novice will bite and pay for it. If you throw a LLR out of range, even a novice will make you pay for it.

That thumbnail. Anyone who thinks Tawanchai is not on something is delusional. I am not trying to take away from his skill which is very high especially for his age, and I am sure he is a very nice guy like most Thais. BUT. I've watched him train and workout, there is no way in hell he is getting built like that with such a lightweight workout. Also his musculature doesn't match his skeletal structure, and all the prime areas that are developed by gear are prominent such his neck, shoulders etc which have the highest amount of androgen receptors. He is so young but more built than Buakaw ever was. Then there are his Asian genetics, is build is not really possible for Asians naturally without heavy workouts. I challenge you to find me a nug Muay from the past that looks anything like him. His skill is undeniable, but people should be realistic about his power, and not lie to themselves because they want to believe he is 100% natty. He can't be both a nug Muay and a body builder at the same time.
