This is absolutely incredible. Ive seen many guitarists try to cover this song, and Eddie is much like Jimi, and you really can't recreate their work. You can only interpret it with the right feeling, tone, and emotion. Michael does that in spades.

This song was written by two guys tripping lsd together. We wouldnt have thissong w.o lsd. Just like if null gate n Steve jobs disnt take lsd we wouldnt have internet. Those facial expressions come from the notes hitting the soul. Reminds me of Carlos Santana. This is one of the greatest songs I've ever or will ever hear. It, at one point, took everything out of me, than gave me everything I needed at the time very few songs can bring you down and pick you up. It's like magic.

The reason people can't nail this song is because you can't recreate the emotion Hazel felt at that moment he played it , yoi nailed it and you made your own version. This is fantastic!! There have been many excellent covers of Maggot Brain. My personal view tho is Who Conceived It ?? There are many artists today who could probably paint the Mona Lisa better than the original...But, could they Conceive it? Could they reach down in their soul and CREATE it?? Therefore, IMHO, Eddie Hazel' s original piece is the GREATEST.

I was just surfing through the various live versions of the various Clinton/Funkadelic versions over the years and had just commented to myself on how none of them could touch the original.
