Great video, thank you for posting. This is the same as my control valve on my 1963 Galaxie 500. Successfully rebuilt thanks to your video.

A very in depth video. Good job. I'm attempting to rebuild a control valve from a 68 mustang. I'm with you till punching out the stop pin with a punch. I don't see a stop pin. I didn't buy the mustang new. So I'm not sure if the power steering was added with after market parts. Any ideas?

Thank you for the video. We just rebuilt our Control Valve and unfortunately still have a serious fluid leak at the ball stud area. I think that we may have had new spool valve bushings/seals that were old (from sitting on the shelf for years?) and more stiff and rigid than they should be. I suspect that may be problem. It appeared that your installation of these end seals was relatively smooth and easy - it was very difficult with our new seals as they were rather rigid. Should they be very flexible? Like an o-ring? Or was your installation of these seals more difficult than it appeared? Thanks again for your help - T

I went at it again. Here is my info - at 15:25-15:30 when inserting the inner seal it is not as easy as it looks. What worked for me was to seat the outside lip of the seal in the housing; then holding the outer rim in place, press inward on the center of the seal for the inside ring of the seal to expand. With you other fingers, press the spool valve from the other side of the control valve into the inner ring of the seal. This makes it much easier to get on smoothly. Then place the white plastic ring into the seal. Following the inner seal - work on the outer seal - that is much easier.

@@zehnzyl and now how's your leak.?

I hope you found the source of your leak. After my first rebuild, mine was dry for few months and then developed a steady leak out of the ball stud area. I had very heavy pitting on both small ends of the large spool valve which the new rubber seal couldn't effectively seal against. I cleaned up both ends of the spool valve and put it back together and my leak has been solved.
